The Pentagon’s office responsible for investigating unexplained phenomena is looking into a Navy report describing roughly 100 airborne objects and two likely uncrewed surface vessels operating near the Virginia coastline.

Details were included in the latest annual report, which was released this week, from the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office. The Fiscal Year 2025 Consolidated Annual Report on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) covers new reports received between June 2, 2024, and May 30, 2025, along with some earlier incidents that had not been included in prior updates.

The vast majority of the new sightings occurred in the air domain, with 274 cases, followed by 44 in the space domain and just one in the maritime domain. The lone maritime case came from Navy assets operating off the coast of Virginia.

The report notes that such events continue to surface near military installations, training ranges, nuclear power plants, and other sensitive sites. Officials wrote that “AARO received and analyzed several reports describing UAP in or near national security sites or critical infrastructure. Some narrative reports were suggestive of phenomena whose performance characteristics exceed the known state-of-the-art within a given domain. No technical data accompanied these reports.”
