It isn't a complex riddle at all.

You just have to know a few things.

When John says Jesus is the LOGOS, this is offering a twist on the prior philosophical reading of LOGOS as some sort of abstract Reason, something a bit akin to the Tao.

But John is saying that this particular embodied man is the LOGOS.

"Word" as a translation of LOGOS makes SOME sense in the later context of Christianity, but it is a POOR translation if you are trying to grasp how the NT is building on and reinterpreting prior Greek intellectual life.
