Bishop Paprocki, doctors sue Illinois over assisted suicide law

Illinoisโ€™ radical law requires Catholic and other religious healthcare providers to promote euthanasia and refer patients for assisted suicide drugs, the Thomas More Law Center warned.

if this plays out anything like obamacare did in new york, a settlement will be reached that exempts the "church" but otherwise upholds the precedent for everyone else.

Ancient Babylon lies in what is now central Iraq, roughly 85โ€“90 km (about 55 miles) south of Baghdad, near the modern city of Hillah in Babil Governorate, on a branch of the Euphrates River. This is the same region where Hammurabi ruled and where the Code of Hammurabi was produced.

During the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, coalition forces established a military base known as Camp Alpha (also called Camp Babylon) directly on and around the archaeological ruins of ancient Babylon beginning in April 2003. The base expanded to cover a large portion of the site and housed thousands of troops (primarily American, later Polish-led). It remained in use until late 2004, when control was returned to Iraqi authorities.

Reports from the British Museum, UNESCO, and Iraqi officials documented damage caused by the military presence, including:

โ€ข Digging trenches through archaeological layers

โ€ข Heavy vehicles crushing ancient brick pavements

โ€ข Construction of helicopter pads and parking areas

โ€ข Use of soil containing artifacts to fill sandbags

โ€ข Some removal or damage to decorative bricks and structures

Saddam Hussein had earlier reconstructed parts of the site and built a palace overlooking it, presenting himself as a modern successor to Nebuchadnezzar. After 2003 the palace was used by coalition forces.

So the connection is both ancient (Babylon as the historical heart of the region that became Iraq) and modern (the physical occupation of the ruins by U.S.-led forces during the invasion and its aftermath). The site was later designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019.
