FLOCK's drones are allowed to peer inside of your windows, and you cannot legally stop them other than shutting the curtains or binds. Give it time, soon they will mandate cameras INSIDE of your house. YesINSIDE. You probably think that's absurd, but 10 years ago you would have thought cameras inside of your car watching you drive, and cameras on every street corner was absurd too.

Traffic cameras 20 years ago were 360p, and did not have;

  • AI for cataloging all bumper stickers, all dents and scratches to create a unique profile for each vehicle which passes by

  • Facial recognition of vehicle passengers

  • License plate reader

  • Bluetooth scanning and fingerprinting

  • WiFi scanning and fingerprinting

Many tech-savvy in users have ditched Ring for other options that are entirely on-prem. This was spurred by their creeper Superbowl. There are other options that only store video locally, but still help negotiate a connection between your phone and your device, without collecting the video. That feature can also be completely disabled, allowing people that are more knowable to use their own on-site VPN or an external service like Tailscale. In short, people are aware of what Ring is doing, and are moving away from it. Sure some won't because it's "convenient", but they also have things like Alexa in their homes spying on them as well.

True. There was a guy who worked for a home security company who got caught signing into many homes over many years, that had "attractive" women living in them. He was eventually caught and arrested, but it probably happens very often.

 

Cloudless on-prem NVRs and storage is the only way to go if you value your privacy.
