the home mortgage was a brillient thing: the theives who stole all the houses in the 1930s didn't have to pay the taxes on them and still owned them all through mortgages!
AND they got the government to give them free money with the 'interest deduction'.
you have to be paying interest to get that deduction.
they government should have, instead, provided a reverse deduction: if you DID NOT owe interest you got a deduction. That would have contributed to the payoff of home mortgages.
