Coyotes overtake abandoned housing development, vexing neighbors
A West Hollywood pack making its home in what’s been dubbed a “coyote condo” is drawing curious onlookers and concern from nearby residents.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — In a region where the demand for housing outpaces its supply, a pack of coyotes have made a vacant construction site their home.
For months, residents in the dense West Hollywood neighborhood say they have complained about the coyotes. At night, the coyote howls echo through the development keeping residents awake. During the day, some dog owners say they worry about the safety of their furry companions.
This week, the neighborly dispute became a local spectacle after news outlets reported on the coyotes’ home, dubbed by a neighbor as the “coyote condos.”
Over the past week, the block has been flooded with onlookers and reporters and even a helicopter trying to capture an image of the coyotes from above. With all the attention, the pack has not been coming out as early. The howls come later and later into the night.
“It’s kind of like a cacophony of howls,” neighbor Collin Newman said, describing how the structure amplifies the coyote’s cries in every direction. Newman, who has lived in the neighborhood for ten years, captured the howls from across the street. “If you’ve ever seen ‘The Lion King,’ imagine a pack of hyenas in the middle of the wilderness. And there’s no escape.”

Neighbors say the site has been vacant for years. Already under construction in 2018, the development faced opposition from neighbors and the West Hollywood Planning Commission, according to an article from WEHOonline.
The city of West Hollywood said construction on the unfinished 22-unit condominium building was halted in 2024. It sits in a densely populated block of shoulder to shoulder apartment buildings, over a mile from any open wild space.
Across Los Angeles, coyote sightings are common. While some generally avoid human contact others can lose their fear of humans and pose a risk, especially to dogs and cats.
“The scary part is when we walk the dogs.” Jesus Zavala, a neighbor, said while walking his Chihuahua, Zoe. “They can just come out and grab dogs, especially the small ones.”
But after four or five months the coyotes are now commonplace, Zavala said, and he is no longer nervous to take Zoe out at night. Many that walk their dogs in the neighborhood look unbothered. The fire hydrants and street signs are all fully utilized….

Bill Maher taunted his audience after stunning them into silence in a takedown of Democratic socialists and their ascent in the Democratic Party.
On Friday’s Real Time, Maher used his “new rule” segment to put progressive Democrats on blast, calling the Democratic Socialists of America “communists” who are barely hiding it.
“And finally, new rule, [President] Donald Trump has told one trillion lies,but when he says the Democratic Socialists of America are actually communist, that’s not one of them. And it’s not hard to prove it, just by quoting the DSA and their candidates. It gives me no pleasure to have to do this,” Maher said.
He warned his own vote is “in play” because of how far left he’s seen his party go. He called out controversial punditHasan Piker, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D), and an officialunder Mamdani, Cea Weaver.
Maher said:
Not to leave any doubt, New York Mayor Mamdani once tweeted Karl Marx’s words exactly. They’re not trying to hide it.
Their most popular influencer, Hasan Piker, thinks communism is so groovy. He laments the fall of the two of the most murderous regimes in history, the Soviet Union and Chairman Mao’s China.
Mamdani’s aide, his top aide, Cea Weaver said, if you don’t believe in the government’s sacred right to seize property, it’s over — and impoverish the white middle class. What? That’s a goal? You know you’re supposed to scare people into voting foryou, right?
Maher added, “That’s communism, which we tried and it doesn’t work.”
He called out the DSA and accused the organization of embracing communism and earned a dead silence from his audience when he referred to a social media post from Weaver.
He said:
The DSA itself has switched. Even five years ago, it shunned communists. That changed. Things change. Now the coalition within the DSA, called the Marxist Unity Group, is in ascendance. And I must take them at their word, when their words include, our commitment is to the long-term struggle for a fully liberated, classless society — in a word, communism. What do they have to do? Tweet out, elect more communists? Oh yeah, see, Cea Weaver did that.
As the audience fell silent, Maher said, “Yes. Good, I’m glad you’re shocked.”
Maher warned again his vote is “in play.”
“Yes, my vote is in play. I’m not voting for anyone who thinks the wrong side won the Cold War or cheers for the Intifada like it’s the World Cup,” he said.

U.S. Embassies Urge Citizens in the Middle East to ‘Be Prepared to Depart’ Amid ‘Fluid’ Situation with Iran

U.S. embassies in the Middle East issued simultaneous warnings Saturday for citizens to “be prepared to depart” the region, citing the “unpredictable” Iranian regime.
The warning comes as CBS News reported the United States and Israel are preparing for a new round of strikes against energy infrastructure in Iran.
Word of a possible new round of strikes comes as President Donald Trump is facing pressure at home over the war, with critics fearing the conflict has become an unwinnable quagmire.

Due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation.
Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions.
Some airlines in the region have postponed resumption of earlier flight schedules; others have cancelled some routes. Americans in the region should consider departing, or be prepared to depart should there be escalation.
Americans outside the Middle East should seriously reconsider travel to and through the region.Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations.
U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.
The situation in the Middle East remains fluid. The Iranian regime is unpredictable, as seen by its recent decisions to attack areas in the region without warning or provocations as well as to expand attacks to areas not previously targeted (such as Egypt). Americans should remain vigilant, as merely because U.S. interests or businesses have not been attacked in a country in the past does not ensure their safety.
The caution comes as officials in Kuwait said the country intercepted Iranian drones this morning which targeted “vital” sites.

MTG Teams Up With Tucker Carlson and Thomas Massie to Plot New Political Party: ‘The Movement Has Begun’

Former Republicans Majorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson are apparently serious about their plans to launch a new political party — and they’ve got some help too.
Greene posted a picture on Saturday of her and her new husband Brian Glenn sitting at a wooden table headed by Carlson, who was flanked by lame duck Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and another ex-fan of President Donald Trump: Joe Kent, the former director of the National Counterterrorism Center who quit earlier this year in protest of the Iran war. Massie and Kent’s wife are also seated at the table.
Everyone appears to be pretty jolly in the picture — and focused on their mission to upend American politics.
“We said no more foreign wars and we meant it and supported Donald Trump because he made that promise. But he’s betrayed us all,” Greene wrote. “Our commitment is America First for all Americans, right, left, and center.”
“The movement has begun,” Greene capped off her post.
And the gang’s fuel-of-choice for the plotting session? A batch of chocolate chip cookies and milk, based on the spread on the table.
MTG’s pic comes a month after Carlson said he was working to “help build” a new third party. Carlson said it was imperative because the Republicans and Democrats are too busy worrying about foreign affairs while the lives of average Americans crumble.
His announcement followed Carlson saying in June he was done voting for Republicans. MTG made the same announcement soon after.
“How could I or any American voter support a political party that’s not loyal to the United States. That puts the interests of a foreign country above those of its own citizens,” Carlson said. “It’s not possible to vote for people like that, and I’m not going to.”
Carlson was referring to Israel, a country he has been fixated on. He said Trump’s 2024 campaign was funded largely by people with “loyalty to Israel,” which is now forcing the president to make decisions not in the best interest of the USA.
Trump has scoffed at those kinds of claims, saying in March about the Iran war,“If anything, I might’ve forced Israel’s hand.”
