Rand Paul: I Think Intel. Agencies Are Still Doing Gain of Function, ‘They Won’t Give Me Proper Oversight’

Ian Hanchett31 Jul 2026

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) stated that he believes that American intelligence agencies arestill doing gain of function research on monkeypoxand he has been denied proper oversight of the issue.

Paul said, “To me, the most important thing isthat we put scientists into a commission that oversee[s] gain of function research to make sure this doesn’t happen again. My goal is to have legislation here, but then to take our legislation in America and go to the Biological/Chemical Weapons Convention — this is a treaty of all the civilized countries— and try to convince them — you can’t make people do things — but civilized countries should be concerned about this as well. And we should try to work throughout the world to adopt standards, to say, hey.Because the big one they were experimenting on in 2010 is still something people talk about. It’s the avian flu, the bird flu. It can go from birds to humans, not very well, but it doesn’t go human to human. But if someone is setting up a lab and taking the avian flu and infecting mice with human cells and running it through over and over again, what you create is a virus that you have forced the evolution of to adapt to humans. That’s a terrible idea. And we should not be doing it.”

Later, he added, “I think that our intelligence agencies in our country are still doing this. They won’t give me proper oversight of this, but we believe that there are monkeypox experiments going on that are still gain of function. And monkeypox is containable at this point, but I don’t want them changing monkeypox to be more dangerous or spread in a different way.”

Nolte: Thursday ‘Spider-Man; Brand New Day’ Previews Top ‘Supergirl’s’ Entire Run

John Nolte31 Jul 2026

The Thursday previews for Spider-Man: Brand New Day have already out-grossed the entire run of the six-week-old Supergirl.

Brand New Day’sThursday preview take of $75 million has humiliated Supergirl’s total domestic gross of $72 million.

Heck, I was wary about predicting Brand New Day’s first full day in theaters, Friday, would out-gross Supergirl’s $72 million, andSpidey went ahead and did what no one expected with this preview haul.

How big is a Thursday preview gross of $75 million?

It’s unprecedented. The previous record-holder was Avengers: Endgame, which previewed to $60 million. Star Wars: The Force Awakens previewed to $57 million. The twin phenomenons of this summer, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Toy Story 5, previewed to $17.6 million and $17.5 million, respectively.

Somewhere along the way, Brand New Day went from being a summer blockbuster to a full-blown event movie, andone that will likely break Endgame’srecord-opening weekend of $357 million in 2019.Spidey will definitely blow the doors off the movie in second place for biggest opening weekend, which is Spider-Man: No Way Home’s $260 million in 2021.

So what does this tell us?

To begin with, it tells us I was right about absolutely everything when I ridiculed the idea that streaming and COVID and videogames and social media had killed moviegoing. No, I said, what’s killing moviegoing is shitty movies, woke movies, girlboss movies, sexless movies, movies filled with characters no one can relate to (Mary Sues, homosexuals, obnoxious girlbosses), and characters no one likes (smug, perfect, superior).

Then there’s the bullshit excuse about “superhero fatigue.” Again and again, titles like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Deadpool and Wolverine, and The Batman proved that a lie. But an entertainment media dedicated to protecting power by never speaking the truth — the problem is quality — continued blaming “superhero fatigue.”

The formula for success is so simple:appeal to our shared human nature==. In other words, we want to watch likable and attractive actors portray characters we can relate to behave in believable ways as they overcome obstacles to achieve a goal.

Who was Supergirl made for?

Who wanted to watch a weird-looking dwarf play Supergirl, especially when she’s portrayed by a mouthy, insulting, entitled, and divisive actress? You don’t see Tom Holland and Zendaya, the stars of The Odyssey and Brand New Day, running around mouthing off like this. They have something called … class.

Something else I’ve said all along as theWoke Gestapo took over entertainment: eventually reality will fix this. “Reality” being audience rejection and financial failure. Hollywood has spent the last ten years trying to rewire and reject human nature instead of appealing to it.Sorry, but we don’t all want to be humorless, bisexual woketards running around lecturing everyone about the evils of Western Civilization and white guys.

Netflix Sued for $105 Million After Hard Drive of Unreleased Nicholas Cage Movie Stolen

Paul Bois31 Jul 2026

The streaming conglomerate Netflix has been slapped with a $105 million lawsuit after the hard drive for an unreleased Nicholas Cage movie was stolen from his office.

Filed Thursday in California federal court, the lawsuit from writer/producer Simon Afram andhis company, Op-Fortitude, alleged that Netflix stifled “the sale of the World War II spy thriller by losing a copy of the movie that was shared for screening,” per The Hollywood Reporter(THR).

Netflix executives first expressed interest in purchasing Fortitude after receiving promotional materials in December 2025, requesting a working cut in June. According to the lawsuit,Netflix instructed the filmmakers to provide the key to what’s called a digital cinema package — a vehicle through which films are delivered for screening that limits unauthorized access — so the company could internally test the movie.

On June 15, a producer for Fortitude hand-delivered the drive to Netflix’s office at Sunset Bronson Studios. The producer allegedly told Netflix that the DCP was unencrypted and instructed the company to delete the files after the screening before notifying him when the drive was ready to be picked up.

Ten days later, a Netflix executive disclosed that it was stolen, according to the complaint.

A source confirmed toTHR it was an unencrypted master copy of the film, titled Fortitude, that was one of several drives stolen from Netflix’s office last month.

Netflix disputed the claim in a statement.

“Netflix disputes any claim that it bears the risk of loss for a film delivered without the proper industry-standard safeguards,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “While we do not own the rights to Fortitude, we take content security seriously and have taken extra measures to support the filmmaker and his team. This includes conducting a thorough investigation and offering to monitor known piracy sites for any unauthorized distribution or sale.”

In an email dated June 25,Sean Berney, Netflix’s head of film acquisitions, said that that “someone stole a good amount of drives from our office desks this past week.”

“We’ve been working through this with out security teams to no luck. Our piracy teams are on high alert with the breach and will monitor,” Berney added in the email.

The lawsuit seeks $105 million in damages, alleging that Netflix did not disclosed if it filed a police report to investigate the alleged theft. Netflix, however, said it refused to share details of the investigation after Afram demanded $165 million for the movie in a “hostile attempt to extort money.”

Due to the theft, the lawsuit claims that the sale of the film has been tampered since producers would have to disclose the theft to distributors.

Report: Poll Shows Gov. Hochul Clinging to 4-Point Lead as Voters Sour

Mariane Angela30 Jul 2026

New York Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) leads Republican Bruce Blakeman by just four points in the race for governor, according to a new poll made public this week.

The survey, conducted by Red Oak Strategicfor the pro-Blakeman Strong and Safe super PAC, put Hochul at 47 percent to Blakeman’s 43 percent, with 10 percent undecided, the New York Postreported Tuesday. Red Oak surveyed 2,000 registered voters from July 7 to July 12.

Red Oak said the results point to trouble for the incumbent. “The environment favors a challenger: just 33% say New York is headed in the right direction vs. 57% wrong track,” the firm wrote in a July 21 memo to interested parties.

The poll indicates only 39 percent of voters approved of her job performance, while 56 percent disapproved. Only 33 percent said she deserves another term. Some 61 percent said it is time for someone else.

Hochul’s favorability sat underwater at 38 percent favorable to 58 percent unfavorable.Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, drew a positive rating, though 47 percent of voterssaid they had never heard of him or had no opinion.

The survey showed the Republican leading independents 54 percent to 33 percent and running strongest in the suburbs. Red Oak’s turnout model projected aRepublican enthusiasm edge, with 73 percent of GOP voterscalling themselves much more interested in the race, compared with 44 percent of Democrats.

The poll comes asNew York Democrats confront voter frustration over the cost of living and the direction of the state. Con Edison cut power to a Bronx Jewish neighborhood during a July heat wave, and the Justice Department sued state health officials over a $10 billion Medicaid program.

A Siena College survey released in June showed Hochul ahead by 20 points, and the RealClearPolling average lists her up more than 17.

Friends of Kathy Hochul reported $21 million on hand, plus $22 million in the state Democrat Party account, more than four times what Blakeman and the state GOP have raised.

Madison Square Garden owner James Dolan, who backs Strong and Safe, steered $700,000 to the super PAC through MSG Entertainment and MSG Sports this month, according to campaign filings.
