DEVELOPING: Masked Couple Climbs the Empire State Building, Unfurl Banner… Marriage Proposal?
A masked couple climbed the Empire State Building’s spire and unfurled a banner.
The banner read: “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”
The man appeared to propose marriage to the woman at the top of the Empire State Building.
The couple was taken into custody, according to WABC.
Two masked people climbed on top of the Empire State Building Wednesday afternoon holding a banner reading “when the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”
Roughly 40 police officers remain in front of the building. Others are directing traffic around the building.
The entrance on Fifth Ave., between West 33rd and 34th streets, is blocked off.
Pedestrians were seen gathering on every corner surrounding the building watching the situation unfold.
Counting the spire and antenna, the skyscraper stands 1,454 feet tall.
It is currently the fourth-tallest building in New York City, the sixth-tallest in the U.S., and the 43rd tallest tower in the world.

Something odd with this video. The buildings in the background are moving consistent with the helo circling. Yet the banner always seems to be facing the camera.
