Report Reveals Canadian PM Mark Carney Spent $160K on Airplane Food for Single Trip

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), a citizens’ advocacy group, reported on Wednesday that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spent nearly $160,000 on luxury airline food during a single trip abroad.

CTF based its report on government records of the expenditures made when Carney took a week-long trip to Athens, Abu Dhabi, Johannesburg, and the Canary Islands in November 2025,bringing a 55-person entourage along for the ride. The enormous spending on meals worked out to $2,850 per person.

Some of the bill could beattributed to the high quality of the cuisine, which included dinners of Chilean sea bass, beef tenderloin, and chicken chasseur, but CTF alsonoted some very high item costs, like $90 for orange juice and $176 for a case of bottled water.

“Carney spent more money on airplane food during one trip than the average family will spend on groceries in almost a decade,” complained CTF federal director Franco Terrazzano in a press release quoted by Canada’s National Post.

“Carney keeps promising to spend less, but if he isn’t willing to cut back on airplane food, then what will he spend less on?” he asked.

Terrazzano pointed to more reasonable food bills for trips taken by other Canadian officials and declared: “If other politicians and bureaucrats can travel without racking up these outrageous bills, then Carney can spend less while flying abroad.”

“It’s possible for the prime minister to travel internationally without billing taxpayers six figures for airplane food, so we need Carney to make sure these types of bills never happen again,” he said.

The National Post noted that CTF previouslyslammed Carney for spending almost $200,000 on catering for three flights beyond Canada’s borders earlier in 2025, including $94,000 for a trip to Rome.

The total bill forairborne chow during Carney’s first year as prime minister came to almost $1 million— and the Toronto Sun reported in June that even that figure could be off because the totals provided by the Canadian defense department for meals aboard “CANFORCE One” did not match invoices and other documents obtained by the media.

Not only were Carney’s food bills much higher than those of most Canadian officials, but CTFpointed out that the Canadian government knew it had a longstanding problem with excessive travel expenses, and had promised — in writing — to do better under withering public criticism. Carney also personally promised to spend less than his predecessors.

The Toronto Sun grumbled on Wednesday that despite his promises of responsible spending,Carney had Canadian taxpayers “paying for caviar wishes on a meatloaf budget.”

Tom Homan Pushes for More Worksite Arrests of Migrants

The Department of Homeland Security is visiting worksites to check for illegals, “but I want more,” border czar Tom Homan told the Center for Immigration Studies.

Homan told Mark Krikorian, the CIS director, on July 16:

We need to fire up worksite-enforcement operations, because I know, not only can you arrest illegal aliens that cause a decrease in wages for the American worker, not only does it hurt legitimate businesses because they undercut their bids and it puts Americans out of work, but also because… they’re in the country illegally.

“You and I both are aware of human trafficking, forced labor, peonage, and where do we find a lot of victims of trafficking? On worksites!” Homan added.

But Krikorian noted that ICE is doing few worksite enforcement operations amid a strong pushback by employers and investors: “We’re not seeing it.”

“Worksite needs to be a big part,” Homan said, adding:

Matter of fact, just this morning we had a conference call on the status. They are doing it, but I want more. So we just had a status call this morning, and it’s moving.

Worksite crimes can trigger ICE arrests, said Homan: “If they’ve committed a worksite violation that is criminal, they’re gonna be charged.”

Other government agencies are using their powers to quietly push migrants homeward by excluding them from American housing, bank accounts, loans, schools, and welfare programs.

But many business groups are quietly working with progressives to reduce the deportation of “affordable” migrant workers because they reduce Americans’ wages.

On July 12, for example, establishment outlet Politico touted demands by Texas construction employers for fewer detentions and deportations of foreign workers:

Benny Melendez voted for President Donald Trump in 2024. But since Trump returned to the White House, it has been increasingly difficult for Melendez to run his small construction company in south Texas. He says immigration officers have detained workers at his job sites and while driving his company trucks. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 10 of those workers have been deported.

“The fear factor that it creates, the disruption that it creates, the environment that it creates, is debilitating,” said Javier Palomarez, president and CEO of USHBC [U.S. Hispanic Business Council]. “If you’ve got a small business of 10 people or so, and you get even one person deported, you can imagine what that does to the morale of that business unit and to the fear of the business owner.”

The Politico article failed to include any comments about the enforcement-related gains for employers and voters….

For many years, wages for construction workers in Texas have been below the national average because federal and state politicians have quietly welcomed migrant workers.

But wages are going back up amid President Donald Trump’s enforcement of the law. “I’ve been in and around construction for over two decades and I don’t remember a labor market this tight,” said an April post by Mike Callahan:

The BLS Current Employment Statistics program put the average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory construction workers at $36.84 in February 2026 — a 4.1 percent year-over-year gain against a CPI of 2.8 percent. That’s a real wage gain of about 1.3 percentage points. Three straight years of construction wages outrunning inflation.

Roofers saw the second-largest percentage gain of any trade at 4.9 percent year over year, reaching $28.40 per hour nationally. Roofers have historically been among the lower-paid production trades, but the labor supply for roofing work has tightened faster than almost anything else as younger workers pursue the more technical trades. The ones who stay command more.

Laborers had the biggest percentage jump: 5.1 percent year over year to $24.80 per hour. That number will surprise people who think of general labor as an abundant commodity. It shouldn’t. The construction workforce shortage of 501,000 open positions includes a significant chunk of general labor — and in markets where wage growth elsewhere pulls workers toward higher-skilled roles, laborer availability has gotten genuinely tight. On some jobsites I’ve visited in the past year, the GC is paying a $2/hour premium over prevailing wage just to keep steady laborer count. (Emphasis original.)

Vance Children Set Up Lemonade Stand to Donate Proceeds to Special Olympics

“We beat the summer heat yesterday with a lemonade stand — complete with kid-squeezed lemonade and @VP’s cookies and cupcakes,” an Instagram post from Second Lady Usha Vance said. “Together, the kids chose to donate the proceeds to our friends at the Special Olympics.”

One photo showed that lemonade and cookies sold for three dollars, while cupcakes sold for four.

In a statement, the Second Lady’s office confirmed to Breitbart News that “the lemonade stand raised over $700” and that “all proceeds will be donated to the Special Olympics.”

In a comment on the post, the Special Olympics thanked the Vances for their “continued support of Special Olympics.”

=“We invite everyone to join us in building stronger communities where people with ID [intellectual disability] are included,” the Special Olympics wrote. “When we #ChooseToInclude people with ID, we help to create a more welcoming and connected world for our athletes.”

California County Passes ‘Reparations’ Plan That Does Not Include Payments

Alameda County, California, officials approved a cashless plan for racial ‘reparations’ after the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) purportedly failed on “its own highly publicized racial equity promises,” Fox News reported Friday.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors agreed by unanimous vote to accept a“comprehensive reparations action plan” following more than two years of research and outreach, according to the report, but the plan does not appear to include cash payouts.

“Designed to address decades of systemic discrimination against Black residents,the plan takes an institutional reform approach rather than focusing primarily on direct individual cash payouts,” according to the report.

“Our Commission was focusing on what role did the county as a government play in systemic discrimination … and then what actions could we take as a county government to redress that?” Supervisor Nate Miley, who was a prime mover on the reparations initiative, told Fox News Digital on Thursday.

Miley said officials wanted to identify the role county government played in racist discrimination that prevented African Americans from thriving.

“I do think there could potentially be some linkages between the school district and what they came up with in our plan, as we continue to move forward to operationalize our plan,” he said.

Instead of dishing out checks, the plan outlines structural overhauls for black residentslike expanding affordable housing, supporting economic development and passing criminal justice reforms, the Bay Area’s NBC affiliate reported.

The board also approved establishing a permanent standing committee on reparations to oversee the implementation.While the plan prioritizes new policies over payouts, some local leaders still support direct compensation.

According to Fox:

Alameda County recently partnered with the nearby City of Hayward to establish the $1.3 million Russell City Redress Fund.=The fund will provide direct payments to survivors and descendants of Russell City, an unincorporated community seized and bulldozed by local authorities in the 1950s and 1960s for industrial redevelopment, Local News Matters reported.

These local efforts come amid a broader national wave of municipalities exploring racial redress. Most notably, the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois, made headlines by distributing $25,000 housing grants to eligible Black residents to address historic housing discrimination — an initiative that is currently facing a federal legal challenge.

Five years after the OUSD promised reparations for its black students,critics and parents argued that initiative went nowhere with the district still producing dismal academic outcomes.

Interviews withformer members revealed that 2021 effort fell apart over bitter disagreements regarding school closures and what role district officials should play in the reparations work.

Meanwhile, OUSD spokesperson John Sasaki told Mercury News that the task force remains “active and moving forward under strong leadership, with a clear focus on supporting Black student achievement and well-being.”

A neighborhood in Seattle, Washington, is fascinated by a deformed creature that has been haunting its streets.

When Kiana Hall spotted the animal running out from under a car recently in the Ballard area, she initially thought it was a catbut soon realized it was a raccoon, The Seattle Times reported Thursday.

Due to its small sizeand the fact it was round and has long legs, it appeared the raccoon had a rare congenital disorder known as short spine syndrome.

“I got very confused at what I was seeing. I just have never seen any other animal like it,” Hall, who recorded the animal on her cellphone, recalled.

Video footage showed the animal running across a patch of grass and up a flight of stairs before disappearing:

Hall later named the raccoon Jimothy. He has since become famous online and other neighborshave said they spotted him near their homes.

According to Petco,short spine syndrome in dogs “is an extraordinarily rare congenital disorderthat makes dogs look like they have no neck.”Although the animal can experience health issues due to the syndrome, the website said many dogs with it live for years:

Experts don’t know exactly why pets are born with this condition, but inbreeding may play a part. The crux of short spine syndrome in dogs is that the vertebrae don’t develop into bone during the fetal stage of development but instead remain in a more pliable cartilage stage. Since the vertebrae never ossify, the spine remains soft. Over time, the soft vertebrae get compressed. The spine may fuse and shorten significantly.

Despite his odd appearance, Jimothy has made quite the impression on Seattle locals and become somewhat of a legend.

“Kind of has some sort of physical abnormality, kind of looks a little bit like a cryptid but very cute.Almost a little supernatural, kind of like Bigfoot or a yeti or something, becoming infamous really quickly,” Brigitte D’autremont told KIRO.

“I hope he makes it. You always worry about animals that are a little different like that. You want to make sure that they survive in the wild,” she added.

Marcie Logsdon, an associate professor at Washington State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, told the Times the raccoon’s prognosis appeared positive and he seemed to be functioning well.

“The fact that he’s made it to this age tells me that he’s managing and that he’s adapting. I was surprised and honestly a little bit inspired that he’s that resilient,” she stated.

Zelensky fired defense minister to tighten grip on power – opposition leader

The real fight in Kiev is over political control and wartime corruption flows, Viktor Medvedchuk says

Ukraine’s latest government reshuffle is not about reforming the military but about Vladimir Zelensky trying to preserve his grip on power, exiled opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk has said.

Medvedchuk, who formerly led the Opposition Platform – For Life party, banned by Kiev, made the remarks after Zelensky dismissed Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov and launched a broader cabinet overhaul that has triggered protests across Ukraine.

Zelensky justified Fedorov’s dismissal by citing tensions between the defense minister and Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky, stating the two could not work together without his personal mediation.

However, in an article published on Thursday via his Other Ukraine platform, Medvedchuk said the real political struggle in Kiev is actually between Fedorov and Zelensky himself, and is “not for military power, but for civilian power, for overall leadership of the country.”

He claimed that despite nationwide protests, Zelensky cannot afford to back down after firing Fedorov because doing so would mean surrendering political control and access to wartime graft schemes.

“For the bloody clown, to retreat now means to finally lose power and hand over military corruption flows to others,” Medvedchuk wrote.

The replacement of Fedorov with acting Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) chief Evgeny Khmara is intended to extend the influence of the Zelensky-controlled agency over the Defense Ministry, Medvedchuk added.

Ukrainian media have reported thatFedorov’s dismissal was also linked to Zelensky’s dissatisfaction with the minister’s “independent political game” and ties to circles closeto the Western-backed National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), which have investigated multiple high-profile corruption cases involving senior Ukrainian officials.

Fedorov, 35, was Ukraine’s youngest-ever defense minister and only assumed the role in January. He deepened Ukraine’s ties with Palantir, a controversial US data-mining and military technology company, but failed to reform his corruption-prone ministry in accordance with “NATO standards,” as Fedorov himself admitted while confirming his departure.

His dismissal has sparked demonstrations in Kiev and other Ukrainian cities, with protesters demanding that he be reinstated and some calling for Syrsky to be removed instead. Fedorov has also accused Syrsky of “splitting the country” and backed calls for his dismissal.
