Cyprus Energy Minister: Trump’s ‘Energy Security’ Engagement ‘Vital’ to Future of West

WASHINGTON — The top energy official in the Cyprus government told Breitbart News exclusively that President Donald Trump’s engagement on “energy security” is “vital” to the future of the west.

Michael Damianos, the Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry for the Republic of Cyprus, sat for an exclusive interview with Breitbart News last month when he was in the United States for a series of meetings about Cyprus’s future of pursuing natural gas exploration and development in the coming months and years. During the interview, Damianos made clear that the Cypriot government believes that Trump pursuing energy dominance is extremely important for his region but also for the whole world. Cyprus is a member of the European Union, but it also is the closest European nation to the Middle East. The island, which is mostly controlled by Greek Cypriots who comprise the Republic of Cyprus, also has a small portion of the northern part of the island currently controlled by Turkish occupants.

“I believe that President Trump’s involvement in this is vital, and I think the mark is there already, and we are delighted that we’re able to work with this administration,” Damianos told Breitbart News. “To be honest, if President Trump wasn’t there with respect to what we’re trying to do, things could have been different. So, we’re delighted that President Trump is personally looking into this.”

Damianos added that he wanted to be sure “we do get out that we consider the U.S. involvement in the area as fundamental for the area’s energy security.”

“We are here [in the United States last month] because Cyprus is and wants to be a reliable partner for the U.S.,” Damianos said. “The U.S. can rely on us. We are an EU country, a small country, a democratic country in the area that can support the interests of our partners, and we’re happy that we’re moving on furthering this relationship.”

“So we are on board, we support the initiatives, we like what we see, and we hope that this is going to be proceeding, and we’re going to further our relationship as far as we can,” he added.

Damianos’s interview came after his counterpart in Greece, the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, told Breitbart News that Trump’s “trademark move” in diplomacy is using energy policy to advance economic interests of all parties. Trump himself posted that article from Breitbart News on Truth Social, and the president has regularly talked about the importance of energy—particularly natural gas and oil—as a key marker to advance the interests of the United States and more broadly the interests of western civilization.

Importantly, the Greeks are in the process of beginning natural gas exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean—or East Med, for short—in their waters off the coasts of various Greek islands. But the Cypriots are arguably even further along than the Greeks are right now, and have identified significant amounts of natural gas in their waters in the East Med. This success in Cyprus has American energy companies like Chevron and Exxon-Mobil mobilizing in a big way to extract the natural gas, which could power Cyprus for centuries and provide generations of electricity and power to the rest of Europe and to other partners in the region like Israel and Egypt.

Damianos told Breitbart News that the so-called 3+1 partnership between Greece, Israel, Cyprus, and the United States has been critical for energy production and for security in the region. …

Carney vs Trump: Why the Tariff War Isn't About Canada At All

Susan Kokinda demonstrates that the issue is not a simple U.S.–Canada dispute, it's a broader conflict about sovereignty vs empire. Just look at how Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is staffing his government with figures tied to the British Crown and globalist institutions: … Under Carney, Canada is not a nation, it's the new home address for the British Empire, and President Trump's new Canadian tariffs must be seen in that light.

Dr. Naomi Wolf tells Miranda Devine how she was once the voice of progressive feminism and advised Al Gore on how to woo female voters. US Forces Strike Iranian Military Infrastructure in 12th Consecutive Night of Attacks

‘The mission will continue to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting regional waters,’ CENTCOM stated.

The U.S. military launched strikes against Iranian military targets on Wednesday evening, making it the 12th consecutive night of attacks against the regime.

“The mission will continue to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting regional waters,” U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement on X.

The previous night’s operations hit the regime’s military operations centers, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, and military logistics infrastructure.

On Thursday, Iran-backed Houthi terrorists claimed missile and drone strikes on two Saudi oil tankers, the Encelia and the Layla, as part of a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia. A maritime security source confirmed the attack on the Saudi-flagged Encelia, which transmitted a distress call after being struck by a missile near the Saudi port of Jizan in the Red Sea late Wednesday. British company Vanguard reported the tanker was hit by an unknown projectile on its starboard side about 70 nautical miles southwest of Al Shuqaiq.

Over the past three months, Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, CENTCOM said. According to the U.N.’s International Maritime Organization, 14 mariners have been killed by Iranian strikes targeting vessels on the Omani side of the vital waterway since the conflict started on Feb. 28. Three others were killed in attacks across the Middle East. A total of 2,900 mariners have had to be evacuated from the strait.

Since early May, CENTCOM forces have facilitated the transit of approximately 900 commercial vessels carrying 450 million barrels of crude oil.

An interim ceasefire negotiated last month fell through after Iran resumed its attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. strikes on July 17 came in the wake of Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks on a U.S. base in Jordan. Two soldiers were killed: 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. A third service member, Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, initially reported missing, is now presumed dead.

Iran attacked a tanker in the strait off the coast of Oman on Tuesday, forcing the crew to abandon ship, according to the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center. Iran also launched attacks in Bahrain and Kuwait. Kuwait said Iran struck desalination and power plants for a fourth straight day.

Jordan reported it intercepted five drones and three missiles. Flights were briefly suspended at Irbil International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdish region after attacks there.

President Donald Trump, speaking from the Oval Office on Tuesday, said Washington has “no interest in meeting” with Iran. He indicated that U.S. forces could soon strike Pickaxe Mountain, a fortified underground site close to one of Iran’s main uranium enrichment facilities.

Iran’s armed forces responded with a blunt warning via state-run media, saying such an attack would be viewed as an expansion of the war, and U.S. allies and interests would become targets as a result.
