Hunter Biden Awarded $1.7 Million in Defamation Case Against Trump-Supporting Former Overstock CEO

A federal judge has awarded Hunter Biden $1.7 million in punitive damages plus additional sanctions against former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne over statements he had made linking the Biden family to an alleged scheme involving Iranian assets and the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks.
The ruling, handed down on Friday by District Judge Stephen Wilson in California, came after Byrne repeatedly stood by claims that Hunter Biden had pledged to influence his father, then-President Joe Biden, to unfreeze $8 billion in Iranian assets in exchange for an $800 million bribe.
The judge found that Byrne’s comments went beyond protected speech and showed intent to harm Hunter Biden’s reputation.
Byrne continued to stand by the allegations throughout the lawsuit, a point the judge took issue with in his ruling.
The ruling stated, in part:
“Here, the evidence is clear and convincing that defendant has engaged in intentional misrepresentation with conscious disregard towards plaintiff’s rights. Defendant’s defamation went far beyond mere negligence. In fact, defendant has admitted that after the offending article was published, defendant repeatedly reposted the article across social media platforms and encouraged his followers on those platforms to promote it further. In fact, during the pendency of this litigation, even while Defendant was defying the Court’s orders and failing to appear at hearings, Defendant appeared on talk shows and restated the same defamatory statements at issue in the case.”
Byrne initially made the allegations in a June 2023 interview and then amplified them on social media on October 8, 2023, the day after the Hamas attacks on Israel.
“The clear implication of Byrne’s October 8, 2023 posts was that Plaintiff’s allegedly criminal and corrupt actions had contributed to the terrorist attacks by Hamas,” the complaint, obtained by Mediaite, had stated.
Byrne alleged that Hunter Biden had brokered a corrupt deal involving Iranian money and implied that this corruption played a role in enabling the terrorist attacks.
Hunter Biden’s legal team argued that these claims were baseless and designed to damage his reputation at a time when the former president’s family was already under intense scrutiny over foreign business dealings.
Judge Wilson awarded the full $1.7 million in punitive damages that Hunter sought, along with $1 in nominal damages and roughly $35,000 in court sanctions against Byrne for his conduct during the litigation, including defying court orders and failing to appear at hearings while publicly repeating the claims.
Byrne, a longtime conservative activist and vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, became the target of the lawsuit after his comments gained traction in certain circles.
Hunter’s business dealings in Ukraine through Burisma, his work in China, and the contents of his abandoned laptop have led to a string of allegations that he engaged in influence peddling during his father’s time in office.
Bryan Sullivan, an attorney for Biden, told Courthouse News that, “This is a complete vindication for Hunter Biden against the false statements made about him by Patrick Byrne.”
“As found by the court, Byrne had no basis to say that Hunter had any involvement with Iran whatsoever,” Sullivan added.
Byrne has not publicly responded to the judge’s ruling.

Federal agents have served subpoenas on four New York Times reportersafter the paper published sensitive details about alleged security shortcomings in President Trump’s new Air Force One, the spectacular Boeing 747-8 gifted to the United States by the government of Qatar.
The reporters hit with subpoenas, Julian E. Barnes, Eric Lipton, Tyler Pager, and Eric Schmitt,must now testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan this Wednesday.
The journalists recently published articles reporting that President Donald Trumpcontinued using the older Air Force One during one trip because of security concerns and that the Qatari-donated Boeing 747-8 lacked some of the advanced defensive systems installed on the current presidential aircraft.
The stories cited anonymous sources familiar with sensitive national security matters.
According to The New York Times, the subpoenas were issued as part of an investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive government information.
The subpoenas reportedly direct the journalists to testify regarding a violation of federal criminal law.
David McCraw, the newspaper’s deputy general counsel, condemned the move.
“The appearance of federal law enforcement agents on the doorstep of news reporters should shock the conscience of any American who believes in the Constitution and the press freedom it protects.
“Our journalists report the facts and advance the American public’s right to know how their government is operating and their taxpayer dollars are being used.”
McCraw described the subpoenas as “a brazen act” and argued they were intended to intimidate journalists and discourage reporting on government activities(they endangered the President, it’s not intimidation it’s a serious warning)
What’s truly brazen is a major newspaper publishing operational security details about the aircraft that carries the President of the United States, especially while Iran has Trump at the top of its assassination target list.
According to reports published Thursday by the Wall Street Journal, Israeli intelligence recently alerted U.S. officialsto a specific assassination plot targeting President Trump.
The revelation comes as President Trump has openly acknowledged the ongoing threats against his life while attending the NATO summit in Türkiye.
Trump went on to announce that he would not be flying on Air Force One back to the United States, prompting speculation of security concerns.
The White House Press Pool was advised to keep the window shades on Air Force One closed while en route to the United States after taking off from Ankara, Turkey, at 8:43 pm local time.
President Trump was seen boarding the old Air Force One jet en route to the US.
Publishing specific details about what security systems may or may not be on Air Force One is reckless, especially at a time when threats from Iran and other adversaries remain real.

Abdul El-Sayed: Medicare for All Will End White Privilege in Our Healthcare System

Far-left Muslim Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed argued that black and Arab patients are routinely treated differently in the healthcare system because they are more likely to rely on government-funded insurance, which he said pays providers less than private plans.
Speaking in support of Medicare for All, El-Sayed said the current reimbursement system effectively places a lower value on care for minority patients, pointing to black children as an example.
“Right now in our country, the vast majority of people of color are funded on government health insurance programs that do not reimburse at the same level as private health insurance,” El-Sayed stated. “So we basically are saying that in our country, care provided for a black child, for example, is reimbursed at nearly half the rate as a white child. We’re basically valuing that child’s body differently.”
El-Sayed said the lower reimbursement rates can lead to discrimination during treatment, adding that he has witnessed it firsthand.
“Now, the challenge when your health care is not reimbursed at the same level is that you end up getting discriminated against at the point of care. And I’ve seen that with my own eyes. It is heart-wrenching,” El-Sayed continued. “But if you have the security of Medicare in your back pocket, no matter who you are, the system doesn’t discriminate against you, because your body commands the same quality of care, the same reimbursement rate as anybody else. It removes that profit incentive.”
He said he believes a Medicare for All system would eliminate those disparities by giving every patient the same coverage and reimbursement rate.
“I have seen too many people from communities where they look like you or look like me being discriminated against at the point of care because of the health care that they have. I want to end that. Medicare for All would end that.”

Federal Judge Denies DOJ an Injunction Against CA Glock Ban

U.S. District Judge Monica Ramirez Almadani denied the DOJ’s request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) against California’s Glock ban on July 9, 2026.
Breitbart News reported that Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon announced the lawsuit on July 1, 2026.
In a DOJ press release, Dhillon said, “The Civil Rights Division will defend law-abiding citizens from states that seek to disarm them illegally. This lawsuit is yet another example of this Justice Department enforcing the Second Amendment by protecting citizens against unconstitutional state regulation of firearms.”
But on Thursday, Judge Almadani deniedthe TRO request, saying in part that the law “includes carveouts for the transfer of machine-gun convertible pistols under various circumstances…[so] it is not clear that California citizens are prohibited outright from acquiring Glock and Glock-style pistols.”
The DOJ has not said whether it plans to appeal.

Russia has carried out high-precision strikes on Ukrainian military-industrial facilities in Kiev, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has reported.
In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry saidRussian forces carried out overnight strikes on the Aerodron facility in Kiev, which manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The strikes also hit Fanplit facilities, where Fire Point-2 UAVs are assembled and stored. The location had beendisguised as a civilian plywood and furniture manufacturing plant, the ministry added.
The MOD also reported strikes on the ports of Izmail, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhny in Odessa Region,describing them as key logistics hubs used by the Ukrainian armed forces. The targets included fuel storage facilities, military cargo warehouses, weapons and equipment storage sites, and port infrastructure used to support Ukrainian military operations.
The evaluation of the ongoing long-range strikes has confirmed thatRussian weaponry maintains the ability to “reliably penetrate any anti-aircraft air or missile defense systems provided to [Vladimir] Zelensky by Western sponsors,” the MOD said in a separate statement later in the day. The country’s long-range strike capabilities are not focused exclusively on the “targets in the supposedly best-defended Kiev,” with the troops continuing to hit designated locations throughout Ukraine, as well as in the Black Sea on “assorted ships carrying weapons and military hardware for the Zelensky regime,” the ministry added.
According to the Defense Ministry, the overnight barrage was carried out inresponse to terrorist attacks by Kiev against Russian civilian infrastructure.

Moscow condemns vandalism of Soviet WWII cemetery in the Netherlands

Russia has condemned the defacing of gravestones at a Soviet World War II military cemetery in the Netherlands.
The war memorial and around 150 gravestones marking the graves of POWs killed by the Nazis were vandalized with red paint in the town of Leusden on Friday.
They were defaced with neo-Nazi, white supremacist and anti-Communist slogans, as well as insults directed at Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.
“There is no justification for such acts of vandalism,” the Russian Embassy in The Hague told RIA Novosti.
Dutch Defense Minister Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius denounced the vandalism as “completely unacceptable.”
“War graves are a final resting place and deserve respect,” she said on X.
A total of 865 Soviet soldiers are buried at the cemetery, including 101 POWs who died of starvation or were executed by the Nazis at the nearby Amersfoort concentration camp.
The cemetery in Leusden was previously targeted by vandals in November 2021.
Multiple monuments to Soviet soldiers have been vandalized or demolished across Europesince the Ukraine conflict broke out in February 2022. Russian embassies and consulates have also been targeted by vandals.
In August 2022, authorities in Riga dismantled the iconic 79-meter obelisk built in honor of the Soviet troops who liberated Latvia from Nazi Germany.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the destruction of the memorial “unacceptable for a civilized country.”
