Hunter Biden Awarded $1.7 Million in Defamation Case Against Trump-Supporting Former Overstock CEO

A federal judge has awarded Hunter Biden $1.7 million in punitive damages plus additional sanctions against former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne over statements he had made linking the Biden family to an alleged scheme involving Iranian assets and the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks.

The ruling, handed down on Friday by District Judge Stephen Wilson in California, came after Byrne repeatedly stood by claims that Hunter Biden had pledged to influence his father, then-President Joe Biden, to unfreeze $8 billion in Iranian assets in exchange for an $800 million bribe.

The judge found that Byrne’s comments went beyond protected speech and showed intent to harm Hunter Biden’s reputation.

Byrne continued to stand by the allegations throughout the lawsuit, a point the judge took issue with in his ruling.

The ruling stated, in part:

“Here, the evidence is clear and convincing that defendant has engaged in intentional misrepresentation with conscious disregard towards plaintiff’s rights. Defendant’s defamation went far beyond mere negligence. In fact, defendant has admitted that after the offending article was published, defendant repeatedly reposted the article across social media platforms and encouraged his followers on those platforms to promote it further. In fact, during the pendency of this litigation, even while Defendant was defying the Court’s orders and failing to appear at hearings, Defendant appeared on talk shows and restated the same defamatory statements at issue in the case.”

Byrne initially made the allegations in a June 2023 interview and then amplified them on social media on October 8, 2023, the day after the Hamas attacks on Israel.

“The clear implication of Byrne’s October 8, 2023 posts was that Plaintiff’s allegedly criminal and corrupt actions had contributed to the terrorist attacks by Hamas,” the complaint, obtained by Mediaite, had stated.

Byrne alleged that Hunter Biden had brokered a corrupt deal involving Iranian money and implied that this corruption played a role in enabling the terrorist attacks.

Hunter Biden’s legal team argued that these claims were baseless and designed to damage his reputation at a time when the former president’s family was already under intense scrutiny over foreign business dealings.

Judge Wilson awarded the full $1.7 million in punitive damages that Hunter sought, along with $1 in nominal damages and roughly $35,000 in court sanctions against Byrne for his conduct during the litigation, including defying court orders and failing to appear at hearings while publicly repeating the claims.

Apple Sues ‘Rotten’ OpenAI for Alleged Theft of Trade Secrets.

Apple has filed a federal lawsuit accusing OpenAI of misappropriating confidential information through former Apple employees.

Apple has filed a federal lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that the company engaged in “a pattern of theft” of trade secrets by hiring former Apple employees. The lawsuit claims OpenAI and its recent acquisition, io Products, exploited confidential Apple information to advance their hardware efforts, alleging the business “rests on the shakiest of foundations, rotten to its core by its illegal reliance on misappropriated trade secrets.”

The lawsuit names two former Apple employees, Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan, who allegedly accessed sensitive company information before joining OpenAI. Apple accuses OpenAI of using this information as part of a broader strategy to enter the consumer hardware market, including instructing job candidates to bring Apple components to interviews. OpenAI denies the allegations, stating that it is not interested in rival tech firms’ trade secrets and that it is reviewing the complaint.

“We have no interest in other companies’ trade secrets.” – Drew Pusateri, OpenAI spokesman

The lawsuit represents a significant escalation in tensions between Apple and OpenAI, as Apple seeks to block OpenAI from using any allegedly misappropriated information. OpenAI’s upcoming hardware launch and plans to go public could be affected if the court grants Apple’s request for immediate restrictions and damages.

I was in the courtroom today. There is no high-quality, zoomed-in footage showing anyone taking a shot. The video shown is the same distance as the footage of “Tyler” jumping off the roof shown in this screen shot.

I have no idea why people are claiming otherwise. They know the video isn’t going to be released publicly, so they’re misrepresenting what was actually shown in court.

Why US politics feels like it’s all about Israel — and what that does and doesn’t mean for Jews

Israel has become the perfect wedge issue for progressive Democrats. That’s left many US Jews in an uncomfortable spot, regardless of how they feel about the Jewish state’s actions

One of the most surprising things about the implosion of Graham Platner’s campaign for US Senate, given the current state of American politics, is that it had nothing to do with Israel.

Platner, the anti-Israel progressive Democrat running an insurgent campaign to unseat Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins, announced he was dropping out on Wednesday in the face of a credible rape allegation, which followed reports of his toxic behavior toward women as well as social media posts downplaying sexual assault. He also had been dogged by controversy over a Nazi tattoo he sported on his chest for years, which some critics linked to his harsh criticism of Israel.

In the end, a different matter did him in. But somehow, Israel still managed to make an appearance in the discourse over Platner’s downfall — starting in his own announcement that he was suspending his campaign.

“All we were asking for was healthcare, was to end the genocide, to use our taxpayer dollars at home to uplift our communities instead of waging war overseas,” he said more than nine minutes into the 11-minute video. “We were asking for a fairer system.”

In other words, the number-two issue in Platner’s final, drawn-out campaign statement that he felt the need to reference was the accusation that Israel committed genocide in Gaza. He did not admit to the rape allegation, nor apologize to his accuser. He did criticize Israel.

He was not the only one. Far-right former GOP representative Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote — and then apparently deleted — a social media post suggesting the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC was behind the Platner rape accusation. That conspiracy theory was so widespread that the Forward ran a piece headlined, “AIPAC isn’t to blame for the Graham Platner scandal — no matter what social media trolls say.”

Liberal pundit Joy Reid said, of Platner’s potential replacement, that if the Democratic Party “shoves an AIPAC candidate down your throat, you have my permission to not vote for them”

And then there are the many races where Israel has actually taken the spotlight. It was arguably the main issue in a series of far-left victories in congressional primaries in New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Denver. It’s been a hot-button topic in the San Francisco Bay Area. And it was smack in the middle of a bitter Democratic Senate primary in Michigan. More than 70 percent of US adults said the issue of Israel was very or somewhat important to them, according to an AP poll.

Why is it that progressive candidates are seizing on Israel in races across the country, and winning? Why does it feel like Israel is the main issue in American politics, no matter where you turn? And what does that mean for American Jews?

An ‘incredibly salient’ wedge issue

It’s not just that the US recently fought a war alongside Israel, or has long been its closest ally. One answer, proffered by progressive commentators and operatives, is that support for Israel and AIPAC sits at the nexus of a set of debates dividing the Democratic Party: not just over Israel and the Palestinians but over the role of big money in politics, war in the Middle East, and the success — or lack thereof — of the Democratic leadership, which has historically supported Israel.

In other words, Israel and AIPAC are incredibly effective wedge issues for insurgent progressives looking to unseat establishment Democrats.

“You have a situation in which you have stacked these different things atop each other, like money and politics, the establishment, the failed status quo, the pro-Israel lobby,” the liberal commentator Chris Hughes said in a recent New York Times podcast interview. “So being the populist insurgent against the status quo, your criticism of Israel, your criticism of the war on Gaza, your views on that put you across these incredibly salient divides.”

Jacques Attali is a Freemason and Bilderberger. This is what Jacques Attali wrote in 1981, who was then an advisor to François Mitterrand

“The future will be about finding a way to reduce the population. We start with the old, because as soon as they exceed 60-65 years, people live longer than they produce and that costs society dearly. Then the weak, then the useless that do not help society because there will always be more of them, and above all, ultimately, the stupid. Euthanasia targeting these groups; Euthanasia will have to be an essential tool in our future societies, in all cases. Of course we will not be able to execute people or build camps. We get rid of them by making them believe that it is for their own good. Overpopulation, and mostly useless, is something that is too costly economically. Socially, too, it is much better when the human machine comes to an abrupt standstill than when it gradually deteriorates. Neither will we be able to test millions upon millions of people for their intelligence, you bet that! We will find or cause something a pandemic targeting certain people, a real economic crisis or not, a virus affecting the old or the fat, it doesn’t matter, the weak will succumb to it, the fearful and stupid will believe in it and seek treatment. We will have made sure that treatment is in place, treatment that will be the solution. The selection of idiots then takes care of itself: You go to the slaughter by yourself. “

CENTCOM sends 20 US warships — and two aircraft carriers —toward Iran after Trump threatens to reinstate naval blockade

The US is redirecting an armada of warships — including two aircraft carriers – toward Iran as President Trump threatens to reinstate the blockade on Iranian ports.

Maritime trackers on Friday spotted the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H.W. Bush entering the Gulf of Oman — a move experts in military planning say would be necessary to re-establish the blockade that crippled the Iranian economy.

“More than 20 US Navy warships are patrolling waters across the Middle East as CENTCOM forces continue promoting regional security and stability,” US Central Command posted to X this week.

Asked about restarting the blockade that choked off supplies to Tehran, CENTCOM declined to comment on “operational updates.”

The aircraft carriers were spotted within Iran’s missile range, raising their risk level, according to the trackers.

“I think forces move in and out, but generally as we get ships ready for blockade and support for strait transits, ships will get closer to Iranian threat,” Foundation for Defending Democracies senior fellow retired Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery told The Post.

Army orders mass shutdown of official social media accounts

The U.S. Army is consolidating its official social media presence, drastically slashing the number of allowable accounts and ordering commanders to remove newly-unauthorized accounts within 30 days, the service announced in a late-June memorandum.

The directive, signed by Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll, limits official social media accounts to a set list of higher-level organizations, effectively ending the digital footprints of many subordinate units.

In a Wednesday statement, the Army said the move was intended to “ensure a clear, unified voice, reduce operational risk, and improve information access for Soldiers, Families and the public.”

The service said the policy does not end documentation at the unit level and that content will be published through higher-level accounts and official Army platforms.

Exceptions to policy may be considered, the memorandum said, if they “demonstrate a mission critical imperative unmet by existing accounts or other means of communication (such as website post, email, or direct engagement).”

The Army said the policy did not affect soldiers’ personal social media accounts.

The move follows a broader push across the Defense Department to centralize military communications. Last month, Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao announced a service-wide communications strategy, arguing that the Navy is “in a fight for the narrative” against its adversaries.

The Pentagon has also sought to impose restrictions on journalists, leading The New York Times to sue over what it described as unconstitutional restrictions on the press.

Is Lionel Messi a Zionist? The Argentine soccer star’s long history with Jewish and Israeli life

Some critics of Israel have surfaced his past activities and affiliations to make the case that opposing Argentina is the anti-Zionist choice. Many Israelis, meanwhile, favor the team.

Argentine soccer icon Lionel Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, has built one of football’s most decorated careers.

Throughout his illustrious career, Messi has cultivated a measured public image, rarely commenting on politics or becoming involved in major public controversies.

But the 39-year-old has occasionally made headlines for expressing support for Jewish causes and Israeli companies - and at times for being pulled into the tense geopolitical landscape of the Middle East by no doing of his own, including when a grandmother originally from Argentina credited him for saving her life when her Israeli kibbutz was attacked on Oct. 7, 2023.

Messi’s past has roared into public view during this year’s World Cup, with Argentina playing Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Some critics of Israel have surfaced his past activities and affiliations to make the case that opposing Argentina is the anti-Zionist choice. Many Israelis, meanwhile, favor the team.

Ahead of the game, here’s a look back at 10 moments from Messi’s career - presented chronologically - where he and his fame intersected with Jewish and Israeli culture through public appearances, peace initiatives, controversies and more.

Messi's message to Argentine Maccabiah team

  1. In July 2013, Messi sent a message to the Argentine Maccabiah team, a greeting before the national delegation departed for the “Jewish Olympics” in Israel. It wasn’t the first time he demonstrated support for his country’s Jewish community - in 2011, he participated in a campaign for justice and memory of the victims of the 1994 AMIA Jewish center bombing that killed 85 people in Buenos Aires.

  1. One month later, he visited the Western Wall on a “peace tour” with Barcelona F.C., the famed Spanish team with which Messi spent the majority of his career. The club hosted skills clinics for Israeli and Palestinian children and met Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

  1. In September 2014, Messi supported a “match for peace” in Rome organized by Pope Francis to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians, but he did not play due to an injury. Fellow Argentine great Diego Maradona and Israeli player Yossi Benayoun also participated, alongside stars from Russia, Cameroon, Italy, France and Brazil.

  1. In 2016, Messi was slammed as “Jewish” and a “Zionist” by Egyptian officials after donating his soccer cleats to a charity in Egypt. Then-Egyptian Football Federation spokesman Azmi Mogahed phoned in to the show to criticize Messi: “I know he’s Jewish, he donated to Israel and visited the Wailing Wall and whatever. …We don’t need his shoes and Egypt’s poor don’t need help from someone with Jewish or Zionist citizenship.”

  1. In June 2018, Argentina’s national team canceled a friendly match with Israel’s national team following pressure from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. A boycott campaign sponsored by BDS Argentina was launched using the motto “Argentina don’t go,” or #ArgentinaNoVayas. The Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires tweeted that the match was canceled due to “the threats against Messi that logically generated the solidarity of his teammates.”

  1. Two months later, FIFA suspended the head of the Palestinian soccer body for threats against Messi. Jibril Rajoub, who had lobbied FIFA to take action against Israel, was suspended for a year after he urged supporters to burn photos and player jerseys if Messi or the Argentinian national team had shown up for the canceled friendly match.

Britain Used Palestine to Pay Off Its WWI Debt The Balfour Declaration Was a Banking Deal

In 1917, Britain wrote a 67-word letter that promised a land it didn't own, to a people who didn't live there, over the heads of those who did. That letter — the Balfour Declaration — was addressed to Lord Walter Rothschild, head of the most powerful banking dynasty in the world. But why a banker? By 1917, Britain was financially collapsing. Its national debt had exploded from £650 million to nearly £7.5 billion. Its overdraft at J.P. Morgan had hit $400 million. Woodrow Wilson was threatening to cut off American credit entirely. Britain came within weeks of being unable to pay for the war. So Britain did what desperate empires do — it made deals. It promised Palestine to the Arabs in exchange for the Arab Revolt. It secretly agreed with France to carve up the Ottoman Empire. And then it promised the same land to the Zionist movement, in a letter addressed personally to the man whose family had been financing both the British Empire and Jewish settlement in Palestine for decades. This video traces the financial crisis behind the Balfour Declaration, the Rothschild family's role in purchasing the Suez Canal and funding early colonies in Palestine, the chemistry of explosives that gave Chaim Weizmann access to the highest levels of British power, and the three contradictory promises that created a century of conflict.

"Palestine was hardly Britain's to give away." – John F. Kennedy

Study Suggests Ozempic Makes Users Docile, Social Engineers Excited About Applications

“It’s become a running joke at this point that GLP-1 drugs like semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) can help with almost everything under the Sun, not just weight loss. A study out today now suggests GLP-1s might even have the potential to curb people’s violent tendencies.

Scientists at Rutgers University examined nationally representative survey data that compared former and current GLP-1 users. In people currently taking GLP-1s, they found, the link between being impulsive and being more prone to violence was noticeably weaker. Though the team’s findings are far from certain proof that GLP-1s can reduce violent behavior, they do warrant follow-up research, the authors say.

“We view this study as a first step, not a final answer,” lead author Daniel Semenza, director of research at the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center at the Rutgers School of Public Health, told Gizmodo.”

This sedating action “may carry significant criminological implications” as behavior modification tools, according to practitioners of The Science™, whose interest in such an application piqued when they administered liraglutide to a violent autistic and it effectively neutralized him, in the same way that Ritalin was introduced in a previous era to make unruly public schoolboys sit still and receive their indoctrination peaceably.

Via Criminology:

“Growing evidence suggests that GLP-1 RAs may also influence behavioral outcomes, particularly those involving dysregulated impulse control. GLP-1 RA use has been linked to improvements in impulse control disorders…

Research regarding the behavioral effects of GLP-1 RA use may carry significant criminological implications. Although prior studies have focused on psychiatric or compulsive behaviors, the same neurobiological mechanisms, including modulation of reward sensitivity, stress regulation, and impulse control, plausibly extend to aggression and violent crime. The relationship between GLP-1 RA use and violence remains largely unexplored, but preliminary findings raise the possibility of an inverse relationship. Vestlund et al. (2022) reported that repeated administration of exendin-4, a GLP-1 RA analog, was associated with reduced aggression in male mice, potentially through modulation of serotonin and noradrenaline signaling. A case study by Järvinen et al. (2019) described reductions in aggressive behavior in a 20-year-old man with autism spectrum disorder following treatment with liraglutide. Although these findings are limited in both scope and generalizability, they provide preliminary support for the plausibility of a link between GLP-1 RA use and aggression-related outcomes.”

European Parliament Imposes Mass Electronic Surveillance Regulation After a Majority Votes it Down Three Times

That title is polemical, okay? But it’s morally right.

If anybody cares, what actually happened is that an extension of the European Union’s mass surveillance regulation known as Chat Control 1.0 failed to make it out of the European Parliament twice in March. Unable to summon a clear parliamentary majority, advocates (mostly in the centre-Right European People’s Party (EPP)) turned to the European Council, which adopted the failed Chat Control 1.0 renewal on July 2nd. The Council’s position hardens automatically into law unless the European Parliament can summon an absolute majority to stop it. To forestall any such majority from forming, the EPP on Tuesday moved with member state backing for urgent procedure, angling to force their scheme through in the last days before the summer holiday, after many MEPs had already left. The parliament narrowly approved the urgent procedure, and in consequence there were not enough votes to stop Chat Control 1.0 when it came for a vote today. Hours ago, a majority of 314 MEPs voted to stop Chat Control against the wishes of the Council, while a minority of 276 voted to let it happen. Because 314 is less than the absolute majority of 361, Chat Control 1.0 passed even though most MEPs present didn’t want it to.

It was a sleazy vote, not least because it’s far from clear this procedural manoeuvre was even appropriate in this case. Also, electronic surveillance is bad, but if we are honest with ourselves this battle was already lost.

Chat Control 1.0 was first instated in 2021 as a temporary exemption to the ePrivacy Directive of the EU, allowing messaging services and online platforms to scan chats and other electronic communications for child sexual abuse material. The exemption expired in April, but various platforms have continued their surveillance with no legal basis in the intervening months. Now their formal permission to scan our private communications has been restored and extended through April 2028. We are, in other words, merely returning to the prior regime.

Chat Control 1.0 is a temporary stopgap while the European Parliament, the Commission and the Council try to negotiate their Child Sexual Abuse Regulation, or Chat Control 2.0. As envisioned by the Commission, this permanent law would not merely allow platforms to scan private communications for child sex abuse material, but require them to do so; would require additional AI-assisted automated scanning not only for known child pornography but also for such vaguely defined activities as ‘grooming’; and would extend scanning to end-to-end encrypted services like Signal via mandatory monitoring on the client side. This insane proposal has been watered down over the years, in large part because of parliamentary opposition, but it’s coming in some form. We’re getting Chat Control 2.0 before Chat Control 1.0 expires, and Chat Control 2.0 will be at least somewhat worse.

What ceasefire? People still being killed and Gaza still under siege

As Jillian Segal denied the undeniable at the Bondi Royal Commission this week, not much is changing in Gaza, and Trump’s Board of Peace stands by idly

In a move that’s been largely unreported here, Hamas announced earlier this week that it would dissolve its governing Emergency Committee with the resignation of its acting leader.

This move has been recognised as an attempt to hasten the transfer of administrative authority to the Trump-appointed Board of Peace’s National Committee for the Management of Gaza (NCAG), a body of Palestinian technocrats, assembled and waiting in Cairo to manage public administration, security, recovery and transition throughout the Gaza Strip as part of the agreed ceasefire plan.

However, despite being established in January this year, the NCAG has not yet been given access to enter Gaza by the Board of Peace or Israel.

Trump’s controversial Board of Peace predictably dismissed Hamas’ move, stating that the NCAG is not yet in a position to take on this role while Hamas retains control of weapons. Hamas maintains that while Israel is still killing Palestinians, it will not disarm.

Nine months since the Gaza ceasefire and Trump’s 20-point peace plan of October 2025, conditions throughout the Strip have remained unlivable and deadly for Palestinians, with more than 1000 killed by Israeli forces and more than 3,500 injured.

Parents stay awake all night in their tents to stop rats feeding on their children.

The amount of humanitarian aid is far short of what is required, and there is a trickle of medical evacuations despite some 16,500 Palestinians needing urgent medical transfer out of Gaza.

A Board of inaction

The UN Security Council supported the establishment of the Board of Peace in November last year, noting that it would be temporary and transitional, although Trump subsequently declared it would address other world conflicts beyond Gaza.

The composition of the Board of Peace Executive and the Gaza Executive Board includes a number of Trump’s leadership team, plus other Republican operatives, wealthy U.S.businessmen and real estate magnates, as well as Tony Blair.

Donald Trump – Chairman for life

Marco Rubio – U.S. Secretary of State

Jared Kushner – U.S. presidential advisor and son-in-law

Steve Witkoff – U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East

Tony Blair – Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Marc Rowan – CEO of Apollo Global Management

Ajay Banga – President of the World Bank Group
