Lindsey Graham never married and had no children. He was survived by his younger sister, Darline Graham Nordone, who remained the central figure in his immediate family.

Here is more about Lindsey Graham’s parents, early family life and lifelong relationship with his sister!
Who Were Lindsey Graham’s Parents? His Family Background
Graham was born on July 9, 1955, in Central, a small town in upstate South Carolina. He was the eldest of two children born to Millie Etta Walters Graham and Florence James “F.J.” Graham, whom local residents knew as “Dude.” His younger sister, Darline, was born about nine years later.
His parents supported the family by running the Sanitary Cafe on Main Street. The business combined a restaurant, bar, and pool hall, while his father also operated a liquor store.
During Graham’s early childhood, the family lived in a single room behind the cafe and used a metal tub for bathing. They later moved into a trailer before settling into a house next to the business.
Graham grew up helping his parents at the cafe. As a teenager, he worked around the pool hall on weekends, racking balls and assisting during busy nights. The business introduced him to a wide range of people in Central and remained a major part of his childhood.
After graduating from D.W. Daniel High School, Graham became the first person in his family to attend college. He enrolled at the University of South Carolina, where he studied psychology and joined the Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Although he had moved away for his studies, he regularly returned to Central by bus to visit his parents, help at the business, and spend time with Darline.
His family situation changed while he was still an undergraduate. His mother died from Hodgkin lymphoma on June 9, 1976. Graham was 20 years old and would turn 21 the following month. His father died from a heart attack on September 22, 1977, approximately 15 months later. Graham was then 22, while Darline was only 13.
Darline went to live with an aunt and uncle in nearby Seneca, but Graham took primary responsibility for her welfare. He returned to Central on most weekends to work at the family store, check on his sister, and make sure she had everything she needed.
Lieven considered leaving university but continued his education while managing his new family responsibilities. He later became Darline’s legal guardian and adopted her after entering the Air Force so she could receive his military benefits.
Graham earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1977 and continued at the University of South Carolina School of Law, receiving his law degree in 1981.
Darline Graham Nordone was Lindsey Graham’s only sibling and his closest immediate family member. Following the senator’s death in July 2026, she was identified as the family member who survived him. Graham never married and had no children, which made his relationship with Darline especially important throughout his life.
