Charlie Kirk's on-camera assassination ten months ago sparked a wave of conspiracy theories and social media frenzy immediately after the conservative firebrand's death.
But at the pre-trial hearings for suspected killer Tyler Robinson, 23, in Provo, Utah, this week, several theories peddled by popular streamers quickly came under scrutiny.
Candace Owens, a commentator whose shows routinely attract millions of views, has frequently claimed that she does not believe Robinson was even at the Utah Valley University campus when Kirk was shot.
This theory appeared to fall apart early in Robinson's pre-trial hearings, however, as prosecutors presented a number of pieces of surveillance footage of Robinson allegedly stalking the campus that day.
Owens, a former Turning Point USA organizer and once-close friend of Kirk's, has also said she believes Kirk was never shot at all, but was hit by an exploding microphone.
Yet, like many conspiracies surrounding the case - also including that Kirk was set up by his own security team, or a foreign government played a role - prosecutors' statements have done little to calm theories around the shooting.
Owens dismissed an autopsy report put forward by prosecutors that found Kirk died by a single bullet to the neck, and said on X on Tuesday that she was not convinced by the surveillance, either.
She said she believes the figure in the footage is 'at least 6'2, possibly 6'3', while the suspect is registered at 5'10. 'I do not believe that is Tyler Robinson,' she wrote.
While some theories fell apart in the early hearings, other possibilities that have been peddled - such as Owens' implication that either Kirk's widow Erika or the Israeli government were involved - are too outlandish to even be addressed in the evidence hearings.
The fervent nature of the case is sure to continue to ignite wild conspiracies even as prosecutors lay out their evidence against Robinson.
Podcaster Keli Rabon, another conspiracy theorist who was present in the courthouse, told a New York Times reporter outside the hearing: 'You're going to think I'm crazy, but I think Charlie is still alive.'

George Soros Angers Hamptons Residents After Massive Land Purchase
George Soros has long used his billions to influence politics, but now his family appears to be using that wealth to reshape its own backyard through a massive land grab in the Hamptons.
The Soros family has purchased 18 plots of land on Shelter Island, a Hamptons community, angering residents who are concerned that the billionaire’s presence in the area will trigger rising costs.
Soros’s shopping spree, reported by the New York Post on July 2, makes him and his sons, Alex and Gregory Soros, the largest private landowners on the approximately 8,000-acre island.
According to the Post, the massive purchases are not the first time the Soros family has angered residents. In 2020, Gregory snatched a 22-acre property on a quiet street.
However, the quiet atmosphere turned into chaos when construction trucks began arriving to build one of the island’s largest swimming pools.
Local plumbers and maids are required to sign non-disclosure agreements before being allowed to work on the Soroses’ properties, residents alleged.
Surveillance cameras have reportedly been installed on local streets, raising privacy concerns among residents of the island, which is only accessible by boat.
At one point, the Soros family reportedly purchased multiple homes along a single road and sought approval from local officials to install a fence to block access from other residents.
However, Shelter Island resident Steve Lenox is concerned that Soros will soon get his way.
“We can’t keep up with the lawyers that these millionaires have and they seem to build whatever they want,” Lenox told the Shelter Island Town Board during a meeting on June 29, according to the Post.
“That’s what’s ruining the island.”
Another resident, Mike Gaynor, echoed those concerns during the meeting, pointing to other communities that became unaffordable at the arrival of millionaires.
According to the Post, residents first noticed the Soros family’s presence on the island when the family installed a deer fence around one of its properties, allegedly in violation of local zoning rules.

BREAKING: Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan spared jail time after conviction for helping illegal immigrant evade ICE in her courtroom
Dugan was convicted in December 2025 of felony obstruction after intentionally helping a Mexican national who was in the country illegally avoid ICE agents.
Former Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan was sentenced Wednesday to a mere $5,000 fine and will serve no prison time or probation after being convicted for helping an illegal immigrant evade arrest.
Dugan was convicted in December 2025 of felony obstruction. The conviction stems from her intentionally helping a Mexican national who was in the country illegally avoid Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at a courthouse who were waiting to arrest him in April of 2025.
Dugan resigned as a Milwaukee County judge in January after nine years, after Republican state lawmakers called for her impeachment. She defended her misconduct, saying it was done to maintain the "decorum and safety of the courtroom."
“I have been cast as both a scofflaw and a hero. I am neither. I am a public servant who’s just trying to do my job,” Dugan told the court.
In a sentencing memo filed last week, prosecutors argued that Dugan had violated her oath as a judge.
“Judges are entrusted with tremendous discretion, but there is a line they cannot cross,” said Executive Assistant US Attorney Richard Frohling, adding that Dugan had "crossed that line."
However, Dugan's attorneys said she had been "punished enough" after she resigned. They also cited threats of violence she has allegedly been facing. In response, US District Judge Lynn Adelman noted Dugan's lack of misconduct in her life before the incident as a reason for the lenient sentence.
