I'm sure you've seen the click bait by now. ANTHROPIC IS DESTROYING RARE BOOKS! Here is the truth (assuming you actually care about the truth.)
SCANNING a book does not require destroying the book, so why is Anthopic doing it?
A US court made the ruling that the only way to train AI with the content of a book was to destroy the original, so Anthropic was forced, by law, to destroy a few million used books.
The US alone destroys and discards 100 times that many books every year when publishers, libraries or individuals throw them out because there is only a very small market for used books.
In other words, all those books destroyed by Anthropic and hundreds of millions just like them were headed for the land fill either way.
They aren't burning libraries or destroying rare books. They are following a legal ruling and intercepting 1% of the books Americans were already sending to land fills, scanning them, and recycling the paper.
