Galaxy NGC 474: Shells and Star Streams

What's happening to galaxy NGC 474? The multiple layers of emission appear strangely complex given the relatively featureless appearance of the elliptical galaxy in less deep images. The cause of the shells is a topic of research, but they are possibly tidal tails related to debris left over from absorbing numerous small galaxies in the past billion years. Alternatively, the shells may be like ripples in a pond, where the ongoing collision with the spiral galaxy just to the right of NGC 474 is causing density waves to ripple through the galactic giant. Regardless of the actual cause, the featured image dramatically highlights the increasing evidence that the halos of some elliptical galaxies are surprisingly complicated. Similarly, the halo of our own Milky Way Galaxy is one example of such unexpected intricacies. NGC 474 spans about 250,000 light years and lies about 100 million light years distant toward the constellation of the Fish (Pisces).

Parma Jeep Driver Rips Through NASA Gate, Winds Up In Hospital And Cuffs

July 12, 2026

A 23-year-old Parma woman is facing serious trouble after allegedly steering a Jeep Wrangler straight through a closed gate at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Brook Park last Tuesday, slamming into a metal fence and triggering a swift security and police response.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene, taken to a hospital, and later arrested.

According to Cleveland.com, security guards and video show the Jeep heading northbound through the center’s controlled-access gate before smashing into the metal fence. The driver then ran from guards.

Officers later found the woman lying on a stretcher, and paramedics transported her to Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, where she received medical treatment and a psychological evaluation, the report said.

What Happened At Glenn

The John H. Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field, at 21000 Brookpark Road, is a controlled-access federal site with identification checks and traffic rules for anyone coming through the gates.

NASA Glenn Research Center publishes the ground rules for visitors and vehicles, laying out how people are expected to enter, exit and move around the facility.

Security Standards For Vehicle Access

Federal entry-control points typically lean on heavy-duty hardware like crash-rated gates, bollards and other anti-ram barriers to stop or at least slow vehicles that should not be getting through.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintains guidance and an approved list of anti-ram systems for the Department of Defense and other federal facilities.

Those standards, which are based on ASTM F2656 testing, help determine what kind of security hardware belongs at guarded access points like the ones at Glenn.

Cleveland.com reported that the driver is a 23-year-old Parma resident, and noted that it was not clear as of the outlet’s latest update whether prosecutors had filed formal charges.

According to the story, Brook Park police and Glenn Center security have not released additional details beyond describing the medical response and the woman’s arrest.

FCC clears space mirror despite fierce backlash

Jul 12, 2026 8:42 am

Reflect Orbital can test a giant orbiting mirror meant to beam sunlight to Earth after dark

The Federal Communications Commission(FCC) has cleared a California startup to launch a satellite carrying a giant mirror designed to reflect sunlight onto Earth after dark, despite thousands of objections from scientists who warn the technology could permanently alter the night sky.

A single test satellite gets the green light

The FCC granted Reflect Orbital permission to launch its Earendil-1 satellite into low Earth orbit, where it will unfurl a steerable reflector roughly 60 feet wide.

Once deployed about 400 miles above Earth, the mirror is meant to bounce sunlight onto a patch of ground several miles wide, with the beam requiring repositioning every few minutes to stay on target.

Reflect Orbital says the technology could eventually power solar farms after sunset, extend working hours at construction sites and provide emergency lighting for search and rescue crews, including recent requests tied to earthquake relief efforts in Venezuela.

A much bigger vision behind one satellite

This approval covers only a single demonstration satellite, but Reflect Orbital’s ambitions extend far beyond it.

The company has said it eventually wants to deploy tens of thousands of mirrors, with some plans citing a fleet of more than 50,000 satellites by the early 2030s, some measuring nearly 180 feet across and reflecting as much light as 100 full moons.

The FCC’s order applies solely to the initial test flight, not the larger constellation, though critics argue the smaller approval still sets a precedent for what may follow.

Scientists warn of lasting damage

The application drew close to 1,900 public comments, the overwhelming majority opposed.

The American Astronomical Society told the FCC the project could not be considered in the public interest, warning of risks to federally funded observatories, potential eye damage for amateur astronomers using telescopes, and temporary blinding flashes that could distract pilots and drivers.

A researcher affiliated with a major observatory project cautioned that Reflect Orbital’s full vision could prove even more disruptive than existing satellite broadband constellations, describing a future sky crowded with artificial light sources.

International observatory groups have separately estimated that a full scale deployment could raise background sky brightness at some research sites several times over, severely limiting the ability to detect faint objects in space.

Concerns reach beyond astronomy

Opposition to the plan has not been limited to scientists studying the stars.

Environmental groups and wildlife experts have warned that sustained nighttime illumination could disrupt circadian rhythms in humans, animals and plants alike, the natural light and dark cycles that govern sleep, migration and reproduction.

Critics have also raised the possibility that sensitive equipment, including research telescope detectors and satellite mounted cameras, could be damaged by intense reflected light.

Regulators say the concerns fall outside their authority

In approving the license, the FCC said its role is largely limited to managing radio spectrum use and ensuring satellites do not interfere with other communications or pose safety risks during deployment.

The agency concluded that broader questions about environmental and health effects fall outside its jurisdiction, noting that federal environmental reviews generally apply to activities on Earth rather than in space.

Even if it had the authority to weigh those concerns, the commission said, the harms tied to a single test satellite were unlikely to materialize at meaningful scale.

Reflect Orbital’s chief executive said the license marks an important first step toward testing the company’s technology and the safeguards built into it.

Not the first attempt at artificial sunlight

The concept of reflecting sunlight onto Earth is not new.

A Russian satellite carrying a large mirror briefly beamed a narrow strip of sunlight over Siberia in the early 1990s, part of an experiment aimed at extending daylight hours in the Arctic.

That program was abandoned less than a decade later following a failed follow up test, a reminder that ambitious plans to manipulate light in orbit have a mixed track record.

For now, Reflect Orbital plans to launch its test satellite later this year, with the company saying it intends to work with federal science agencies and outside researchers to study the technology’s real world effects before pursuing any larger deployment.

Starship's Thirteenth Flight Test

July 16, 2026 17:45 - 19:15 PT

The thirteenth flight test of Starship is preparing to launch as soon as Thursday, July 16. The 90-minute launch window will open at 5:45 p.m. CT.

A live webcast of the flight test will begin about 30 minutes before liftoff, which you can watch here and on X @SpaceX.

As is the case with all developmental testing, the schedule is dynamic and likely to change, so be sure to check in here and stay tuned to our X account for updates.

The upcoming flight will aim to complete similar objectives targeted on the previous flight test, which debuted the Starship and Super Heavy V3 vehicles, while also carrying next-generation Starlink V3 satellites for the first time.

Watch “Critical Path”, the latest episode in the ongoing Starship series that followed SpaceX engineers and technicians through the final days before launch of the first Starship V3.

The booster’s primary test objective will be executing a successful launch, ascent, stage separation, boostback burn, and landing burn at an offshore landing point in the Gulf of America.

There have been several modifications to hardware and software to address issues seen on the previous flight.

At stage separation on Flight 12, slight differences in engine startup on the ship caused the directional flip of the booster to be off by approximately 90 degrees.

The startup sequence has been modified to be more robust to timing variability and more reliably flip in the desired direction, which is done to increase overall performance.

After stage separation and the flip, the Super Heavy booster attempted its boostback burn. Five of its 33 engines experienced issues when attempting to re-light causing the boostback burn to end early.

The Super Heavy on this upcoming flight has hardware modifications to improve re-light reliability along with updates to engine alarms and aborts to match the conditions seen in the multi-engine flight environment.

The Starship upper stage’s primary objectives include the deployment of 20 Starlink V3 satellites, a relight of a single Raptor engine while in space, and another controlled entry, descent, and splashdown in the Indian Ocean.

There have also been several modifications to Starship’s propulsion system to address the engine out issue experienced on the previous flight.

Approximately 40 seconds after stage separation, Starship lost one of its three Raptor vacuum optimized engines. The vehicle was able to demonstrate its engine out capability and reach its planned suborbital trajectory.

Several hardware and operational modifications have been made to address the interconnected causes with additional reliability improvements planned in upcoming versions of the Raptor engine.

For the first time, Starship will carry V3 Starlink satellites to space, which aim to greatly expand the network's capacity and user speeds.

As part of this initial test, Starship is planned to deploy 20 satellites which will extend solar arrays and antennas and will attempt to connect with the larger Starlink constellation via high-capacity lasers.

The Starlink satellites will be on the same suborbital trajectory as Starship and are expected to demise upon reentry approximately 20 minutes after deployment.

Six of the satellites have been modified with a suite of cameras to scan Starship’s heat shield and transmit imagery down to operators to continue testing methods of analyzing Starship’s heat shield readiness for return to launch site on future missions.

Several tiles on Starship have been painted white to simulate missing tiles and serve as imaging targets in the test.

Several upgrades and experiments related to Starship’s heatshield will also be tested to continue iteration towards a fully and rapidly reusable design.

Multiple tiles will be attached to the metallic side of Starship’s aft flaps along with modified tiles and attachment mechanisms in the heatshield covering the aft skirt to gather flight data on different attachment options.

Finally, Starship’s heatshield will have load sensing tiles to take measurements as the vehicle experiences higher dynamic pressure on ascent than previous flights, putting added stress on the tile attachments in exchange for increased payload to orbit capability.

Donbass civilians recount horrors of life under Ukrainian occupation

11 Jul, 2026 18:14

Refugees from the recently-liberated city of Konstantinovka have told RT’s Roman Kosarev that Kiev’s forces were using them as human shields

Civilians from the recently-liberated Donbass city of Konstantinovka have shared their harrowing stories of abuse at the hands of Ukrainian troops exclusively with RT’s Roman Kosarev.

By contrast, Russian forces helped evacuees to navigate their way to safety, at times risking life and limb.

The Russian military announced last Friday that its forces had seized the heavily fortified Ukrainian stronghold, which is part of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk-Konstantinovka agglomeration in the northwest of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

Commenting on the development, President Vladimir Putin said that Konstantinovka is the “key to liberating the entire” region.

On Saturday, RT correspondent Kosarev visited the city of Gorlovka, where several temporary accommodation centers for refugees from the locality had been set up.

He spoke with some of the civilians who had managed to make it out of Konstantinovka alive and reached Russian positions.

According to multiple refugees, the Ukrainian military routinely used them as human shields and set up firing positions near their homes while the city was still under Kiev’s control.

Ukrainian troops viewed residents who remained in the city as potential traitors, with men also living in constant dread of being forcibly mobilized, RT’s correspondent heard. Kiev’s forces would strike houses where civilians were holed up with kamikaze drones, according to the refugees’ testimonies.

Cases of pillage were also an everyday occurrence in Konstantinovka, with Ukrainian military personnel taking pretty much anything they wanted from any house, the survivors recounted.

Refugees also expressed gratitude to Russian service members, who took personal risks to help evacuate them from the danger zone.

Drones proved particularly useful in guiding civilians toward relatively safer positions, where they were greeted by Russian troops.

‘Burning children alive’: Russia releases files on WWII-era Ukrainian massacres of Poles

10 Jul, 2026 23:53 | Updated 11 Jul, 2026 05:32

The UPA insurgents behind the ethnic cleansing campaign in Volhynia are hailed as heroes in modern-day Ukraine

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has released newly declassified documents detailing the massacre of Poles by Ukrainian nationalist militias during World War II in what is now western Ukraine.

The release comes as Poland marks its National Day of Remembrance on Saturday honoring the victims of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), the armed wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN).

The ethnic cleansing campaign in the Volhynia region between 1943 and 1944 claimed the lives of at least 100,000 civilians, according to Polish estimates.

Poland recognizes these tragic events as a genocide. Ukraine, however, celebrates the UPA as freedom fighters, a stance that has led to a high-profile diplomatic dispute between the neighboring countries.

The Soviet archival files released by Russia describe the activities of the OUN unit led by Dmytro Kupyak, known by the nom de guerre Kley, who is believed to have been responsible for killing at least 200 Polish and Soviet nationals, as well as burning and looting eight villages.

On May 16, 1944, during a raid on the village of Kupche, Kley’s unit killed residents “solely because they were ethnic Poles,” the files say.

On August 17 that year, the nationalists raided the village of Grabovo, where they locked nine women and children in a shed before burning them alive.

One of Kupyak’s former associates, Andrey Moroz, described him in a Soviet court as a “simple bandit” without any ideological convictions.

After the war, Kupyak fled to Canada, where he ran a restaurant in Toronto until his death in 1995. In the 1960s, the Canadian government denied Soviet requests to extradite him.

The OUN collaborated with Nazi Germany during the early stages of the invasion of the Soviet Union and participated in anti-Jewish pogroms.

The UPA was created in 1942 after the OUN split with the Germans. Many UPA members were defectors from Nazi-led units, including its eventual leader, Roman Shukhevich, who had previously served as deputy commander of the Nachtigall Battalion.

Last month, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky of Poland’s highest honor, the Order of the White Eagle, after Zelensky named one of Ukraine’s commando units after “heroes of the UPA.”

Several Ukrainian officials responded by returning their own Polish decorations to Warsaw.

Ukrainian Drones Strike Syzran Oil Refinery and Russian Tanker

July 12, 2026, 9:48 am

In brief: Early Sunday morning, July 12, unmanned aerial vehicles targeted multiple Russian-controlled facilities, resulting in fires at the Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara region and aboard a tanker in the Don-Azov Canal.

Preliminary data suggests FP-1 drones may have damaged the crucial ELOU-AVT-5 unit at the Syzran refinery, a major Rosneft facility that processes up to 8.5 million tons of oil annually.

Simultaneously, Rostov region Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed a drone strike on an empty tanker in the canal, claiming air defenses downed over 20 drones in the area.

A wave of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks targeted key Russian energy and maritime logistics infrastructure overnight Saturday-Sunday (July 11-12) igniting fires at a major oil refinery in the Samara region and aboard a tanker in the Don-Azov Canal.

According to reports from the Exilenova+ Telegram channel, drones struck the Syzran Oil Refinery, a facility located deep inside Russian territory in the Samara region. Local residents posted video footage online showing a significant fire burning on the territory of the industrial plant.

Preliminary assessments from OSINT analysts indicate the facility was targeted by FP-1 drones, with suggestions that the strike may have damaged the ELOU-AVT-5 unit.

This installation is critical to the plant’s operations, responsible for up to 30% of the refinery’s primary oil processing capacity.

The Syzran Oil Refinery, integrated into the structure of the state-controlled Rosneft corporation, is one of the largest petroleum processing enterprises in the Samara region.

The plant processes between 7 and 8.5 million tons of crude oil annually, producing gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, and other petrochemical products.

Sunday’s attack marks the third time the Syzran facility has been targeted this year, following previous strikes on April 18 and May 11, which Reuters reported temporarily halted operations at the plant.

Russian authorities have not yet officially confirmed Sunday’s strike on the refinery or commented on the extent of the damage.

Maritime strikes continue in Rostov region

Yuri Slyusar, governor of Russia’s Rostov region, confirmed that a drone attacked a tanker navigating the Don-Azov Canal.

The governor stated that the targeted vessel was empty at the time of the strike and that emergency crews had managed to localize the resulting fire. No casualties have been reported from the incident.

Slyusar also claimed that Russian air defense systems were active, purportedly intercepting over 20 Ukrainian drones across the Rostov region.

The strike in the Don-Azov Canal is part of a coordinated Ukrainian offensive in the Azov Sea and the Gulf of Taganrog that began earlier in the week.

Throughout the week, Ukrainian forces have targeted Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” – a network of vessels operating outside international sanctions to export Russian petroleum products and generate revenue for Moscow’s military.

On July 9, Governor Slyusar reported that two tankers were damaged and set ablaze by UAVs in the Taganrog Bay.

This followed a Ukrainian operation that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine claimed resulted in the destruction of 12 Russian tankers in the Sea of Azov.

According to the General Staff, these vessels were actively supplying fuel to Russian military units and illegally exporting petroleum products.

ORBITAL ESCALATION Signs Putin is plotting SPACE war from nukes in orbit to stalking Brit satellites… & disastrous fallout that may follow

11:28, 12 Jul 2026

VLADIMIR Putin’s warmongering has soared to new heights – threatening to deploy nukes in space and spark all-out war.

From satellite stalking to “shrapnel cloud” missiles, experts say an orbital conflict is a real threat – because Vlad has so little to lose.

Victoria Sampson, chief director of space security and stability at the Secure World Foundation, told The Sun: “It’s very possible that Russia could start a war in space.

“There are intelligence reports that Russia is thought to be working on a nuclear warhead that if it were to be put into space on a satellite would be a very crude but extremely effective anti-satellite weapon.”

If the Russians detonated a nuke in low orbit, it would likely destroy more than 80 per cent of the satellites in space.

It could also wipe out internet, mobile phone signal and GPS for much of the world.

Head of US Space Command General Stephen Whiting told The Times he is “very concerned” about the Kremlin’s nuclear plan.

In recent years, the Kremlin has demonstrated its ability to use dangerous high velocity co-orbital space capabilities.

Moscow could use its own satellite as a weapon by deploying one up close to another country’s satellite.

When in range, Putin’s crack space hit squad could then release objects at a high velocity to target the rival satellite.

“It’s basically like spraying it with bullets or a gun,” Victoria said. “The idea is you can send a message to another country saying ‘hey, if you’re going to be interfering with us, we can shoot down one of your satellites’.”

But Victoria believes war-hungry Putin would only start a war in space as “an end of days ‘Putin in the bunker’ type of scenario”.

Despite this, Victoria warns that there are already key signs Putin may be willing to take war to space.

“Russia has demonstrated the ability to blow up its own satellites in orbit from another satellite that’s in orbit,” she explained.

“They’ve also been able to launch an interceptor from the ground to directly hit a satellite to show off destructive counter space capabilities.

“They definitely are already doing jamming and sweeping. “The jamming is interfering with any kind of electronic broadcasting and sweeping is basically swapping out information that’s being broadcast.

“And Russia’s very good about interfering with GPS. We’re seeing a lot of situations where civil aviation is having a trouble using GPS because it’s interfered with in the Baltics.”

Victoria admits she is fearful of Russia’s space plans due to how little they have to lose should they strike first.

Moscow has just 370 satellites up in space compared to the US who have about 11,000 and China who have around 1,000.

Russia is currently involved with the national space station, meaning they have researchers on the International Space Station (ISS).

But the ISS is expected to go out of service within the next five or six years – and it leaves Russia with no space base to test or station scientists.

Victoria said: “Russia used to be a global space power but its currently a failing state.

“Their civil space systems are going through corruption and quality control issues. They don’t have a commercial space sector to speak of.

“But I think it could be more of an incentive for Russia to interfere with space because they have less to lose in terms of numbers.

“They have a lot less physical infrastructure in space that could be interfered with, lowering the impact of a conflict.”

The discrepancy between Russia’s space capabilities and their superpower rivals has a second advantage.

Victoria said: “Space is really important for a lot of countries as a national security enabler but the more countries depend upon space, the more of an incentive it is for their adversaries to deny, degrade, disrupt, destroy, or somehow intervene with our ability to use space.”

Last year, British Space Command boss Major General Paul Tedman warned that Russia had been trying to jam the UK’s military satellites on a weekly basis.

Putin has also been eavesdropping on satellites used by European armies, Germany’s defence minister said.

Back in May, Putin was even accused of knocking out the GPS signal of an RAF jet carrying the then-UK Defence Secretary John Healey.

Victoria continued: “The West is definitely taking these sort of threats of space capabilities seriously.

“That’s why you’re seeing such an increase in terms of countries creating their own military space organisations.”

The Kremlin has refused to respond to any of the allegations.

Victoria says this is likely part of Putin’s grand plan to try and pull off small attacks to build up knowledge before striking big.

She said: “I think at the start of a conflict, we wouldn’t necessarily see physically destructive stuff.

“I think what we’d see is, frankly, what we’ve already been seeing, cyber attacks and things like jamming or spoofing.

“So [if Putin was to start a space war] I think we’d start to see an increase in jamming, spoofing, cyber attacks.

“The more kinetic type things and more physically destructive stuff are very easy to understand who did it so those are pretty escalatory.

“I think the kinetic type things could come but only if there’s actually a ground conflict alongside it between Russia and one of its adversaries, like the United States.”

Brunswick Wildfire operations halted after drone flies into firefighting airspace

Jul 12, 2026 | 8:17 AM

BOSTON BAR — The BC Wildfire Service is reminding residents that they cannot fly while unauthorized items are in the sky with them.

On Saturday, July 11, BCWS said a drone had been operating near the southeast flank of the Brunswick Creek wildfire as multiple aviation resources were in the same place.

When this happens, crews are obligated to stop flying immediately until the airspace is confirmed safe.

“Our pilots operate low-flying aircraft in challenging conditions and often at high speeds,” said the BCWS. “A collision between a drone and a firefighting aircraft could have catastrophic consequences.”

All wildfires are considered flight-restricted areas under federal law, including areas within five nautical miles of a fire and up to 3,000 feet above ground level.

Anyone operating a drone or other unmanned aerial vehicle can be fined a maximum of $25,000 and/or sent to jail for up to 18 months. Intentional interference with wildfire efforts can yield up to $100,000 in fines and/or imprisonment.

BCWS urges folks who see a drone or UAV flying near a wildfire to report immediately by calling *5555 or 1-800-663-5555.

Trump UFO speech, Okinawa sighting, and Burlison on the Brazil case

Jul 12, 2026

Key takeaways:

Rumors of a Trump UAP disclosure speech spread online, but the White House has denied the claims.

Witnesses reported glowing orange orbs over the sea in Okinawa, with no confirmed explanation so far.

Eric Burlison is pushing the FBI and CIA to release any records tied to the 1996 Varginha, Brazil incident.

Claims of an imminent Trump UFO announcement, unexplained lights over Okinawa, and a renewed push to uncover records from Brazil's infamous Varginha incident headline this week's biggest UAP stories.

There’s talk in the UFO community that President Trump is gearing up for a momentous speech acknowledging historical UFO incidents involving “non-human origin” craft.

British filmmaker and UFO researcher Mark Christopher Lee has claimed the speech is “written and ready,” suggesting it could coincide with a major political event. The White House has rejected any such claims, reported The Daily Star.

According to Lee, the speech would revisit seminal UFO cases, including the 1947 Roswell incident, the 2004 USS Nimitz "Tic Tac" encounter, and the 2015 East Coast Navy sightings.

Lee claims the draft would “announce declassification steps plus international cooperation.”

One of the speech's most extraordinary alleged claims is that recovered entities from crashed UFOs underwent forensic testing that found they were "not from Earth."

The rumor gained traction, most likely because July 2nd to 8th is the anniversary of the Roswell UFO incident, one of the more significant in the UFO archives, and even played a significant role in Steven Spielberg's recent box-office smash Disclosure Day.

As per his post on X, Lee considered all of this "soft disclosure” – though that remains debatable. His post is here:

Okinawa witnesses report glowing orange orbs

A handful of witnesses in the Okinawa region of Japan have reportedly seen bright orange lights levitating over the ocean, in an ephemeral viewing, prompting UFO supposition in the area.

According to the Okinawa Times, one witness initially feared an aircraft crash, as the object resembled a burning vehicle as it remained somewhat stationary.

However, the craft subsequently split into two lights before separating and traversing in the same direction, with witnesses observing that it didn’t resemble a conventional aircraft.

The object reportedly split into two lights before separating and continuing in the same direction, behavior witnesses said it did not resemble a conventional aircraft.

When another witness came forward reporting seeing one to three orange objects appear and disappear over the sea during the same period, Japanese news outlets and even space agencies got involved.

Former Ishigaki Astronomical Observatory director Takeshi Miyaji said: "There are no stars this bright in the southeast at this time of day."

Miyaji suggested atmospheric conditions could exaggerate the brightness, but added that helicopters or other aircraft remained one possible explanation.

Japan's 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters said it had no reports of aircraft or helicopter operations in the area during the reported timeframe.

Congress probes Brazil alien case

Omnipresent Congressman Eric Burlison has asked the FBI and CIA for any evidence to be released regarding the 1996 Varginha, Brazil UAP incident– another one of the most notable events in UFO history.

The request stops short of requiring total verification of the claims, instead seeking to establish whether government records, flight logs, or investigative files exist.

The FBI has been asked to determine whether it possesses investigative records, liaison reports, contractor information, or other material connected to the incident.

Burlison's letters reference a previous CIA Freedom of Information Act request that resulted in a "neither confirm nor deny" response citing national security exemptions.

The move follows renewed public comments from former Brazilian Defense Minister Aldo Rebelo that have revived interest in the decades-old case.

Burlison has long been a proponent of releasing evidence in a contained manner, and he ramped up the urgency recently – notably with his "this is what happens when you stop asking politely” statement when persuading MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory to hand over a historical flying saucer video from 1952.
