🤔Iran is running a protection racket through the Strait of Hormuz.

Not alleged. Not inferred. Treasury said it today in a press release, on letterhead, with the Secretary's name on it.

Here's how it works.

The IRGC seizes commercial vessels transiting the Strait. Then a firm called the Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company sells "insurance" to other vessels insurance against the risk of seizure. The risk that the IRGC itself creates.

A second firm HormuzSafe Marine Services Authority does the same thing digitally. Developed by Iran's Ministry of Economy. Advertised on social media by a sanctioned regime financier.

HormuzSafe accepts payment in Bitcoin.

Read that again.

A sovereign nation built a digital insurance company that accepts cryptocurrency to sell protection against a threat that the same sovereign nation's military creates.

That's not sanctions evasion. That's a government-operated protection racket using a global shipping chokepoint as the leverage and Bitcoin as the payment rail.

Treasury designated both firms today.

Why it exists.

Bessent said it plainly: "With its economy in freefall and inflation in the triple digits, the regime is desperate for cash."

Treasury named the cause: Operation Epic Fury the military and financial campaign that has been squeezing Iran's oil revenue for months. The protection racket was built to replace the revenue that campaign destroyed.

The financial denial worked so well that Iran had to build a criminal enterprise to compensate for it.

The shadow fleet.

Today's action also designated eight more vessels and eight Hong Kong-based shell companies transporting millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil to China.

Since January 2026, OFAC has sanctioned over 100 vessels linked to Iran's shadow fleet.

One hundred vessels in seven months.

The flag states tell the story: Marshall Islands, Mozambique, Barbados, Vanuatu, one with no flag at all. All owned by shell companies in Hong Kong. All shipping Iranian oil to China.

That's the same architecture the framework has been documenting across every thread shell companies in multiple jurisdictions, flag-state shopping for opacity, legitimate-looking corporate structures hiding sovereign-directed illicit commerce.

The Bitcoin detail is the one nobody will talk about.

HormuzSafe accepts Bitcoin. A state-backed firm using cryptocurrency to collect protection money from international shipping companies transiting the world's most important oil chokepoint.

Two weeks ago I posted about how the U.S. rebuilt its financial kill switch three times because the money kept moving off banking rails. Section 311 for banks. Section 9714 for crypto. Section 2313a for fentanyl brokerages.

Here's the target that architecture was built to reach: a sovereign actor using Bitcoin to monetize a shipping chokepoint.

The money left the banks. The law followed it. And today it caught a government running a protection racket in cryptocurrency.

The honest observation.

Iran's economy is in freefall. Triple-digit inflation. Oil revenue squeezed by 100+ vessel designations. The IRGC builds a protection racket through the Strait of Hormuz and accepts Bitcoin because the banking system is closed to them.

That is what a financially denied sovereign actor looks like when the denial is working. Not collapse. Adaptation. Criminal adaptation using the tools of the network class the framework has been documenting for six years, deployed at the nation-state level.

The question is whether the adaptation can generate enough revenue to sustain the regime, or whether the designation of the protection racket today closes the last improvised revenue channel.

Treasury seems to think they know the answer. Bessent's word was "desperate."

Watch the money. Not the podium.

I am the guy on the couch, and you have been debriefed.

With its economy in freefall and inflation in the triple digits, the regime is desperate for cash. The United States will not allow Iran to hold global commerce hostage or use international shipping to finance the IRGC’s terrorism, aggression, and repression. x.com/USTreasury/sta…

‘Silence is admission’: Legal analysts explain case for prosecuting Fauci despite Biden’s pardon

One legal analyst says the Fifth Amendment is only applicable when there is a reasonable fear of prosecution, which former President Joe Biden ruled out by fully pardoning Fauci.
