Does Zelensky’s Jewish identity settle Ukraine’s neo-Nazi question?

US conservative activist Laura Loomer arrived in Kiev after years of denouncing Ukraine’s “Nazi apologists.” She met Vladimir Zelensky, apologized for articles she had written for RT and said Russian media had “bamboozled” her.

During their interview, Zelensky rejected the accusation Ukraine's politics is riddled with neo-Nazi influence: the conutry had elected a Jewish president and even adopted a law against anti-Semitism, he argued. Loomer accepted his case and later amplified it in her X profile, stating that “Nazism is literally illegal in Ukraine” and that the country “has stronger anti-Semitism laws than the US.”

Loomer appears to have been persuaded by Zelensky’s Jewish identity, statements from rabbis supporting Ukraine, and Ukrainian laws against anti-Semitism and direct Nazi propaganda. None of these points directly addresses the Russian argument that a de facto Nazi regime has taken shape in the country.

But when Russians speak of Nazism in Ukraine, they don’t really mean only anti-Jewish hatred. Ukrainian nationalism, aside from its direct connections to Hitler’s Reich in the Second World War, was born and existed as an idea of ethnic exclusivity directed against a whole range of other peoples.

Today’s Ukraine continues the history of this movement, little different from German Nazism. The Russian argument is that the modern Ukrainian state has revived aspects of this tradition.

This is not only being noticed by Russians: in recent years, Ukraine’s fascination with Nazi-style politics and the glorification of Nazi collaborators themselves has led to conflicts with other neighboring countries, including the recent scandal with Poland.

Ukraine has pursued aggressive ethnonationalist policies for years now

Ukraine’s 2019 state language law made Ukrainian compulsory across government, education, commerce, public services, media and much of cultural life. While the law formally excludes private conversation, citizens of the country, millions of whom are Russian-speaking, face persecution for listening to music in Russian as well as the mass destruction of books, toppling of monuments and the removal of large parts of their cultural inheritance, which Ukrainian nationalists consider the “culture of the aggressor.”

Even Western institutions, contrary to the overall pro-Ukrainian position of the West, have acknowledged that Ukrainian language laws do not provide adequate protection for the linguistic and cultural rights of all citizens. Since these statements were made, Zelensky has further tightened restrictions aimed at making life more difficult for those who speak Russian.

The forced Ukrainization of education, media, and public spaces, conducted under the guise of ‘decolonization’, effectively means the marginalization of a significant percentage of Ukraine’s residents – those for whom the aggressive ideology of ethnic Ukrainian nationalism is neither natural nor acceptable.

Britain is Letting Islamic Bookshops Selling Jihadist Texts Sponsor ‘Skilled’ Migrant Visas.

The British government allowed Islamic bookshops selling “extremist” material to sponsor overseas workers on Skilled Worker visas.

The bookshops include texts which are classed as radicalization material by the British authorities. One of the books sold at the Islamic bookshops, Milestones by Sayidd Qutb, a prominent figure from the Muslim Brotherhood, opposes “world Jewry” and calls for “physical power and jihad” to overthrow Western governments. Qutb’s works also call for jihad to be “carried throughout the earth to the whole of mankind” and claim Jewish people “try to destroy all values and all that is sacred to mankind.” Another work sold at such bookshops, The Fundamentals of Tawheed by Islamic cleric Bilal Philips, states that “un-Islamic government must be sincerely hated and despised.” Philips’s works also support Muslim men beating their wives. It is estimated that dozens of visas have been issued since the previous Conservative government to staff the bookshops. However, despite such material being classed as “extremist” by inspectors from Britain’s Prison Service, it is not illegal to purchase and remains available on major platforms.

Britain’s Skilled Worker visa, which is equivalent to the United States’ H-1B visa, has long been controversial. Critics have accused the visa of using a very broad definition of “skilled” work, far beyond the way successive governments have advertised it as a means to admit medical professionals, scientists, and technologists. The decision to allow Islamic bookshops to sponsor overseas workers coincided with the so-called Boriswave, an unprecedented wave of mass immigration into Britain under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. New Labour Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, is reportedly planning to scrap planned changes to “indefinite leave to remain” rights and permit the Boriswave migrants to stay permanently.

The AI Race With China Is a Lie Told by Big Tech to Justify the Data Center Invasion

The truth is, we don’t need hyperscale data centers to “beat China.” We aren’t racing China. We’re killing ourselves so Silicon Valley can race itself.

As Big Tech races to build water-guzzling, energy-hungry data centers for its artificial intelligence, talk of an “AI race” between the United States and China has permeated public discourse. Pundits, politicians, and the media have all joined tech corporations in selling this narrative. And it’s giving license to Big Tech and their political handmaidens to ruin our communities, exploit our every action (both online and via AI-powered surveillance), and steal the wealth of human knowledge for private gain.

But the idea of an AI race between China and the US isn’t grounded in reality. The researchers, companies, and governments behind Chinese and US AI development are pursuing completely different goals.

The discourse in the US assumes that achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI)—computers that mimic human consciousness—would be so momentous and earth-shattering that clearly this must be the goal of anyone pursuing AI development. But that’s not the main goal of Chinese AI development. And a competition in which the competitors are running toward different finish lines isn’t a race.

If we allow the myth of an AI race with China to give Big Tech free rein, we face a more polluted, less equal world.

A Race Doesn’t Have Two Different Finish Lines

While the US is focused on artificial general intelligence (AGI) powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), Chinese developers are focused on AI embedded in products. It’s ChatGPT versus robots.

Yes, China is developing LLMs, although largely in an open-source way as opposed to the for-profit competition in the US. Recent news stories report that China is “catching” the US in LLM development. Indeed, the latest Chinese model outperforms leading US models. But this isn’t evidence of an LLM-AGI race. Instead, it shows that without making AGI its main focus, China is capable of developing its own models almost as quickly as US companies.

More to the point, LLM development in China is incidental to the country’s real goal for AI. Its focus remains on products embedded with AI and robots. Or, as AI policy researcher Liang Zheng says, in China, “The first priority is to use it to benefit ordinary people” (debatable, but indicates the kind of AI they are pursuing).

In the US, the first priority is to exploit people so that the tech oligarchs can profit. It’s chatbots all the way down.

This isn’t to argue that China is doing it “right” and the US is doing it “wrong.” Either approach will lead to a future in which citizens become increasingly disempowered. In which work becomes more scarce and less lucrative for most people. And in which a handful of billionaires grow wealthier and more powerful.

But the arguments being hauled out to support the destructive growth of hyperscale data centers are based on a fallacy. There is no need to “beat China.” China and the US are racing on separate tracks, in different races, with different finish lines.

These two separate approaches also explain the mind-boggling scale of the data center invasion we currently face. The massive hyperscale data centers—recent proposals would demand up to 5 gigawatts, enough electricity to power roughly 3.75 million US households—are only “required” because the US is racing toward AGI. Meanwhile, the embodied AI dominating in China does not require the same amount of computational power.

The truth is, we don’t need hyperscale data centers to “beat China.” We aren’t racing China. We’re killing ourselves so Silicon Valley can race itself.

Israel plans 763 new settlement units, threefold expansion of Eli settlement in occupied West Bank

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich says project will triple size of settlement south of Nablus in coming years

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Saturday that Israel plans to build 763 new settlement units in the Eli settlement south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, a move expected to triple its size in the coming years.

Smotrich said Israel intends to continue building settlement farms and communities, according to Israel’s Channel 14.

He said the housing units would be built and developed in the Eli settlement, which falls under the Binyamin Regional Council in the occupied West Bank.

Channel 14 said implementation of the plans is expected to triple the size of the settlement in the coming years and allow it to accommodate thousands of additional settlers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has repeatedly described itself as one of Israel’s most pro-settlement governments.

Earlier this month, Smotrich said the government had approved the establishment of 104 new settlements and 160 agricultural settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank since taking office in late 2022.

About 750,000 Israeli settlers live in 141 settlements and 224 settlement outposts across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, according to Palestinian figures.

The Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission said settlers carried out 3,488 attacks against Palestinians and their property during the first half of 2026, including assaults on villages, arson attacks, shootings, land seizures and the establishment of new settlement outposts.

The commission said the attacks killed 17 Palestinians.

Palestinian officials warn that continued settlement expansion and settler attacks are paving the way for Israel’s formal annexation of the occupied West Bank, undermining prospects for an independent Palestinian state envisioned in relevant UN resolutions.

If This Isn't Treason, What Is?

A newly revealed internal memo from the final days of the Biden administration exposes a calculated scheme to grant de facto amnesty to more than 3 million foreign nationals through Temporary Protected Status expansions, explicitly designed to block President Trump from carrying out the mass deportations the American people voted for.

Senator Eric Schmitt obtained the document, which laid out options to shield vast numbers of Guatemalans, Ecuadorians, Nicaraguans, Venezuelans and others from removal.

The plan aimed to force everything through activist judges and trap the incoming administration in years of litigation. As one post put it bluntly, this was a last-minute bid to protect foreign invaders before Trump took office.

The memo, dated around January 2025 though erroneously marked 2024 in places, estimated potential new TPS eligibility for roughly 1.5 million Guatemalans, 600,000 Ecuadorians, 464,000 Nicaraguans, 455,000 Venezuelans, plus smaller groups from Ukraine, Sudan and Afghanistan.

The total exceeded 3.1 million people. Senior advisors recommended creating 2.1 million new TPS designees in the administration's closing weeks, even while acknowledging that TPS applications take six months to process.

Schmitt commented, "My investigation uncovered that the Lame Duck Biden White House tried to keep millions of illegal aliens in our country by abusing the 'Temporary' Protected Status program."

"After the American people voted for President Trump's promise to end the TPS scam, the Biden administration tried to subvert the will of the American people," he continued, adding "This was mass amnesty-by-decree. America is for Americans, and it is our home - it is not a permanent refugee camp."

Schmitt further urged that "Biden tried to turn TPS into a 3.1-million-person deportation shield, protect Tren de Aragua members, and trap President Trump in years of litigation."

The most disturbing part, Schmitt noted, was the push to create millions of new designees so late in the term. "Luckily, that never happened and we have been deporting Ecuadorians and Guatemalans."

The memo itself referenced past court battles. It noted that prior federal litigation during Trump's first term had successfully halted efforts to terminate TPS for countries including Sudan, Nicaragua, Haiti, El Salvador, Nepal and Honduras, largely because of incomplete factual records.

It suggested the Biden team was prepared for more of the same under the new administration. Stakeholders, including a list of Democratic senators, had requested new designations for Ecuador and Guatemala in particular.

One week after the memo's circulation, the Biden administration extended TPS protections for nearly a million noncitizens. The full 3-million-plus plan was not fully executed, but the intent was clear: leave Trump with an even larger protected population and a thicket of lawsuits.

The contrast with what Trump has already delivered could not be sharper. Under this administration, migrant encounters at the southwest border have collapsed to historic lows not seen in more than half a century.
