I agree, but I think dogs add even better protection because:

(1) they can hear things humans cannot hear, so they're able to detect threats long before we can; and

(2) their presence allows us to offer bad guys two options from which to choose:

a. do you want to get shot?; or

b. do you want to get chewed up and then shot?

I think it's best to offer options to people, even bad guys.
