A Shift Begins? Canadian Media Start Discussing Six-Month USMCA Termination Possible

July 5, 2026 | sundance |

The media and Canadian government discussions around the U.S-Canada trade and economic relationship, specifically as they pertain to the USMCA (CUSMA)continue to be fascinating.

As we noted over a year ago, theexpressed perception from the Canadian side was remarkably disconnected from the most likely scenario.

The level ofentrenched disbeliefthat the U.S. could completely separate from a trilateral trade deal in favor of a bilateral replacement has been remarkable to watch.

However, for the first time today Canadian media began admitting to themselves the USMCA can technically be terminatedwithin six months; albeit buried at the end of the article.

GLOBAL NEWS – […] “I’m not in a position to guarantee anything. These decisions are made at the White House. They are made by the president,” Hoekstra said.

His comments comejust days after the Trump administration declined to extend the trilateral pact with Canada and Mexicofor a new 16-year term, citing what the U.S. calls “shortcomings” and “trade deficits.” Mexico and Canada both publicly pushed for a renewal.

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested last month thatthe U.S. is “better without” CUSMA, and that he’d even prefer to see it “terminated.”

When asked by Global News, Hoekstra would not say if the administration is considering ripping up the deal, which can be done by any party with six months’ formal notice.

“All options are on the table,” Hoekstra said.“[Termination] clearly is allowed for within the agreement.” (read more)

Canada has painted themselves into a corner on the issue of Chinese manufactured automobiles. This is an issue that is not going away.

Carney brought this on himself. His arrogance and lies will be revealed to Canadians. He’s been lying to them since he got in.

Fired NYC Council unpaid intern who demanded $32-an-hour ‘livable wage’ is just another silver-spoon socialist

Published July 5, 2026

A 21-year-old socialist and unpaid former NYC Council internwho claimed she was axed after demanding she and her peers get paid $32 an hour with full health benefits— and plans to sue the Council —was born into wealth.

Mina Farahmand —who worked voluntarily last yearto help get fellow silver-spoon socialist Zohran Mamdani elected mayor – isthe daughter of a prominent surgeon and grew up in a palatial six-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home on 30 acres in Colville, Wash.

Her father, Mehrdad Farahmand, is a general-surgery specialist at Providence, the largest health care provider in Washington State.Although his salary is not public, a current job posting for a general surgeon at Providence offers $457,269 to $555,423 in pay per year.

The elder Farahmand also owns a vacant five-and-a-half-acre lot about 10 miles away in nearby Kettle Falls, Wash., bringing his total property portfolio to nearly $1 million.

Mina Farahmand made national headlines last month after being fired from an unpaid post as a legislative intern for Councilman Harvey Epstein(D-Manhattan)

The recent New York University graduate and card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of Americaclaimed she was terminated as retaliation for spearheading a petition campaign demanding Council Speaker Julie Menin set up a fund to pay all Council interns “a living wage” of $32 hourly — nearly double NYC’s existing minimum wage of $17 an hour – plus health benefits.

Critics blasted the money move by the Gen Zer dripping with generational wealth.

“This is just another nepo-baby agitator who signed up for an unpaid internship, then demanded to be paid after the fact,” said former Councilman Robert Holden, a moderate Democrat, upon learning of Farahmand’s affluent upbringing.

“We don’t need activists looking to create controversy. We need people who understand that public service starts with honoring the commitment you made.”

Farahmand’s internship started May 19 and was supposed to run through July.

Epstein insisted to City & State last weekthat his former intern was not canned over her organizing efforts and that the decision was instead “performance related.”

Farahmand on Tuesday vowed that she and other interns who signed the petition would sue the Council after it approved a new city budget that didn’t include funds to meet their pay demands.

“NYC Council’s budget . . . confirms they believe Council interns deserve to be unpaid,” Farahmand said on X. “We’ve already told them how we’ve gone hungry. Now we’re suing them for wages.”

As of Friday, the Council had not been served with a lawsuit.

Although some Council interns are paid, others work strictly for college credit.

Menin, who declined to comment, has previously said she’s always paid her interns andthat determining intern pay is up to each Council member.

Farahmand said, “We are suing the City of New York for wagesbecause all interns deserve to be paid, and virtually all New York City Council unpaid internships, including mine, are illegal under the primary beneficiary test in the Fair Labor Standards Act.”

Biden-era illegal immigration drove up housing costs, Fed economists find

Each 1% increase in unauthorized workers corresponded with about a 2.2% rise in home prices and a 1.4% increase in rents.

Amanda MaciasJuly 5, 2026 1:45pm EDT

A new Federal Reserve working paper found the record surge in illegal immigration during the Biden administration triggered higher home prices and rents.

The findings arrive as immigrationremains a polarizing political issue. Republicans argue former President Joe Biden's border policies strained housing and public resources, while Democrats say immigration helped ease labor shortages and supported economic growth.

The paper, published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, combines immigration court records with government administrative data to measure how the unprecedented wave of illegal immigration between 2021 and 2024 affected local labor and housing markets.

The authors caution the study is a preliminary draft circulated for professional comment and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas or the Federal Reserve System.

Researchers found the influx of illegal immigrants boosted employmentwith little measurable effect on wages but significantly increased housing demand.

A 1% increase in unauthorized workers relative to a local labor force corresponded with roughly a 1% increase in overall employment, with no evidence the immigration surge reduced average wages. The same 1% increase, however, was associated with a roughly 2.2% rise in home prices and a 1.4% increase in rents. Researchers found little evidence that homebuilding expanded enough to meet the added demand, concluding the influx acted as a housing demand shock in markets where supply was already constrained.

The economists estimate unauthorized immigrant worker flows accounted for about 30% of employment growth, roughly 30% of home-price growth, and about 20% of rent growth in the average metropolitan area between March 2021 and March 2024.

They stress these estimates apply to the average metro area studied and do not suggest immigration was the sole driver of rising housing costs nationwide.

The paper describes 2021 through 2024 as an "unprecedented boom" in illegal immigration.

Citing Congressional Budget Office estimates, the authors said net unauthorized immigration added roughly 7 million peopleto the U.S. population before slowing sharply in mid-2024.

Lefty California teacher who married Gaza man to give him US citizenship should ‘expect to be prosecuted’: Feds

By David Spector July 4, 2026

The far-left, Pro-Palestinian public school teacher who said married a Gaza man to give him American citizenship should expect to be prosecuted, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services warned this week.

“These individuals should expect to be discovered and prosecuted for this illegal activity,” USCIS Spokesman Zach Kahler said after The Post exposed the woke Californian’s twisted nuptials.

CODEPINK activist and California dance teacher Laura Pinho announced in a June 16 webinar called “Challenging Zionism In Our Schools” that she married a man in Gaza in order to “equalize the playing field.”

“I have power as an American citizen. I have a passport that I was just born with, and how can I live in this world if I don’t make every effort to equalize the playing field on whatever way that I can,” she said in a webinar, first uncovered by the North American Values Institute.

A Utah County Clerk marriage record shows that Pinho, 51, married Salem S.E. Abu Amra on April 5.

Utah allows for marriages to be conducted virtually as long as both parties bring valid ID and obtain a marriage license before the ceremony.

Just one month before the couple wed,Pinho organized a GoFundMe for her future husband which claimed he was the primary caregiver of a family of five.

“His days are spent securing clean water and foraging for food for his family and helping them stay alive,” she claimed.

In December 2024, Pinho posted on Facebook a meme that saidIsrael was founded by “Satanic bankers.”

Abu Amra has a history of social media posts that seemingly glorify terrorism.

He posted an image of a rifle with a rosesticking out of its hand guard next to the word Palestine written in English and Arabic in November 2018.

In 2019, he posted atribute to Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist Baha Abu al Attawho was killed in an Israeli airstrike that year.

That same year, he POSTED a text mosaic of two interlocking rifles comprised of the word “Palestine” written in different languages.

Pinho denied Friday to The Post that she married Abu Amra to give him U.S. citizenship andclaimed she is “wildly in love” with him. She said she didn’t mention this in the CODEPINK webinar because her ex, improv coach Derek J. Reid, was home at the time and within earshot.

Green card marriages are a federal crime that carry up to a five-year prison sentenceand $250,000 fine. The USCIS, which is under the Department of Homeland Security, said they have enhanced their capabilities to investigate marriage fraud, according to the Department of Justice.

“USCIS is constantly enhancing its investigative capabilities and will aggressively pursue individuals who engage in marriage fraud in an effort to obtain immigration benefits,” Kahler said.

The Post has reached out to Abu Amra for comment.

Trump pardons 9 people convicted of tampering with emission controls on diesel enginesJAMES CIRRONE

Sat, July 4, 2026

President Donald Trump pardoned nine people convicted of violating the Clean Air Act by tampering with diesel vehicle emissions-control systems.

On Friday, Trump announced six of the pardons on Truth Social, arguing that the men he granted clemency to were "persecuted by the Biden Administration" and punished for "fixing their car."

Eight of the people Trump pardoned were diesel mechanics or car tuners who were prosecuted for selling and installing so-called "defeat devices" into trucks, according to a Fox News review of federal court records.

These devices reprogram trucks to bypass federally required emissions controls and suppress diagnostic warnings. Without them, many diesel trucks can enter a "limp" mode that limits speed — sometimes to as little as 5 mph — until the emissions system is restored.

Trucks can also enter this limp mode when emissions controls fail. These failures are common and have been causing massive headaches for truckers and farmers for years, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Read On The Fox News App

People are more than willing to pay top dollar for mechanics who can do the job of disabling the emissions-limiting systems.

Matthew Geouge, one of the pardon recipients, ran two companies that sold illegal tuning devices. Just from the sale of those devices alone, his firms grossed more than $10 million, according to his December 2021 plea agreement.

Emissions-capping technology, specifically Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) systems, is also prone to malfunctions in extremely cold weather….

US Historian Victor Davis Hanson Weighs in On America at 250 Years, “Our Constitution Has Been Under a Stress Test Lately, But it’s Durable”

by David Greyson Jul. 5, 2026 5:20 pm64

US Historian Victor Davis Hanson was on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream to talk about where the United States is at its 250th year as a nation.

“How do you think we are doing as a country?” Bream asked.

I think we are doing pretty well. Our Constitution has been under a stress test lately, but it’s durable. It’s the oldest Constitutional Republic in the world right now,” Hanson said.

“As a historian, I alwayslook at the historical barometers of a healthy society, and they are pretty fundamental. Fuel, we are the biggest producer of oil and gas in the history of civilization. Food, we are the largest food producer,” Hanson continued.

Our military recruitment is up.We are starting to stress quantity and different types of procurement in weaponry,” Hanson said.

“Our fertility rate Shannon has gone back up to about 1.71.It’s not where it should at the millennium. That is a good barometer,” Hanson explained.

“I think most of our worries are about unity. I think there is a little requiescence of tribalism,” Hanson continued.

“We need to get back to the melting pot, and kind of drop this salad bowl flirtation. So, I’m kind of worried about that, but otherwise, I think we are in good shape,” Hanson said.

Bream showed a Fox News poll about how well Democracy is working in the United States. A majority said they didn’t think it was working properly.

“We’ve got brand new Fox News polling,” Bream said.

“60 percent say they don’t think it’s working very well, or not at all,” Bream said.

“I think a lot of it is the 40 to 45 percent who are college educated. I spent 50 years of my life in the University but I must tell you that it’s no longer empirical and inductive reasoning anymore. It’s more indoctrination, especially in the social science and humanities,” Hanson explained.

“We’ve really got to address thatand reintroduce civic education and basic history. We don’t teach history,” Hanson said.

“It’s very strange at how 50 million people and half of them come in here from, I’ll be frank, failed states, and yet, they are very critical of the state or nation, or culture that either they or their parents chose to embrace and come here, and yet they are so critical,” Hanson said.

“I think people have to be more explicit in their love of the country and to appreciate how different it is and how exceptional it is compared to the alternatives. And we don’t ask that of anybody anymore,” Hanson continued.

Report: Migrant Truck Driver Looking at Phone Runs Chicago Man Down, Does Not Stop After Killing Him

Warner Todd Huston5 Jul 2026

A migrant driver of a semi-truck was arrested and charged with running down and killing a Chicago man who was trying to change his tire alongside a suburban highway late in June.

The accident occurred early in the morning of June 24 when 24-year-old Sebastian Stone pulled off to the side of I-80 near Torrence Ave. to change a flat tire. While in the process of changing the tire, Stone was struck and killed by a semi-truck, which did not stop after running him down, CWBChicago reported.

Police were called to the scene by witnesses, and officers found Stone dead on the side of the road.

Witnesses described the truck that struck the stranded motorist and gave police the license plate number, the name of the company on the side of the truck, and the truck’s company ID number. By 9 a.m., police had confirmed the witness statements with license plate reader data.

Officials also confirmed that the semi was being driven by Kulgeet Kang, 34, whose name is of Punjabi origin and common among Sikh communities.

Further information on Kang’s immigration status has not been released.

Investigators contacted the company Kang was driving for and informed them of the incident, and company officials called the driver on his cell phone to alert him that he was being sought for killing a motorist. Company officials told police that Kang answered the phone, but then allegedly hung up on his bosses without speaking to them. He then refused to answer follow-up calls.

Hours later, Kang was located and arrested as police combed through the truck’s dash cam footage and Kang’s phone records.

Investigators said they discovered Kang was looking at his cell phone during the accident and confirmed that he did not stop to render aid or stay at the scene to be interviewed by responding police units.

Judge Rivanda Doss Beal granted the state’s detention requests, and he was charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Sikh truck drivers who have immigrated to the U.S. by the tens of thousands to take semi driving jobs have claimed to be suffering a higher level of anti-immigrant vitriol after Sikh truckers have been reported at the center of a growing number of deadly crashes all across the U.S.

According to the Associated Press (AP), the North American Punjabi Truckers Association estimates that the Sikh workforce makes up about 40 percent of truck drivers on the West Coast and about 20 percent nationwide, meaning there are at least 150,000 Sikh truckers working in the U.S.

Zelensky and Putin Hold Separate Talks With President Trump on Ending War

Breitbart London5 Jul 2026

AP) — One person was killed in a Ukrainian attack on Russian-occupied Crimea, Moscow-installed officials said in the early hours of Sunday, as Russian and Ukrainian leaders held separate calls with U.S. President Donald Trump on ending the war, now in its fifth year.

Two others were injured in the attack on northern Crimea, including one in a serious condition, the Russia-installed regional Gov. Sergei Aksyonov wrote on Telegram. He did not give details of the attack.

In recent weeks Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on key infrastructure targets in Crimea as Kyiv´s military seeks to isolate the vital Russian-held peninsula in the latest stage of the war.

The peninsula was seized by force and illegally annexed by Moscow in 2014. Ukraine´s increasing use of long-range strikes has highlighted its ability to inflict painful damage on Russia and put added pressure on the Kremlin while Moscow´s advances recently have ground to a near halt, Western analysts and officials say.

The latest attacks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Trump on ending the war.

Writing on X, Zelenskyy said he called to congratulate Trump to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence and that the two leaders discussed the situation along the front line.

“There is a real prospect of ending this war, and America´s determination will be crucial. We agreed to continue the conversation in person during the NATO summit in Ankara,” he said late Saturday.

The Kremlin said that Putin and Trump discussed the conflict in Ukraine in a “constructive” phone call on Saturday.

Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov said that Putin congratulated Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of America´s independence during the call that lasted nearly an hour and half, their fourth conversation so far this year.

Ushakov said that Trump reaffirmed his “readiness to help achieve a quick cessation of hostilities and search for peaceful solutions to settle the crisis” in Ukraine, while Trump´s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will continue mediation efforts and stand ready to visit Moscow.

The Kremlin adviser said Putin once again emphasized Russia´s “preference for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict, provided that Russia´s well-known, fundamental positions are taken into account.”

At the same time, Putin charged that Kyiv and its European allies are “betting on prolonging, and even escalating the conflict,” arguing that “the European `party of war´ proceeds from a flawed perception of the overall situation and the state of things along the line of contact,” Ushakov said.

He added that Putin told Trump about the “real situation on the battlefield, where Russian armed forces are confidently advancing, liberating one settlement after another.”

The Russian leader specifically mentioned the capture of the Ukrainian stronghold of Kostyantynivka, describing it as a key step toward the “liberation” of the entire Donetsk region. Kyiv has denied the Russian claim of capturing Kostyantynivka.

Trump: Netanyahu ‘Knows Who the Boss Is’ as Leaders Plan White House Meeting

Jasmyn Jordan4 Jul 2026

President Donald Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested a White House meetingthat could take place after the president returns from next week’s NATO summit, as the two leaders have differed over Iran diplomacy and Israel’s continued military operations in Lebanon.

Trump told Axios global affairs correspondent Barak Ravid during a brief phone interview Saturday thathe and Netanyahu get along well, before clarifying the relationship.

“We get along very good. [Netanyahu] knows who the boss is,” Trump said, referring to himself.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed that the Israeli prime minister spoke with Trump on Friday to mark the United States’ 250th Independence Day,and the two leaders agreed to meet in the United States.

“During their conversation, the Prime Minister said that the United States is a guarantor of global freedom, and that Israel greatly values the close relationship between the two nations. Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump agreed to meet soon in the United States,” Netanyahu’s office said.

Trump told Axios that Netanyahu had requested the meeting. He said it could occur after he returns from the NATO summit in Turkey, which is scheduled for July 7 and 8.

An Israeli official cautioned thatTrump’s travel schedule could make a meeting next week difficult.

“It might take place the week after,” the official said.

The meeting would mark Trump and Netanyahu’s ==first face-to-face talks since February when Netanyahu outlined plans for a joint military campaign against Iran•= during a meeting in the White House Situation Room.

The timing could be significant for Netanyahu as he prepares for Israel’s October elections while trailing in polls cited by Axios.

Theproposed visit also comes amid reported frustration with Netanyahu among some members of Trump’s inner circlefollowing the February meeting.

“Many of Trump’s closest advisers think that Bibi was wrong about everything,” a U.S. official told Axios.

Trump and Netanyahu have increasingly diverged over Israel’s military operations in Lebanonand the risk that further escalation could derail U.S. negotiations with Iran. After Israel struck Beirut in response to Hezbollah fire and Iran subsequently launched missiles at Israel, Trump said he would call Netanyahu and urge him not to retaliate against Iran.According to multiple U.S. and Israeli media reports, Trump later intervenedwhen Israel was preparing a much larger attack on Iran, warning Netanyahu, “Bibi, you better be careful, or you will be on your own very soon.” The reports said Netanyahu subsequently called off the broader operation. Days later, Trump criticized another Israeli attack on Beirut asone that “should not have happened” and reportedly asked Netanyahu, “What the fu*k are you doing?” before telling him not to conduct additional strikes.

The two leaders have also differed over Israel’s presence in southern Lebanon. Trump pushed for a ceasefire and pressed Netanyahu to accept a U.S.-brokered framework under which Israeli forces would redeploy from limited areas and the Lebanese army would deploy in their place as Hezbollah infrastructure was dismantled.Israel later demolished a major Hezbollah tunnel after the agreement was signed, while Netanyahu continued to insist that the IDF would remain in its security zone until Hezbollah was disarmed. During a July 1 visit to Israeli troops, Netanyahu declared, “We will not leave southern Lebanon until the threat has been eliminated,” reflecting the differences between Trump’s diplomatic efforts and Israel’s insistence on maintaining its military presence until it considers the threat removed.
