Colonel Paris D. Davis is a retired United States Army officer and Medal of Honor recipient who served in the Vietnam War. Born on May 13, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was commissioned as an Army reserve armor officer in 1959 and became one of the first African American Special Forces officers to lead a team in combat.

Davis received the Medal of Honor on March 3, 2023, for his actions on June 17โ€“18, 1965, near Bong Son, Vietnam. As a Captain commanding Detachment A-321 of the 5th Special Forces Group, he led an inexperienced South Vietnamese unit against a superior enemy force. Despite being wounded multiple times, he refused medical evacuation until he had rescued three stranded American soldiers and ensured the safety of his unit, sustaining grenade fragment and gunshot wounds during the 19-hour battle.

His Medal of Honor award came after a 58-year struggle; his original nominations in 1965 and 1969 were lost by the military, with suggestions that racism may have been a factor in the delays. Following his military career, which included command of the 10th Special Forces Group and retirement as a Colonel in 1985, Davis published the Metro Herald newspaper for 30 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Northern Virginia University and was inducted into the U.S. Army Ranger Hall of Fame in 2019.
