Full Biography
Congressman David N. Cicilline is currently serving his fourth term representing Rhode Island’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Cicilline is a member of the House Democratic Leadership as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). He is also a leader in Congress on issues of core American values, serving as Co-Chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus and Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, Cicilline has worked to protect the intellectual property of American entrepreneurs and innovators from piracy and patent infringement to help new businesses grow and create jobs. Cicilline has also been a strong advocate for comprehensive immigration reform and common sense gun safety legislation.
He currently serves as the Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law (RRCAL). As the top Democrat on the Subcomittee, he oversees an expansive portfolio of ensuring access to affordable health care, keeping the courts open to consumers and workers, promoting innovation and economic opportunity through open and competitive markets, keeping the internet open and free through strong net neutrality rules, promoting access to high-speed broadband internet, and holding the Trump administration accountable through oversight. He also sits on the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet.
On the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Cicilline has fought to keep Americans safe against terrorists’ threats while also working to bring our troops home safely and responsibly from Afghanistan and Iraq. Cicilline has also established himself as a leader on human rights and currently serves on the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, and the Subcommittee on Middle East and North Africa….
