Arcola Mayor Fred Burton arrested on 5 felony charges
Arcola Mayor Fred Anthony Burton has been arrested on five felony charges, officials confirm.
According to Fort Bend County Jail records, he is facing two counts of illegal voting, one count of misuse of official information, one count of fraudulently securing the execution of a document and one count of tampering with a government record defraud/harm.
Illegal voting charges
The illegal voting charges stem from two elections –the Arcola Municipal Runoff Election on June 7, 2025, and the April 23, 2026, City of Arcola General, Joint, and Special Election.
According to the grand jury indictments, Burton is accused of helping, encouraging, or failing to prevent three people from voting when he knew they were ineligible to do so.
The three other charges stem from 2023, during Burton’s previous term as mayor.
Misuse of official information charge: According to an indictment, Burton is accused of using information that had not been made public and that he allegedly accessed through his position as mayor. The indictment alleges Burton disclosed information about a competitive bid for a city contract to another person for a non-governmental purpose.
Tampering with a government record charge: Burton is also accused of knowingly presenting or using an allegedly false estimate connected to the Arcola Food Court Project.
Fraudulently securing the execution of a document charge: Another indictment alleges Burton caused two Arcola City Council members to sign or execute documents affecting the city’s financial interests without their effective consent. Court records state the alleged financial interest was valued at $30,000 or more but less than $150,000.

For decades, the E.U. has devised ever more convoluted ways to avoid penalising Israel’s illegal settlements, even as they devour a two-state solution it claims is the only path to regional peace
If I asked you to cut off your arm, would you do it?
What if I pointed out that that your arm regularly punched a neighbour in the face so violently that it broke their nose and teeth, and left them unconscious? Would you cut your arm off then?
I’m guessing the answer to both questions is a firm, “No.”
Which is exactly why the European Union, Britain and the United States have precisely no intention of severing their support for Israel’s illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, however violent the Jewish colonisers who live on stolen Palestinian land prove to be.
For decades, settler militias — backed by Israeli soldiers — have beaten up Palestinians, shot them, poisoned their wells, chopped down their olive groves, torched their homes, all in an attempt to ethnically cleanse them from their historic homeland.
The relentless expansion of these illegal settlements has left any hope of a two-state solution in tatters. The West Bank is now an archipelago of Palestinian villages and towns isolated from one another by marauding violent settlers, apartheid roads only for Jews, steel and concrete barriers, and army checkpoints.
All of this has happened in full view of Western states over many decades. The International Court of Justice, the world’s highest court, ruled back in 2004 — nearly a quarter of a century ago — that these Jewish settlements violated international law and needed to be dismantled.
It reiterated that demand in a decision two years ago in which it identified Israel as an apartheid state ruling over Palestinians. It warned states to “take steps to prevent trade or investment relations that assists in the maintenance of the illegal situation created by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory.”

Iraqi PM denounces drone attack over Erbil, doesn’t identify source

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi condemns a “drone attack” that violated the airspace of Erbil in the northern Kurdistan region, his office says, after several drones were shot down.
“We have directed the relevant security agencies… in coordination with the Region’s security forces, to take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks and to thwart anyone attempting to harm the security of our noble Iraqi society, wherever they may be,” he says, without identifying the source of the drones.

Iranian army says it launched drone attack on US military sites in Jordan

The Iranian army says that it targeted US military facilities in Jordan with drones, state media reports, after the United States carried out another wave of strikes on Iran.
“The Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that… in response to the enemy aggression, it targeted the communication systems and fuel storage facilities of the US military in Jordan using suicide (kamikaze) drones,” state television IRIB says.
