US Army Abruptly Removes Top General Overseeing Forces in Europe

The US Army removed a top general overseeing the troops in Europe from command in recent days. However, Lt. Gen. Charles Costanza was sacked when he was just close to two months before his time in the role was coming to an end, two officials close to the matter told The Hill on Friday.

Lt Gen. Costanza was commanding general of the Army’s V Corps, a forward-deployed corps headquartered at Fort Knox, Ky., and Camp Kościuszko, Poland. When asked for comment, the Army confirmed to The Hill about Costanza’s removal, adding the matter was “referred to the appropriate authority in accordance with Army regulations.”

Brig. Gen. John B. Mountford, deputy commanding general of readiness for V Corps, will serve as the acting commanding general, an Army spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Thomas Feltey, who was nominated for promotion to lieutenant general last month, will be assuming the role in October.

Costanza’s abrupt removal came as more than two dozen senior military officers have been removed or sidelined under the Pentagon’s leadership of Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. This overhaul has impacted the country's army significantly.

In an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung published on Friday, Sanger argued that Wikipedia’s lack of an adequate governance structure allowed “specific ideological viewpoints” to shape its content, turning the online encyclopedia into a “globalist, academic, secular and progressive” consensus.

“Wikipedia was recognized early on as an important propaganda organ,” Sanger told the outlet. He argued that while the platform’s anonymity policy makes it difficult to determine who edits its content, “what we know as fact, based on all sorts of evidence, is that the CIA has already edited Wikipedia.”

Evidence of CIA and FBI edits first emerged in 2007 after programmer Virgil Griffith created WikiScanner, a tool linking anonymous Wikipedia edits to organizations’ IP addresses. The tool attributed edits to the CIA, FBI, corporations, and government agencies, including changes to Iraq War casualty figures.

“Wikipedia is already compromised. That’s clear,” he said. Sanger argued that any ideological bias embedded in Wikipedia is now being amplified because large language models increasingly rely on its content as a reference source when answering factual queries.

To address the problems, he proposed sweeping reforms, including public identities for senior functionaries, due-process protections in disciplinary cases, public article ratings, and elected officials responsible for setting Wikipedia policy.

Sanger is not the only prominent critic of Wikipedia. Conservative commentators have long accused Wikipedia, which relies on donations, of betraying its promise of neutrality on contentious topics. Elon Musk mocked the platform as “Wokipedia” and once offered $1 billion if it agreed to rename itself “Dickipedia” for a year.

Pentagon accuses ex-Air Force chief of leaking state secrets

The War Department has revoked Frank Kendall’s security clearance over reports about Trump’s presidential jet

The Pentagon has revoked the security clearance of former US Air Force chief Frank Kendall, whom it accused of leaking classified information about Donald Trump’s Qatari-gifted presidential aircraft.

“This action follows his unauthorized disclosure of classified information regarding Air Force One’s capabilities to a media outlet,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement on X on Friday.

“Safeguarding classified information is a non-negotiable duty. Those who violate that trust forfeit the privilege of access and any role requiring it,” he added.

The decision came after multiple news outlets reported that the modified luxury Boeing 747-8 donated to Trump by the Qatari government last year did not have the same security and defense capabilities as the older Air Force One.

MS NOW and The New York Times reported that Trump swapped the Qatari-gifted plane for the original Air Force One last month to fly from a NATO summit in Türkiye to the UK amid fears of an Iranian plot against his life.

Last month, the Department of Justice issued subpoenas to Times reporters after the newspaper published a story detailing security concerns over the plane. The DOJ later dropped the subpoenas after a judge said the investigation violated protections afforded to journalists.

Kendall, who served under Joe Biden between 2021 and 2025, told CNN last month that he believes the new jet would require three to four years of modifications to meet the standards of the older presidential aircraft in terms of life support, communications, and security.

Trump has repeatedly accused the media of spreading “fake” stories about him and his presidency and has sought to crack down on leaks. Most recently, he vowed to hunt down and jail “leakers” following reports that the US had largely depleted its missile stockpile during the war with Iran. He denied the claim, describing the country’s ammunition stockpile as “unlimited.”

Larry Nordone, husband to the late Lindsey Graham's sister, and now U.S. Senator, Darline Nordone, owns a company which sought to profit by obtaining contracts with the government of South Carolina to sell PPE, National File can exclusively report.

Nordone's company, Birchwood Trading, chased the contracts with South Carolina's Division of Procurement Services.

National File uncovered the documents in a list of vendors at procurement.sc.gov, the role of which was to assist state agencies in evaluating whether to do business with vendors like Nordone's.

Nordone is listed as the "point of contact" for Birchwood Trading in the Division of Procurement Services spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet lists https://birchwoodtrading.net as the company's website, which leads to an under construction message from Birchwood naming Nordone as the sole point of contact.

Despite the inactive website, Birchwood has a social media presence online, both on Facebook and LinkedIn.

The company's LinkedIn page identifies Birchwood Trading, LLC as a Columbia, South Carolina wholesale business. The profile describes Birchwood as a "family owned home textile company" and says it has assembled a collection of fabrics, accessories, and textiles.

A 2018 Lufkin Daily News report also linked Nordone to Birchwood in connection with a charitable teddy-bear project. That record, as well as the company’s public social-media pages, reflects a business associated with home textiles and retail products.

The Division of Procurement Services spreadsheet says it was compiled to assist state agencies evaluating companies seeking to provide PPE and other COVID-19 emergency products. The spreadsheet states that each agency was responsible for deciding whether the information was sufficient to proceed, and that nothing in the list constituted an endorsement or non-endorsement of a vendor.

THE POLITICAL CONTEXT

The records surface as Darline Graham seeks to retain the Senate seat she was appointed to fill after the death of her brother, former Senator Lindsey Graham. Legal Insurrection reported that Graham’s campaign is facing an August 11 special Republican primary, with Republican operatives and lawmakers raising questions over whether President Donald Trump’s endorsement will carry her to victory.

As noted in the Legal Insurrection report's commentary, the candidate recently rebranded herself from Darline Nordone back to her maiden name of Darline Graham—dropping her husband's surname as she campaigns for her late brother's seat.

Asif, who has in the past called Israel “evil and a curse for humanity,” and a “cancerous state,” told the interviewers that his fierce opposition to Israel will not change even if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is defeated in this year’s elections, which are set for October 27.

“No matter who comes to power in Jerusalem – whether it’s [former premier Naftali] Bennett or any other leader – the differences are only marginal,” Asif said.

“Their attitude towards the Palestinians and their anti-Islamic mindset will not disappear. They continue to incite Muslim countries against each other,” he charged, “and as long as the Palestinian issue is not permanently resolved, the Islamic world must stand against them as one.”

Google DeepMind CEO and four other AI leaders step down

Alphabet shares dropped on Wednesday after the company announced a big shakeup at its artificial-intelligence division.

Demis Hassabis, who shared the Nobel Prize with Jumper, was the CEO of Google’s DeepMind AI lab, and he will step back to become DeepMind’s chairman and Alphabet Chief Scientist. Koray Kavukcuoglu will replace him, but as a senior vice president.

Jeff Dean, who was Google’s 30th employee in 1999 and has led much of the company’s artificial-intelligence research over the past 15 years, is leaving the company to start a new firm.

Dean’s new company is called Discovery Loop, and it’s aimed at automating science and engineering research. He will be joined by three other Google engineering luminaries: Oriol Vinyals, Quoc Le and Sanjay Ghemawat. The four have been responsible for many of the company’s breakthroughs in AI research and computing, and their departures could weigh on Google’s AI efforts, particularly in the near term.

They join four other prominent Google AI scientists who left the company in June: Noam Shazeer, Nobel Prize winner John Jumper, Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel.

Alphabet’s Gemini artificial-intelligence models have generally been viewed as trailing those from OpenAI and Anthropic, and these moves may be seen as a reflection of Google’s third-place status.
