In view of the beatification

For her beatification, the postulation presented to the Dicastery for examination the alleged miraculous healing, attributed to her intercession, of a baby born on January 14, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Rhode Island, USA. On the evening of that day, following amniocentesis, the mother was admitted to Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, and since the fetal heart rate did not correspond to the expected clinical parameters, labor was artificially induced. Doctors decided to perform a cesarean section following a diagnosis of chorioamnionitis with a fetal oxygen deficiency. The baby was born prematurely with symptoms of secondary apnea, cyanotic, breathless, and with a slow heart rate. An hour after birth, he showed no signs of improvement, so much so that doctors could not detect a heartbeat. In that moment of extreme urgency, the attending physician invoked Salvador Valera Parra, his fellow countryman, for whom he had sincere devotion, and, in a spontaneous prayer, asked for his intercession for the child's salvation. Shortly thereafter, the newborn, without any external intervention, recovered his heartbeat and began to revive. The following day, he was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit at the Women & Infants Hospital, where he remained for 15 days with a diagnosis of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Doctors were certain he would suffer serious developmental damage, such as cerebral palsy or intellectual disability. However, despite his clinical symptoms, the child showed spontaneous activity. On January 19, he began a further and progressive improvement in his neurological and behavioral status. On March 1, 2007, he was discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit and transferred to Hasbro Children's Hospital following a descending colectomy due to narrowing of the sigmoid colon resulting from stage II necrotizing enterocolitis. On April 3, the infant was discharged, and subsequent checkups revealed psychomotor development that led him to speak at 18 months and walk at 2 years of age. Little Tyquan continued to grow like a normal child, leading a regular life and participating in sports.
