Flying Saucer Crash Lands in Utah Desert
A flying saucer from outer space crash-landed in the Utah desert after being tracked by radar and chased by helicopters. The year was 2004, and no space aliens were involved. The saucer, pictured here, was the Genesis sample return capsule, part of a human-made robot Genesis spaceship launched in 2001 by NASA itself to study the Sun. The unexpectedly hard landing at over 300 kilometers per hour occurred because the parachutes did not open as planned. The Genesis mission had been orbiting the Sun collecting solar wind particles that are usually deflected away by Earth's magnetic field. Despite the crash landing, many return samples remained in good enough condition to analyze. Genesis-related discoveries included new details about the composition of the Sun and how the abundance of some types of elements differ across the Solar System. These results have provided intriguing clues into details of how the Sun and planets formed billions of years ago.

WHAT IS HITTING EARTH? Interstellar Debris or Comet Fragments?

What is hitting Earth — interstellar debris, comet fragments, or something else moving through our region of space?
On July 3, 2026, at approximately 3:43 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, a brilliant green-white fireball crossed the sky over Tucson, Arizona.
A Wyze security camera recorded the fast-moving object, its intense terminal flare, and the sky becoming bright enough to overwhelm the camera sensor.
The American Meteor Society grouped the event as AMS Event 5022-2026, based on nine witness reports from Arizona and Texas, along with two videos and one independent photograph showing a twisted persistent train remaining in the sky after the fireball.
But the ground footage may not be the only record.
During my investigation, I located an isolated optical-energy signal in archived GOES-18 Geostationary Lightning Mapper imagery near southeastern Arizona.
The signal appears in the CIRA frame labeled 10:41:24 UTC, close to the Tucson witness window and the camera timestamp of 10:43:07 UTC.
The surrounding GeoColor imagery shows no obvious convective thunderstorm cloud beneath the signal.
That makes ordinary lightning a less convincing explanation and strengthens the possibility that GOES-18 detected the bolide from orbit.
However, important questions remain.
The public CIRA display is a five-minute visualization—not the raw millisecond-level GLM event record. A direct extraction of the Level-2 GLM timing and light curve would still be needed to establish the satellite association definitively.
There is also no published atmospheric trajectory, heliocentric orbit, parent stream, meteorite fall zone, or confirmed connection to interstellar debris or a particular comet.

NASA astronaut visits Wapak’s Summer Moon Fest

WAPAKONETA — Families who attended the Wapakoneta Summer Moon Festival were given the opportunity to meet a true NASA astronaut.
Speaking at the festival was Don Thomas, who served as a NASA astronaut from 1991 to 2007. Being from Cleveland, Thomas always felt inspiration from Neil Armstrong, who was just a few cities away.
Selected by NASA in January 1990, Dr. Thomas served in the Safety, Operations Development and Payloads branches of the astronaut office. He was the spacecraft communicator for shuttle missions STS-47, 52 and 53, logging over 1,000 hours in space.
Children and adults alike were able to hear Thomas’ stories, missions and accomplishments.
“My greatest accomplishment: I got selected to be an astronaut. This is my lifelong dream, since I was a six year old boy growing up in Cleveland here in Ohio. I always dreamed of following in the footsteps of John Glenn and Neil Armstrong,” he said.
Thomas mentioned how he made his dream come true, as well as making his space career better than he could ever imagine. Thomas invited Neil Armstrong to watch him as he was launched for his third mission.
“I was so excited. Then the day before launch, I got a call from NASA management, saying that he [Armstrong] wanted to meet with me. So the day before my third launch, I got to spend an hour one-on-one with Neil Armstrong,” said Thomas.
He explained how Armstrong would relate to Thomas the stress a family goes through while their loved one is in space, as well as how to cope with the pressure of being an astronaut.
Organizers of Saturday’s meet and greet wanted to spark local children’s passion with space, as Thomas felt he had.
“We truly believe that there is something about Ohio, and we want to keep that legacy alive of our kids today,” said Jackie Martell, president of First Man on the Moon, Inc.
Throughout the conversations and interviews, one question had to be asked to Thomas: are aliens real?
“I do think there’s other life out in the universe. It’s such a huge universe. Billions and billions of stars and planets, but I don’t believe we’ve seen it yet. I do think there’s other life out there, and that can be on the record,” he said.
The meet and greet with Don Thomas left all attendees grateful to know that many of the astronauts came from Ohio, so close to home.

Kiev hit by drone and missile strikes

The Russian Defense Ministry said it targeted Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in and around Kiev
The Ukrainian capital and its suburbs were targeted by a large-scale strike using high-precision weapons and drones early on Sunday morning, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.
Moscow maintains that it targets only military and dual-use installations in response to Ukraine’s indiscriminate “terrorist attacks.”
The first blasts in Kiev were heard shortly after 1 AM local time, followed by further explosions in several waves, with local media reporting over 40 missile strikes by 3 AM.
Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported multiple fires near residential buildings, shopping centers, and unspecified “non-residential” facilities.
Several blurred videos shared on social media showed numerous blasts and successive fires in and around the Ukrainian capital.
The Russian Defense Ministry said high-precision air- and ground-launched weapons and attack drones targeted Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in Kiev and the surrounding region.
The operation also targeted infrastructure at the Port of Yuzhny in Odessa Region that was being used to receive and store military cargo and fuel supplies intended to support Ukrainian forces, according to the MOD.
Ukraine has stepped up long-range drone raids deep inside Russian territory amid significant setbacks on the battlefield, often hitting residential buildings and deliberately targeting other civilian infrastructure.
On Saturday, seven night-shift workers were killed and another 25 were injured in a targeted strike on a logistics center operated by Russian online retailer Wildberries in the Tambov Region.
Simultaneously, another Wildberries logistics center was attacked overnight in Elektrostal, around 50 km east of Moscow, injuring another 24 people.
Kiev routinely accuses Russia of deliberately striking civilian sites, but it has a long history of using civilian facilities, including warehouses, public buildings, and industrial sites, for military purposes.
Last month, Ukrainian media accidentally exposed a drone plant at a film studio struck by Russia.
Over the course of the conflict, Kiev has taken considerable steps to decentralize its weapons production chain, establishing small-scale assembly sites that primarily manufacture FPV and fixed-wing long-range drones using components supplied from abroad.

Ukrainian Drones Strike 13 Electrical Substations and Shadow Fleet Vessels

In brief: On July 19, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) conducted a coordinated strike against Russian military logistics and energy infrastructure.
USF Commander Robert Brovdi reported that drones hit 13 electrical substations across occupied territories, including eight facilities in Crimea.
Simultaneously, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed strikes on four maritime assets linked to Russia’s shadow fleet – including two tankers and a floating crane – in the Black and Azov Seas.

Strikes on Russian energy infrastructure
Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, Commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF), reported that drone units engaged 59 targets overnight.
The primary focus of the operation was the disruption of power distribution networks, resulting in strikes on 13 electrical substations.
Brovdi detailed that eight of the targeted electrical substations are located in occupied Crimea. The struck facilities include:

Additional electrical nodes were targeted outside the peninsula, including facilities in Berdiansk (Zaporizhzhia region), Shyroke (Kherson region), Bila Hora and Bezghynove (Luhansk region), and Zemlianky (Donetsk region).
The commander noted that since the beginning of July, operations targeting energy infrastructure under the designation “Crimean Switch Off” have hit a total of 96 electrical nodes.
Targeting the ‘shadow fleet’ and logistics
The overnight operations also targeted Russian maritime logistics. Brovdi stated that USF drones struck four vessels in the Black Sea, identifying them as two tankers, a dry cargo ship, and a floating crane.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine subsequently confirmed the maritime strikes in a morning briefing, stating the operations were aimed at reducing Russian military-economic potential.
“Tankers are used to transport Russian oil, petroleum products, and fuel in the interests of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
Floating cranes provide port operations, loading and unloading of cargo, and also support the functioning of the maritime logistics of the Russian army,” the General Staff reported.
The strikes on maritime assets are part of an ongoing USF campaign designated Operation “Molochka.”
The operation specifically targets Russia’s feeder fleet – flat-bottomed vessels transporting oil through shallow waters to larger deep-draft tankers waiting in the Black Sea – in an effort to paralyze logistics utilized to circumvent international sanctions.
According to Brovdi, the operation aims to disable the self-propelled capabilities of the targeted vessels without causing environmental damage or oil spills.
Since the operation commenced in early July, Ukrainian forces report striking a total of 176 vessels.
In addition to the energy and maritime targets, the General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Buk anti-aircraft missile system near Zelenopillia in the Zaporizhzhia region, and an automobile bridge near Novoekonomichne in the Donetsk region, which the military stated was utilized for Russian military logistics.
