You’ve hit a nail on the head. AI is still being programmed by humans. None of them are really doing anything by themselves yet. They are aggregating rearranging and regurgitating. But they must go to the internet for material— those millions and millions of internet search results that you once could see but no longer can. They can. But they aggregate a consensus from those pages, rearrange it, enhance it, censor it, whether words or images, and then regurgitate it. AI can create NOTHING by itself yet.
I think the masses are being shown what it could become and are in training to use it but never trust it.
