The Trump administration on Thursday used a little-known federal deportation court for the first time to seek the removal of an Afghan woman accused of supporting family members involved in an Islamic State-inspired terror plot.

The case marks the inaugural hearing before the United States Alien Terrorist Removal Court, a specialized tribunal created by Congress roughly three decades ago to facilitate the removal of noncitizens accused of terrorism-related activity. Judge Joan Ericksen presided over the court’s first-ever hearing.
