If I had an abundance of money I would just give a chunk of money to someone who really needs it once in a while. Or to someone interesting, motivated, or creative to set them on a vector to make the world a better or more interesting place. Maybe it's just a crazy idea. If I didn't give the money outright, I haven't lent money to someone in long time expecting to be paid back. I lend it because they need it or I feel they are deserving of it in some way.
True, giving money to someone carries it's own risks. Discernment is a common theme in my post though.
And if existence was completely risk free what would be the point of it?
That's fair. Can't fault you for having that policy. Still haven't changed my own tire. Only ever had two flats, and one was temp patched with that fix a flat stuff so there wasn't even a need to change itit myself.
