Farage Resigns As MP To Force 'People Vs. The Establishment' By-Election

Nigel Farage, leader of Britain's Reform UK party, said Tuesday he is resigning as the member of Parliament for Clacton to trigger a by-election in the Essex constituency, which he intends to contest as the party's candidate.

Farage, who won the seat in the 2024 general election, cast the upcoming vote as a direct challenge to political and media elites. "This will be a people vs. the establishment by-election," he said in a statement. "A chance to stick two fingers up to the entire establishment."

I will make a statement on my future in public life at 2pm.

The announcement came during a statement on his "future in public life" after days of intense scrutiny over his personal finances and political donations. Farage has been under investigation by Parliament's standards commissioner since May over a £5 million gift he received in early 2024 from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne, a major Reform UK donor. Critics say the gift should have been declared because it was received in the 12 months before Farage became an MP.

Additional questions have arisen over undeclared support Farage allegedly received from longtime associate George Cottrell, who was convicted of wire fraud in the United States in 2017. Reports also detailed media coverage of Farage's family home, prompting the politician to accuse outlets of harassing his daughter and other relatives.

This is an outright lie from @SkyNews. They hounded my daughter at home, just days after The Times published where my family live. Despicable behaviour from the media. pic.twitter.com/cNfZ6Rmzb4

— Nigel Farage MP (@Nigel_Farage) July 6, 2026

Farage has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, describing the gifts and support as personal matters and calling the investigations an "establishment hit job." He said he has "done nothing wrong" and has not broken any laws.

Hours After Biggest Drone Blitz On Moscow In Two Years, Zelensky Turns Up Heat At NATO

Ukraine's President Zelensky is in Ankara for the annual NATO summit, trying to bring the pressure on the alliance to step up more defense backing amid the grinding war with Russia, which has increasingly turned into a 'battle of the skies'.

Over 430 Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow and the surrounding region overnight, soon after which Zelensky appeared on the NATO stage Tuesday, urging allies to prioritize the production of anti-ballistic missile systems. Already Britain has said it plans to lead the way in the Western alliance developing and providing long-range missiles for Kiev.

"The one thing we still need to do here in Europe is build a strong defense against Russia's ballistic missiles," Zelensky said. "It’s a big challenge; this is Russia’s last major advantage."

He cast Russia's own ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine as an issue of global importance. "We already see each other as reliable partners, and it would be only natural to become a part of one common security community," Zelensky told European leaders, also with President Trump in attendance.

The overnight drone attack on the Moscow region is being described as the largest air raid on the Russian capital in two years, though no significant damage or injuries were reported - as air defenses were busy and apparently successful this time.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said "most" of the inbound UAVs were "neutralized by air defense forces on distant approaches." Across the whole nation, Russia's Defense Ministry separately indicated it intercepted 452 Ukrainian drones Monday night into Tuesday morning.

As a result of the heavy attack wave, all four of Moscow's major airports suspended services or else imposed serious flight restrictions, which has by this point happened many times before.

Ukrainian Drone Swarm Attack Hits Eight Russian 'Shadow Fleet' Tankers

Beyond Ukraine's increasing kamikaze drone attacks on key Russian energy infrastructure, which appear to be fueling a domestic fuel crisis, Kyiv has now widened the pressure campaign of drone swarm attacks on Russia's shadow fleet of tankers.

Reuters cites a statement from Ukraine's drone forces that said a swarm of loitering munitions struck eight Russian shadow fleet tankers with a deadweight of around 7,000 tons in the Sea of Azov.

The drone swarm attack came a day after Ukraine's special forces hit two other shadow-fleet tankers in the same area.

Ukraine said it was targeting Russia's naval supply chain to induce fuel shortages and a broader push to isolate Crimea. The peninsula was annexed by Russia in 2014 and serves as a staging ground for Moscow’s war effort.

"Striking the enemy's naval logistics complicates the supply of fuel and ammunition necessary ‌to support the activities of Russian troops, primarily in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea," the drone forces said.

The takeaway here is very clear as both sides are moving deeper into massive drone warfare, and neither appears prepared to de-escalate.

NATO summit opens with Trump threats: LIVE UPDATES

The US president has arrived in Ankara with some strong words for the bloc’s European members

The US president told reporters that he is “very disappointed with NATO” for not meeting this target and backing the US-Israeli war on Iran, and suggested that he could announce further drawdowns of US forces in Europe in response.

Trump said he only decided to travel to the summit out of respect for Erdogan, who he hailed as “a very strong leader.” Despite Erdogan’s condemnation of the war on Iran and the growing tensions between Türkiye and Israel, Trump announced that he would lift sanctions on Ankara over Erdogan’s purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system, and would consider reversing his ban on selling F-35 fighter jets to Türkiye – a move that would likely anger Israel.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has used the summit to ask for more weapons from his EU backers, this time anti-air systems capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. One day earlier, the Russian military launched a combined missile and drone assault on Kiev, destroying weapons factories and other military infrastructure.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who infamously referred to Trump as “daddy” during last year’s meeting in The Hague, is using the Ankara summit as an opportunity to prove his value to Trump.

“President Trump fully expects that all allies will step up immediately and get on the path to 5% and do it with urgency,” he said on Monday, telling reporters that he plans to flatter the US president by bringing up “the Trump trillion” – his term for the trillion dollars that Canada and NATO’s European members have spent cumulatively on defense since Trump’s first term in office began in 2017.

The Netherlands and the UK have signed a $3.2 billion maritime deal to develop amphibious transport ships, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer just announced in a statement. With each nation agreeing to build just four ships, it’s a small victory for Starmer, who is expected to leave office this autumn.

The pomp continues as Trump arrives for dinner with NATO leaders. The president flashes a quick thumbs up to reporters before heading inside to dine with Erdogan and his wife, Emine. The formal dinner caps off the first day of the summit.

17:07 GMT

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Ankara bragging about the €800 billion ($913 billion) the EU intends to spend on rearmament by 2030, the €150 billion in debt-financed defense loans for member states, and the €4 billion handed over to Ukraine for drone procurement earlier this month.

Trump didn’t appear to be impressed. “Europe better be careful with immigration and energy. If they are not careful with those two things you’re not going to have a Europe anymore,” he told reporters.

US DOJ explains decision to drop ‘baseless’ case against Indian billionaire

The Adani case is primarily foreign, hard to prove, and inconsistent with current priorities, the agency has said

The US Justice Department (DOJ) has explained its decision not to pursue fraud charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, who was initially targeted under the administration of President Joe Biden.

A US judge in June ordered prosecutors to justify their decision to drop their case against Adani, saying federal prosecutors did not sufficiently explain their decision.

Prosecutors had said in May that they do not intend to pursue the case, which charged Adani with securities fraud and wire fraud stemming from an alleged bribery scheme.

The case is “primarily foreign, hard to prove, and inconsistent with the agency’s current priorities,” the DOJ said in a ten-page submission on Saturday, Reuters reported.

It listed reasons why it sought to dismiss all charges with prejudice against Adani and other defendants.

In the latest filing, the DOJ sought to shift the blame to prosecutors under the Biden administration for initiating a “baseless case against Adani with little chance of success.”

“The indictment was unsealed in the final days of the prior administration, apparently as a ‘name and shame’ designed to levy accusations without any realistic prospect of a trial ever occurring,” the DOJ’s court filing said.

The DOJ submission says federal attorneys should not prosecute a “foreign case” of alleged conduct that involves “no criminal organizations and no US companies, and does not affect national security.”

“The alleged ‘payments’ in this case ‌were made by Indian nationals, working for Indian companies, to the Indian government, with no US interests implicated in any way,” the filing says.

The 2024 case charged Adani with agreeing to bribe Indian government officials to get approval for a group arm to develop a solar energy plant. The charges also allege that Adani misled US investors by providing reassuring information about his company’s anti-corruption practices.

The Adani Group has consistently denied the charges, and Gautam Adani has not appeared in a US court to respond to them.

West Bank families demand justice over children slain by Israeli military

RT’s Charlotte Dubenskij reports from the occupied West Bank, where more than 230 children have been killed in Israeli military operations and settler attacks since 2023

Palestinian families are demanding accountability over the deaths of children killed during Israeli military operations and settler attacks in the occupied West Bank since late 2023.

Through the stories of children ranging from infants to teenagers, told by grieving relatives, RT describes lives cut short and what they say is a complete lack of justice.

According to Israeli human rights group B’Tselem, Palestinian children remain among the highest casualty groups of the conflict. The latest name added to that list is 15-year-old Amir Jaber, who was shot dead by Israeli forces near his home in Ramallah during a military raid last month. The IDF claimed troops opened fire during what it described as a violent disturbance.

“No one holds Israel accountable except God, they killed him and others in cold blood,” says Amir’s brother, while another relative asks, “Who is going to hold them accountable?” Families interviewed by RT say no one has ever been prosecuted over the deaths of their children.

Democrats Pick Up the Global Digital ID Agenda in Project 2029

A bid to end online anonymity under the premise of child safety.

A group of operatives gathers every few years to write the document that will supposedly save the party, and this season’s entry comes from Project 2029, a “liberal” outfit built as the mirror image of the conservative Project 2025.

One side wrote a blueprint that ended up staffing part of a presidential administration. The other would like the same result, but opens with the safest subject in American politics, the welfare of children.

What it has actually picked up is a global digital ID agenda, a policy spreading through Australia, Britain, and the European Union, the government-backed age check, increasingly a digital ID, that decides who gets onto a platform.

As first reported by Semafor, Project 2029 wants to make it the opening pitch of the next Democratic campaign, sold under the same banner every other global elite is using, child protection.

The first product off the line is called “Kids Over Clicks.” It would ban social media accounts for anyone under 16, trim the liability shield in Section 230, cap data collection on minors, and outlaw the targeted ads that follow them around the web.

The group’s executive director, Chad Maisel, a former adviser to Joe Biden and Cory Booker, frames the rollout as a contest of nerve. “We’re going to see many people running for president…and we want to set the standard in terms of the type of ambition that we want to see when it comes to solving these problems,” he said.

The pitch arrives wrapped in the language of a public-health crusade. Project 2029 calls this the “tobacco moment” for social media, and the psychologist Jonathan Haidt, one of its boosters, supplies the closing argument. “We are at the ‘tobacco moment’ for social media. The science is in, the lawsuits are succeeding, and public support is overwhelming. This agenda gives policymakers no excuse not to act,” he said.

It’s a clean story, complete with a villain and a rescue. It also runs on something its authors rarely say out loud.

To keep children off a platform, somebody has to check the age of everyone who shows up. At the scale of a national social network, there is no gentle way to do that. You confirm identity. A birth year typed into a box proves nothing, so the check hardens into a government ID, a face scan, or a digital credential tied to a real person.

The under-16 rule, sold as a wall around children, becomes a turnstile that adults have to badge through too. The framework keeps this in the footnotes. Once a platform must verify ages, the anonymous account stops being possible, and the pseudonymous handle that lets someone speak without surrendering a legal name turns into a verified record, logged and stored, waiting for the next breach or subpoena.

Not all of Kids Over Clicks pulls in that direction. Banning surveillance ads and capping data collection on minors would shrink what companies hoard, the rare provisions that take something from the platforms rather than from the user. The age gate sits awkwardly beside them, demanding the one thing the rest of the document is trying to protect, a person’s identity.

Third of US Jews say Israel committed genocide in Gaza, as broader support dives

Only 2 in 10 Americans say Israel did not commit genocide, while half don’t know enough to say; 58% of Dems think US too supportive of Israel; only 20% have positive view of PM

After decades of reliable American bipartisan backing for Israel, a new poll reveals a dramatic erosion of support for the longtime US ally, with rising opposition from Democrats and signs of division among Republicans.

The survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research arrives at a moment when a once-consensus foreign policy issue is increasingly polarizing Americans along partisan and generational lines, driven by criticism for Israel’s conduct nearly three years after the outbreak of its latest war with Hamas in Gaza, which began after the terror group led a brutal massacre of southern communities on October 7, 2023.

About one-third of US adults — including roughly half of Democrats — believe that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians during the war in Gaza.

Israel insists that it fights in accordance with international law, and has rejected allegations of genocide or other war crimes in its campaign against Hamas. It has noted evacuation warnings sent in advance of airstrikes; efforts, throughout most of the war, to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid; and Hamas’s systematic use of human shields.

About 2 in 10 Americans say Israel has not committed genocide, and the rest — about half — don’t know enough to say.

A similar share — 30 percent — of Jewish adults say Israel has committed genocide, although about half, 49%, say it has not.

Harold Kalmus, a 69-year-old Democrat from Arden, Delaware, who describes himself as Jewish by birth, said he remembers being proud of Israel when he was younger. Not anymore.

Over 90,000 houses damaged by Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon

Continued Israeli attacks have prevented more than 600,000 people from returning to southern Lebanon, according to Al Jazeera.

Israel is posting videos of its military blowing up neighbourhoods. The soldiers have been doing this for months – wiping villages off the map – actions that rights groups say violate international law, reports Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr.

From Tibnine, Hussein Sabra is able to see his hometown of Hadatha, just a few kilometres away, yet unreachable. From there, he watches and hears the explosions.

“This is hard for anyone to bear … watching your homes … your livelihoods destroyed … all your childhood memories gone,” Sabra tells the Qatar-based broadcaster.

More than 90,000 homes, according to a government survey, have been damaged or destroyed, said Khodr. The reconstruction bill is estimated at more than $1 billion, money people there do not have, she added.

“People are only making minor repairs to make their homes livable, but they are worried the violence will escalate again,” Ahmed Hamza, a Tibnine resident, says.

Those who have returned say they live in fear.

“The children are always scared because of the sound of explosions … the whole house shakes,” saysAbu Hussein, a Tibnine resident.

Rahm Emanuel's Landmark Tel Aviv Speech to Rebuke Netanyahu for Leading Israel to Diplomatic 'Dead End'

Rahm Emanuel, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, will warn Israel that it has lost the world's support and become a 'regional pariah'. The alliance with the U.S. is 'at a crossroads,' the longtime Israel ally and experienced foreign policy operative will say, according to advance copy of his speech

https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/2026-07-07/ty-article/.premium/rahm-emanuels-speech-to-rebuke-netanyahu-for-leading-israel-to-dead-end/0000019f-3d5e-d07c-af9f-fd5fc6d20000

Emanuel's speech will be particularly notable considering his long standing as one of Israel's starkest defenders in foreign policy circles - including during his time as a senior U.S. official in the Clinton and Obama administrations.

Emanuel's father was born in Jerusalem and was a member of the Irgun paramilitary organization fighting for Israeli independence. Emanuel has telegraphed for months that he is taking a new tone and approach toward the Israeli government as his presidential aspirations have become increasingly crystallized - a clear indication of where the Democratic Party is headed and how the Israel debate in the 2028 presidential primary cycle may play out.

The United States' unconditional support, Emanuel will argue, has led Israel down a path that has left the world to conclude that "Israelis not only want to kill the Palestinians but that they are completely indifferent to their death, destruction, and suffering."

"[The alliance] cannot stand or survive as it has been," Emanuel will say at Tel Aviv University, according to the full text of his speech, which was released in advance by his staff on Tuesday. "To maintain the strength of our ties, we need significant changes and a new direction."

Emanuel, a longtime supporter of Israel and a former chief of staff to President Barack Obama, will warn Israel that it had lost the world's support and become a "regional pariah": "You've lost Europe. Your scientists face exclusion from international research networks. Your artists and academics are shut out of exhibits and conferences. 55% of Americans held a favorable view of Israel in 2022—today, it's 37% and dropping. The only diplomatic gain you've made over the last three years is Somaliland."

Tomorrow at 9:30am ET at Tel Aviv University, I'll lay out where I believe the US-Israel relationship must go from here. I didn't come to flatter anyone. I came because real friends tell each other hard truths — and tomorrow, I will. Stay tuned.

The American approach of blind support for Israeli policy was mistaken, Emanuel will say. His remarks, while focusing on Netanyahu's leadership, won't spare criticism of Israeli actions in the Gaza war and the West Bank. "Unconditional support has allowed you to deny food and medical relief to innocent Palestinians suffering in Gaza, leaving the world to conclude that Israelis not only want to kill the Palestinians but that they are completely indifferent to their death, destruction, and suffering. Unconditional support has girded a political coalition in the Knesset that learned it can burn Palestinian farmland in the West Bank and terrorize Palestinian families without consequence."

Emanuel will promise that sanctions will be leveled against Israelis found attacking Palestinians on their property and against officials who support their violence. In addition, construction companies and financial institutions involved in illegal settlements will also be sanctioned. Addressing the possibility of annexation, Emanuel is expected to warn that "Israel will be alone if its leaders choose to attempt to annex the West Bank and pursue the fantasy of a greater Israel."

Alongside his criticism, Emanuel will outline a regional diplomatic framework that he will say should replace the two-state solution. The path to a "two-state solution" has been discredited, Emanuel will say, and should be replaced by a "23-state solution" that calls on Arab states to assume a leading role in establishing new Palestinian leadership and advancing full regional recognition of Israel. Emanuel will also advocate restructuring U.S. security assistance to Israel, arguing that "we should end at long last the American taxpayer's subsidy of Israel's defense budget."

The 23-state solution has been repeatedly promoted by J Street, further shedding light on how the liberal pro-Israel organization once considered the party's leftward flank is now the mainstream consensus as the party shifts further left on Israel.
