Submission to "higher powers" isn't actually submitting to a higher power. It's submitting to your own distorted fears of matters you don't properly understand.
You already possess what you need to deal with the world you inhabit. Running away from that world won't get you something better.
Mass media confuses your perspective and disassociates your sense of self, and your perceptions of how you are connected with the world you actually inhabit.
The only way to accurately convey the truth of reality would be with a 1:1 scale representation of the entire universe. What you witness through print and screen and pageant are distortions if you mistake them for representing reality.
Imagine being so lost in your own metaphors you spend your time tilting at windmills instead of living yourself.
That's quite literally the point of this whole ordeal. Keep your chin up and keep walking forwards. You are not alone.
People imagine belonging to groups and organizations larger than themselves in order to understand how to associate with the greater world. This isn't a flaw, though as a result of our limited perspective nobody ever gets it exactly right. Eventually, as our understanding of the world which we inhabit evolves, the organizations we previously subscribed to can no longer fulfill their purpose and new understandings must develop to replace them.
It is a very difficult time to be alive, but we are terribly lucky to bear witness to these events.
It will get better eventually. Just hold on.
