I had a pesky wood pecker who used to look for bugs by pecking on the eaves of my house. I found out that they are scared of the call of that type of wood pecker in distress. I found a recording of one being devoured by a hawk. It was calling out in distress.
When the pest would come by and peck on my eaves I'd open the doors and windows and play that recording at full volume. The pest went away every single time.
