These Curious Ancient Greek Artifacts Have Extraterrestrial Origins—Why They Vanished 3000 Years Ago Remains a Mystery

Deep within ancient chamber tombs where elite members of society in ancient Greece and Crete were once laid to rest, new evidence has emerged that these high-status individuals wore some out-of-this-world iron jewelry.
Among the most coveted jewelry worn in the Bronze Age Mediterranean world were rings that were likely made from extraterrestrial iron, according to a new study published in the Journal of Archaeological Science.
Researchers Matthieu Gounelle and Eleni Mantzourani used chemical analysis to examine more than 90 iron objects from the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, uncovered from 33 archaeological sites, revealing that about one-third of the artifacts were likely crafted using iron that fell from space.
Although iron harvested from ancient meteorites accounted for at least 10 of the rings the researchers examined, another three “might deserve further examination,” the study’s authors say, in new observations that indicate these ancient extraterrestrial adornments “may have been popular power symbols among prominent individuals” that included the Mycenaean and Minoan palatial elite.
Yet despite their apparent significance, the otherworldly fashion trend involving these otherworldly rings seems to have mysteriously vanished by the 12th century BCE, for reasons that remain unclear to researchers.
Meteoritic Iron as a Status Symbol
Using portable X-ray fluorescence, or XRF, to assess these rare artifacts in various museums where they are kept, most of the objects were found to contain very little nickel, if any at all.
This is consistent with iron produced using smelting processes from the periods in question, which relied on terrestrial ores.
However, 13 of the objects possessed elevated levels of nickel, which hinted at the likelihood that some of these ancient rings had been crafted with metal originating in meteorites, which contain far more nickel than smelted varieties of iron do.
Another intriguing discovery the researchers made was that each artifact suspected of being made from meteoritic iron was either a whole or fragmentary signet or bezel ring, combining the suspected meteoritic iron with gold, silver, or bronze.
Most were also found in various chamber tombs alongside other luxury goods, adding to the likelihood that these unique artifacts may have been considered symbols of status or authority.
Where Did Ancient Greeks Obtain Extraterrestrial Iron?
However, another mystery involves the source of the meteoritic material, which remains uncertain since extraterrestrial iron was uncommon in ancient Greece.
Because of this, the team suspects that one reason for this material’s role as a status symbol may have been not just its otherworldly nature, but also the fact that it was likely imported.
“Given the rarity of meteorites in Greece and the established trade networks during the Bronze Age, we propose that the source of the raw meteoritic material was Egypt,” the team writes, “where meteorites are numerous due to the abundance of deserts.”
Several famous examples of meteoritic iron have been recovered from Egypt, which include a dagger found among the items entombed with the Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
The abundance of rings made from this extraterrestrial metal contrasts with the more common iron objects that appear to have been made from smelted material.
This suggests that ancient metalworkers recognized the distinction between the materials, and ascribed higher value to the far rarer meteoritic forms of iron.
An Otherworldly Fashion Trend Goes Missing
Curiously, the researchers also found that by around the 12th century BCE, this otherworldly fashion trend appears to have almost completely vanished, and for reasons that remain unclear.
Possible reasons for this may include interruptions to trade networks, political upheaval, or simply changes in trends from the period.
However, one potential clue is that the ancient Greeks’ production of meteoritic iron rings seems to have ended coinciding with the collapse of the Mycenaean palace system.
“Such a development could be related to economic, social or political changes,” the team speculates, although they also acknowledge more mundane possibilities.
“It is also possible that the meteoritic finger ring fashion, almost exclusive to Minoan and Mycenaean Late Bronze Age, has ‘naturally’ faded away as does any fashion,” the researchers write.
The recent study, “Iron in Greece in the second millennium B.C.E.,” appeared in the Journal of Archaeological Science.

A pair of classified videos allegedly showing a 100-foot black triangular UFO over a Colorado military base remain locked away despite President Trump’s new order aimed at encouraging more UFO whistleblowers to come forward, sources familiar with the footage told The Post.
Two videos, recorded on a service member’s personal cellphone on consecutive nights in 2023, are among the pieces of evidence whistleblowers say still cannot be discussed or released publicly because they remain classified by the Air Force, sources said.
Those videos — which captured the craft zooming over mountains and actively camouflaging in clouds — are stored with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations in Colorado, file numbers IRR1669S015524 and IRR1669S005024, according to those sources.
Previous UFO whistleblowers warn that “nothing has changed” after Trump’s new order waiving nondisclosure agreements for more people with special knowledge on government programs to report to executive branch agencies — and that the best evidence is still behind a wall of classification.
“This does nothing for the people who could have come forward and spoken already,” Dylan Borland, a US Air Force Veteran and former private contractor, told The Post. “Nothing has changed.”
Borland testified to Congress in 2024 that he also witnessed a massive triangular UFO hovering over a NASA hangar for a few minutes without making a sound before rapidly ascending to the level of commercial jets in mere seconds.
“I’ve done the committees, done private meetings, at this point, unless I’m speaking under oath to the public, what’s the point?” Borland said.
Matthew Brown, a former defense industry contractor, came forward on the Weaponized Podcast in early 2026 to reveal to the public just some of what he told to Congress and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence behind closed doors — that there was a secret Pentagon program called “Immaculate Constellation” that studied, collected data and recovered UFOs.
“[Trump’s order] frankly doesn’t do anything new,” said Brown. “It does not free whistleblowers to speak publicly.”
Both Brown and Borland were on the receiving end of professional reprisals and character assassinations after they blew the whistle to AARO and ODNI.
Borland alleges he faced retaliation after blowing the whistle — including problems with his security clearance, workplace harassment and a derailed career.
Brown lost his job as a contractor and was smeared as an antisemite to reporters after he went through the proper channels of whistleblowing, he claimed on the Weaponized podcast.
“AARO and ODNI should not have any leadership role in this project as they have discredited themselves,” Brown stated.
Several more potential whistleblowers are unmoved by the Trump administration directive and are still holding back their testimonies and best evidence, according to sources.
Some, however, are supportive of the president.
“I welcome President Trump’s action and hope it gives courage to those who have said nondisclosure agreements prevented them from telling Congress or the Executive Branch what they know,” David Grusch, a former Air Force intelligence officer and UFO whistleblower, told The Post.
“I was the first whistleblower to file an Inspector General complaint alleging that these UAP legacy programs were being concealed from awful oversight, and I later testified under oath in both classified and public settings.
“I paid a severe personal and professional price for doing so. Others should not have to face the same barriers or retaliation to tell the truth.”

The Pentagon's fifth batch of UAP files is out, and most of it is filler. Two items in that release actually matter. Here is which two, and what the release still refuses to tell you.
On August 7, 2026, the Department of War released the fifth tranche of UAP records under PURSUE, the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters.
The first tranche landed May 8. This one arrived the way the others did, a stack of documents and video with no explanation attached.
I went through it and came away with two items worth your time. First, an Air Force gunship crew whose own onboard sensors recorded objects that do not fly like anything we have built.
Second, a pattern of eyewitness accounts that keeps showing up decade after decade from people who have never met each other. When strangers keep describing the same thing, that is worth taking seriously. The rest, in his words, is confetti.
The bigger problem is not what was released. It is what did not come with it. No context. No word on whether any investigation is open, closed, or being worked at all.
A presidential directive lifted the gag order on government employees who signed NDAs, but those people can still only talk to the same office that has been deciding what the public gets to see. That is not opening a door. That is moving the lock to a different room.
So I'm asking a fair question. Is this being held back for national security, or is somebody trying to get a head start on whatever makes these things move?
I believes the president wants the truth out. Somewhere between that order and the website, somebody is choosing. Nobody has said who.
