3 more metro Atlanta police officers fired, accused of misusing Flock cameras

Three police officers in a metro Atlanta city have been fired after they were accused of misusing the department’s license plate readers.

The Fayetteville Police Department said flags were raised during an internal audit of the department’s Flock Safety cameras.

The audit found that three officers searched license plates that belonged to themselves or people that they know “without a legitimate law-enforcement purpose.” The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will now conduct its own criminal investigation.

Academia Embarrasses Itself… Again

Over at Twitchy, a publication that curates the news in funny yet insightful ways, a headline reads, “Head of Medical School Tells Congresswoman the Vast Majority of Pregnancies Occur in Women.” Sure enough, Twitchy is telling the truth.

During witness testimony before a congressional committee examining the impact of forced “diversity,” preferential (non-merit-based) admissions, and “woke” ideology upon the quality of medical schools, the chancellor of UC San Francisco testified under oath that not all pregnancies come from women. That chancellor, Samuel Hawgood, is not some administrative bureaucrat with a made-up bachelor’s degree in the discriminatory effects of man-made “climate change” upon “transgender” Pakistanis (and an obligatory master’s in why American taxpayers must foot the bill for all “sex change” surgeries around the world). No, Hawgood is an actual pediatrician who previously served as UCSF’s dean of the School of Medicine. A man who did his residency at the Royal Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Brisbane cannot tell us how babies are made.

It is astounding to watch just how far down the propaganda rabbit hole so-called “institutions of higher learning” have dragged society. Until very recently, this kind of public display of sophistry would have embarrassed an intellectual of the lowest order. For a medical doctor and university chancellor to pretend that men can get pregnant is a flashing neon sign warning just how corrupt and dishonest all of academia has become. These days, university leaders sound indistinguishable from North Korean spokespeople assuring starving citizens that they are better off than anyone else in the world.

How did we get to this point in time when professors tell rank lies to the American people, while hiding behind their titles as false evidence that those lies are somehow “truths”? Well, social media favorite “Oilfield Rando” points to part of the problem. In an X post responding to the doctor’s pseudoscientific testimony, Rando includes an itemization of Chancellor Hawgood’s university pay and accompanying benefits. The man in charge of one of the country’s top educational institutions takes home well over a million dollars each year. Unless Chancellor Hawgood is a moron who genuinely believes men can get pregnant, it is likely that he is willing to sell his intellectual reputation and personal honor for a seven-figure salary.

What does that say about the current state of our society? The modern university arose from Christian monasteries dedicated to God’s truth. This is why divinity degrees are generally accorded highest honor during processions accompanying graduation ceremonies. As monasteries developed into secular institutions of higher learning, they remained places dedicated to the pursuit of truth. Harvard’s motto, veritas, simply means “truth.”

For hundreds of years, faculty members did not take positions on college campuses because they sought fame or fortune. They became scholars and professors because they were dedicated to the rigors of their calling. Just as a Christian monk lived in poverty because the pursuit of truth provided spiritual nourishment and personal fulfillment, a scholar embraced a penurious life within academia in exchange for the privilege of seeking authentic truth. The reward — unvarnished enlightenment — was understood to be more valuable than money.

I have spent enough time on university campuses to understand that they are no longer sanctuaries for truth. There was a time not so many decades ago when campuses were “safe spaces” for all ideas. Unlike the real world, where an employee might be fired for taking unorthodox positions in the workplace, colleges once encouraged professors and students to advance eccentric, heretical, and dissenting points of view on any subject. Intellectual debate was more important than “hurt feelings” or “political correctness.”

Just hours after police claimed they had arrested a key player in the tobacco and bar wars that have ravaged Melbourne, a message purported to be from his alleged superiors was released.

A mysterious underworld cartel dubbed “The Commission” issued a warning through crime news journalist Ryan Naumenko from Outlaw Media.

“Nothing stops and nothing changes,” the missive shared on his social media read.

“The beast has awoken … Tax continues to be paid and the boys will continue to burn.”

It’s unclear if The Commission had already made good on their word, but the attacks in Melbourne have continued.

Several suburban businesses went up in flames in overnight attacks in the days after alleged firebombing director Jesse Hadchiti, 20, was arrested on Tuesday.

On Wednesday night a house in Gladstone Park was shot at. A furniture store in Tullamarine was ram raided and set ablaze in the early hours of Thursday morning.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by the victims of the latest arson attacks.

UN refutes Jillian Segal’s Gaza death toll claim before Royal Commission

Responding to Special Envoy Jillian Segal’s claim of a “grossly inflated” death toll in Gaza, UN spokesperson for Secretary-General António Guterres backed the Gaza Ministry of Health.

The integrity of Australia’s Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion depends on an accurate factual record. Public confidence in its findings relies on evidence being tested and claims being verified.

Too much is at stake. Hate is on the rise, and the safety of the Jewish community is rightly being examined in the wake of the Bondi Terror Attack. With distrust and polarisation at near-record levels, the process deserves to be respected.

Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism, Jillian Segal, told the Royal Commission on July 9 that Gaza death toll figures from the Gaza Health Ministry reported by SBS and the ABC were “grossly inflated,” and that this was “well known and even accepted by the United Nations”.

I’ve spent most of my career working for the UN and its agencies. I’m not an official UN employee right now, but I remain a firm believer in the institution and its integrity, which is why I sought clarification regarding the UN’s position on the Gaza death toll directly from the office of the Secretary-General.

The UN responds

Responding on behalf of Secretary-General António Guterres, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said:

“For us the Ministry of Health in Gaza is a source we, and many others, often cite. Independent validation of subsets of the data has found no significant discrepancies in their numbers.”

The Department of Home Affairs was asked if it would issue a clarification. A spokesperson provided the following response:

“The Special Envoy has been appointed as non-statutory Ministerial appointment. The Department does not comment on statements made by individuals.”

Misinformation broadcast nationally and left unchallenged doesn’t just cast aspersions on the UN. It cheapens the seriousness of the allegations Israel is facing, and it’s an insult to the scale of civilian life already lost. It also undermines the commission’s noble cause of promoting greater social cohesion.

Envoy Segal’s testimony before the Royal Commission was also rejected by the ABC Alumni whose Jonathan Holmes referred to as “propagating serious inaccuracies, and some outright untruths, in her sworn testimony to a Royal Commission”.

On the Gazan Health Ministry numbers referred to by Ms Segal as “grossly inaccurate”, Holmes wrote:

This is simply untrue. The UN has said repeatedly that the Gazan Ministry of Health estimate of 70,000 deaths in Gaza since October 2023 is probably too low because so many bodies are still buried under the rubble. And even the IDF admitted in January this year that those statistics were “broadly accurate”.
