The Greek Roswell: UFO Sightings in Greece Nobody Talks About
August 17, 2026
While international attention tends to focus on the Pentagon’s declassified files or sightings over the American Southwest, Greece has quietly accumulated its own extensive catalog of UFO sightings—also known as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs)—rivaling anything held in United States or United Kingdom government archives.
UFO sightings in Greece include mass sightings witnessed by entire village communities in the 1950s and hard radar contacts tracked by Hellenic Air Force controllers.
The country’s documented history of anomalous aerial activity is indeed substantial and largely overlooked by the wider world.
The UFO sightings of Thessaly and Lesbos in the 1950s
One of the most well-documented incidents of UFO sightings in Greece takes us back to the autumn of 1954.
A massive wave of sightings swept across the country, particularly over the Eastern Aegean island of Lesbos and the region of Thessaly in central mainland Greece.
What is worth noting here is that these weren’t isolated stories from some lone shepherds out in the hills. Entire villages, places like Vrisa, Anemotia, and Agiasos, watched the skies light up.
The witnesses included local council presidents, police officers, and whole crowds of people backing up each other’s stories—a fundamental ingredient in a story like this to be considered at least somewhat credible.
Keep in mind, this was 1954. You couldn’t blame a weird light on a rogue consumer drone or a Starlink satellite. Even airplanes were a rare sight above Greece at the time, especially in places like Lesbos or Thessaly.
People were watching intensely bright objects perform maneuvers that effectively defied the laws of physics. Even today, with all our advanced sensors and tracking tech, we would struggle to explain what those villagers saw.
The radar incident of 1990
Things took an undeniable turn in 1990, moving from village squares right into the control towers of Greece’s airports.
Three separate air traffic controllers, watching state-of-the-art radar, picked up something entirely unexplainable. It was a cigar-shaped craft ripping through Greek airspace at over 3,000 miles per hour.
At first, people thought this was probably a glitch. However, it soon proved to be a physical object painting a hard target on military radar screens, prompting the Hellenic Air Force to open an official file for the case.
When aviation professionals witness something like this, it carries serious weight, as the number one hypothesis is enemy aircraft. These are people trained to instantly recognize weather balloons, civilian planes, and natural atmospheric tricks.
It is their job to differentiate among these to avoid unnecessary concerns. At the time, someone floated the idea that it might just be classified American laser testing.
That said, a laser doesn’t usually trip highly calibrated radar systems designed to track physical mass. This was not the first time airport experts spotted something akin to a UFO.
Elite radar operators tracking impossible machines is a frequent phenomenon, proving that whatever these things are, they don’t care much about international borders.
The “Roswell” UFO incident of Greece
Perhaps the most outrageous event, however, one that researchers often refer to as the “Greek Roswell,” happened that same year on September 2, 1990.
Over the area of Megaplatanos in Central Greece, witnesses watched a squadron of strange lights moving across the night sky before one of them seemed to suffer a catastrophic failure.
People reported seeing it plunge to the earth, causing a massive fire, slicing cleanly through tree trunks, and scattering metallic debris everywhere.
The weirdest part was that the surviving lights didn’t disappear. They reportedly hovered right over the crash site, almost like they were running a rescue or recovery operation, before finally shooting away into the dark.
Naturally, the Hellenic Air Force showed up fast. They cordoned off the entire area and quickly put out a statement blaming the mess on a falling Soviet satellite.
In practice, though, that explanation didn’t sit right with the locals who had just watched other craft stop to pick up the pieces.
It’s that exact kind of disconnect, the government’s official line versus what people actually saw with their own two eyes, that keeps the UFO (UAP) disclosure movement pushing for answers today.

"There is an agreement between the U.S. government and aliens": Former Israeli space security chief's wild claim
Aug 17, 2026
Know all about the wild claims about aliens made by Haim Eshed, the former head of Israel’s Defense Ministry’s space directorate.
A "galactic federation" and a secret underground Mars base
This might just be the wildest alien theory you have come across to date, and it came straight from Haim Eshed, the former head of Israel’s Defense Ministry’s space directorate.
During an interview with the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot in 2020, Eshed said that aliens not only exist but have also been in contact with his country and the United States for years.
"There is an agreement between the U.S. government and the aliens.
They signed a contract with us to do experiments here," he said, adding that the agreement covered an “underground base in the depths of Mars,” which houses American astronauts and alien representatives.
These aliens, Eshed alleged, are from a “galactic federation” that is equally curious about humanity and is trying to understand the fabric of the universe.
Donald Trump was “on the verge of revealing” everything
If the U.S. government is involved in a secret cooperation with a “galactic federation,” then naturally the president should also be in the know.
Eshed claimed that Donald Trump, who’s currently in his second term as the president of the country, was “on the verge of revealing” the existence of the extraterrestrial beings but was stopped by the galactic federation, which apparently wanted to prevent mass hysteria.
“The Unidentified Flying Objects have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet,” said Eshed, who had overseen the launch of Israel’s first satellite, Ofek 1, in 1988, and numerous others into space.
“They have been waiting until today for humanity to develop and reach a stage where we will understand, in general, what space and spaceships are,” he added.
Why Eshed kept it a secret for so long
As for why he had not spoken about any of this before, Eshed’s explanation, in a way, echoed the opinion of the so-called galactic federation about humanity.
"If I had come up with what I'm saying today five years ago, I would have been hospitalized," he told Yediot. "Today, they're already talking differently. I have nothing to lose. I've received my degrees and awards, I am respected in universities abroad."
Trump's establishment of the U.S. Space Force: A coincidence?
Interestingly, about a year before Eshed’s interview came out, Trump had signed the National Defense Authorization Act on December 20, 2019, to establish the U.S. Space Force, which became the first new branch of the armed services since 1947.
“Space is the world's newest warfighting domain," Trump said at the signing. "Amid grave threats to our national security, American superiority in space is absolutely vital. We're leading, but we're not leading by enough, and very shortly, we'll be leading by a lot.”
How the world reacted to Eshed's claims
The claims made by Eshed, who was 87 at the time, sparked a joke fest on social media, with many new accounts claiming to be representatives of the so-called galactic federation.
Meanwhile, Isaac Ben-Israel, the former chairman of the Israel Space Agency, thought Eshed had gone overboard with his claims.
“Is there intelligent life outside [Earth]? 10 years ago, most scientists believed chances are very low.
We now believe chances are significant,” he told The Times of Israel. “This doesn’t mean there’s a ‘Galactic Federation’ and they landed on Earth—this is too much.”
In May this year, the U.S. Department of War began releasing never-before-seen files on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) as part of the Trump administration’s transparency push. But the files are far from conclusive evidence of alien life.
The image, released by the Department of War, is an artistic interpretation of a reported incident potentially involving UAP in the western United States in 2026

Most of the Real Estate is Beyond Earth, and Worth Investing In!
August 13, 2026
The Center for Astrophysics is located on “Observatory Hill” of the Harvard University campus.
This hill was chosen in 1844 as the best real estate location for the Harvard College Observatory, where the Great Refractor telescope (described here) was placed a few years later, as it represents the high point in the area to avoid city lights.
This academic setting is dormant in the early morning hours, especially during the summer. However, yesterday and today it was bustling with secret service agents who checked my office and nearby facilities to make sure that it represents a safe haven.
You may wonder: safe haven for what? As it turns out, all this hustle was in preparation for an interview I had this morning with Lara Trump for her weekly show “My view” which airs on Fox News each Saturday at 9 PM Eastern time.
A few hours after my morning jog at sunrise, I arrived at my office and found most of its furniture in the lounge of the Institute for Theory and Computation, for which I served as director over the past twenty years.
The neighboring office of my scientific collaborator, Dr. Fabio Pacucci, was turned into a makeup room.
As I welcomed Lara, she said that after mentioning to her friends that she is traveling to meet me, they said: “Wow, this will be an amazing conversation.” I replied: “Thank you, Lara. I will do my best not to disappoint you and your friends.”
During the interview, Lara asked me about topics related to my service as chair of the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Science Advisory Council to the White House, the Pentagon, the FBI and the intelligence community, including:
UAP Disclosure & What Has Changed — Recent Pentagon disclosures, scientific research, and whether we’re closer to answers.
Analysis of Declassified UAP Videos — What the footage shows and whether there is evidence of extraterrestrial activity.
Better Equipment & Data Collection — What technology and instruments the military should use to investigate UAP encounters.
Theories About UAP “Glowing Orbs” — Possible explanations and what evidence would confirm them.
Unreleased Government Evidence — Whistleblower claims, withheld footage, and what additional evidence researchers want to see.
The Scientific “Smoking Gun” — Why we lack definitive high-resolution evidence and what would constitute proof.
Galileo Project Findings — Results from the observatories and any unexplained phenomena detected.
Criticism of UAP Research — What critics misunderstand about the scientific approach to studying UAPs.
UAPs & National Security — Potential Chinese, Russian, or adversarial technology and the evolving security threat.
We completed the interview with a brief visit to the Great Refractor telescope. This piece of history symbolizes the tradition of looking up towards the sky for answers about our cosmic neighborhood.
As I explained yesterday in two other television interviews (here and here), we should look up not only during this week’s Solar eclipse, planetary alignment or Perseid meteor shower, but also in search for technological products of other residents in our cosmic neighborhood.
Through his UAP disclosure directive (posted here), President Trump recognized that most of the real estate lies beyond Earth. His business instincts tell him that outer space is worth investing in.
The one question that brings all Americans together, irrespective of political affiliation, is: “Are we alone?” Science offers the best tool for answering this question in service of the public.
And if the UAP Science Advisory Council will find that UAP orbs are nothing but spy drones from adversarial nations, we will all be proud that we helped the Pentagon and intelligence community fulfill their mission of national security.
For more details, check out the full interview on Fox News this Saturday at 9PM Eastern time.

Autopsy Bombshell: Los Alamos Lab Worker's Death Looks Like Murder
Sunday, Aug 16, 2026 - 12:10 PM
Fresh autopsy findings on the skeletal remains of a Los Alamos National Laboratory administrative assistant have delivered a direct challenge to any suggestion of suicide.
Melissa Casias was found propped against a tree in a remote stretch of New Mexico forest nearly a year after she vanished.
The gunshot path through the base of her skull has left investigators and family members pointing to foul play - and the case now sits inside a much larger cluster of dead and missing scientists tied to nuclear programs and UFO secrets.
Casias, 53, disappeared from her Ranchos de Taos home on June 26, 2025. She left without keys, wallet, or identification. Both her work and personal phones were found factory-reset. Surveillance caught her walking alone on State Road 518.
Her remains were discovered May 28, 2026, in the McGaffey Ridge area of Carson National Forest, a handgun nearby that her family says did not belong to her. Wildlife had scattered parts of the body.
Family-hired searchers later recovered additional evidence the initial police sweep had missed: bones, bloody clothing, orange peels, possible horse hair, shredded paper, and a tobacco pouch - items Casias did not use.
Attorney David Adams noted the rugged terrain and possible need for a horse to move a body. He also flagged chain-of-custody problems.
The Office of the Medical Investigator listed the cause of death as undetermined. The gunshot was perimortem, meaning it occurred around the time of death, entering near the spinal cord-brain junction damaging the C1 vertebra before exiting through the thin bone of the left temple.
Advanced decomposition prevented examiners from determining whether the gunshot was the actual cause of death or how close the weapon was held.
An anonymous law enforcement source told the Daily Mail the angle made suicide physically improbable: "There's no way this was suicide, not from that angle… The kickback would have made the gun go straight up. That's ridiculous. She was murdered."
Earlier reporting established she left home with her toothbrush and thyroid medication - "things that might indicate you're planning to stay alive."
1/2
Former FBI agent Ben Hansen has assessed the case as roughly 80 percent foul play and raised the possibility of directed-energy weapons or voice-to-skull technology that could compel unusual behavior without conventional ballistic evidence. Initial CT scans showed no projectile in the skull.
Casias worked as an administrative assistant at Los Alamos, a facility with deep nuclear and historical Manhattan Project roots. Administrative staff in such environments often have broad awareness of sensitive operations.
Her case is one of several involving New Mexico personnel linked to nuclear facilities.
The wider pattern stretches further. Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland, former commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory and long described as a UFO gatekeeper, vanished from his Albuquerque home on February 27, 2026 - days after President Trump ordered full disclosure of all UAP and UFO records. He left with hiking boots, a wallet, and a revolver. No phone. No glasses. No trace.
Monica Jacinto Reza, a materials engineer who co-invented a nickel-based superalloy for rocket engines and held ties to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, disappeared while hiking in the Angeles National Forest on June 22, 2025. Extensive searches turned up nothing.
Joshua LeBlanc, a NASA nuclear thermal propulsion team lead working on projects aimed at faster Mars transit, vanished from his Huntsville home in July 2025. His Tesla later crashed and burned; he was found charred inside.
James "Tony" Moffatt, a NASA-linked aerospace engineer and veteran pilot, died with his wife and two sons in a plane crash in South Carolina in April 2026.
Other cases in the same period include anti-gravity researcher Amy Eskridge (ruled suicide amid prior claims of directed-energy harassment), JPL scientist Michael David Hicks, nuclear contractor Steven Garcia, and additional researchers whose deaths or disappearances pushed the documented total past eleven by mid-April 2026.
President Trump ordered the FBI and relevant agencies to examine the cases for any commonalities. He has since stated that so far the administration is finding "not much of a connection," describing many as individual tragedies while promising a full report.
Two sets of previously classified UFO and UAP files have been released under his disclosure directive, with additional batches following.
The official posture remains that no coordinated plot has been established. Families, private investigators, and some former federal agents continue to flag behavioral anomalies, missing evidence, and professional overlaps that refuse to sit quietly.
In an era of forced transparency on UAP records, the accumulation of unexplained deaths and vanishings among those with proximity to nuclear and advanced aerospace work keeps the questions alive.

Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Brussels Responds To Growing Concerns Over Airspace Surveillance
17 August 2026, 3:28 PM BST
As UAP sightings mount over Europe, Brussels says it is watching the skies while pilots warn that stigma is undermining flight safety
Brussels has acknowledged that unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) can be reported through existing EU aviation-safety systems, while previously released correspondence shows officials have also discussed improving space-object detection capabilities.
The European Commission has faced questions about UAPs for several years, although it has stopped short of establishing a dedicated programme to investigate them.
The term UAP was adopted by the US government in 2020 as a broader alternative to the older UFO label, in part to strip away decades of stigma and widen the scope of what counts as an unexplained phenomenon.
Since then, Washington has held high-profile congressional hearings and released declassified footage, while European discussions have remained far more muted.
Brussels Has Discussed Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena
A letter from the Commission's defence department said, 'We are getting better at seeing it and better identifying it as our technological capacities improve, but we need to get even better.'
The document relates to sky and space observations submitted by a Malaysian father-and-son team of amateur astronomers, who in October 2022 sent 37 images of alleged UAPs to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The pair, who had previously received attention for lunar observations, wrote that governments 'simply have no opinions' when confronted about such sightings and noted the objects appeared to fly 'very near to aircraft and important targets, such as military and nuclear facilities.'
They also claimed to have detected signals 'from up above through the local networks Wi-Fi frequency.'
Brussels replied that it had no authority to investigate events over Malaysia, but said it would propose to its 27 member states that they 'increase [their] ability to detect objects in the space environment around the Earth.'
The Commission added this was 'partly to help us better identify the UAPs that you have seen and the many pieces of space debris that endanger the many uses of space'.
It cautioned, however, 'We do not claim that in the future this will solve all cases like those you have reported, but maybe some of them.'
The correspondence should not be interpreted as evidence that the Commission established a dedicated UAP investigation.
In March 2025, it said gathering information or documentation about UAPs was not an objective of the EU Space Programme and that it held no information corresponding specifically to the phenomenon.
The Malaysian duo also contacted NASA, the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, the Malaysian science ministry and Canada's defence ministry. According to the correspondence, those bodies did not pursue the observations further.
Former Canadian MP Larry Maguire, approached individually, was more encouraging.
'I suspect that more and more people around the world will be turning their attention to the skies and will be collecting even more data and recordings in the coming year,' he wrote in June 2022.
At the end of the day, the skies aren't classified, and as more information is collected, it will lead to more public awareness of the issue.'
1/2
Flight Safety and the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Reporting Gap
In the EU, the debate has increasingly centred on aviation safety.
MEP Fabio De Masi has repeatedly pressed the Commission to update EU aviation reporting systems to include a dedicated, standardised category for UAP incidents. In April 2025, he argued that existing classifications did not adequately capture the nature of such incidents.
Pilots and UAP campaigners argue that the lack of a dedicated classification hampers data collection and risk mitigation, and that sudden appearances of unidentified objects could lead to loss of situational awareness or emergency manoeuvres.
Rob Akkermans, a commercial pilot with a Dutch airline, has described a 2023 flight from the Middle East to the Netherlands during which he and five other crew members reportedly observed strange lights for more than two hours.
'It began while we were south of Cyprus… we saw a light flare up intensely and then slowly fade out,' he said. 'The most bizarre aspect was that one of the three lights would sometimes manoeuvre around the others. It resembled a chase, what air forces call dogfighting.'
'You are forced to carry this experience in silence, worrying far more about the professional consequences of the taboo than the actual safety risk you just witnessed,' he said.
Christiaan van Heijst, a Boeing 747 captain, has documented several unexplained encounters, including one over Spain on 23 January 2010.
He said military air traffic control confirmed there was 'no other traffic at all, all the way down to Morocco, no military activity, no commercial traffic, no weather balloons, nothing.'
Van Heijst's own account and independent reporting confirm the 2010 sighting and his contact with air traffic control, although the nature of the object remains unexplained.
Joachim Dekkers, chair of the UAP Coalition Netherlands, argues that stigma poses a risk to accurate aviation reporting.
'Without a dedicated UAP category in aviation safety systems, flight crews are forced to misclassify critical data,' he said.
'The EU cannot maintain global leadership in aviation safety while ignoring a reality other major powers measure.'
EASA and the European Commission, however, dispute the suggestion that the EU lacks a mechanism for recording such incidents.
The Commission confirmed in July 2025 that relevant occurrences could be recorded in ECCAIRS2, the EU's harmonised aviation-safety reporting system.
In March 2026, the Commission went further, saying EASA was aware of recent international developments concerning UAP reporting and that incidents could be stored in the European Central Repository for analysis.
EASA nevertheless concluded that the risk situation remained unchanged and that no additional action was warranted.
That official position leaves a clear divide between campaigners seeking a dedicated UAP category and EU authorities, which maintain that the existing system can already accommodate such reports.
A Commission spokesperson has previously maintained that national-security aspects of UAP incidents remain primarily a matter for individual member states.
De Masi, meanwhile, has continued pressing Brussels for greater coordination, arguing that the issue concerns airspace security and aviation safety rather than speculation about extraterrestrial life.
What remains unproven is the nature or origin of the phenomena being reported. Neither the correspondence nor the pilots' accounts establish that the objects were extraterrestrial, technologically extraordinary or connected to a single cause.
What the official record does establish is that UAPs have reached the European Commission's agenda, can be recorded through EU aviation-safety systems and have prompted repeated questions about whether Europe's existing detection and reporting mechanisms are sufficient.

Hunter Biden 'Abducted by Aliens' in Bizarre Spacecraft Interview Featuring Trump Jokes and 'Jewish Space Lasers'
17 August 2026, 11:21 AM BST
A comedic take on politics with Hunter Biden aboard a fictional spaceship
Hunter Biden has apparently been abducted by aliens, at least if you believe the bizarre fictional scenario played out during a recent comedy interview.
In the surreal segment, Biden was portrayed as being hauled aboard a spacecraft and questioned about a potential presidential run, Donald Trump, political scandals and even the absurd idea of 'Jewish alien space lasers'.
The interview, however, was clearly presented as satire rather than a genuine account of an extraterrestrial encounter, with the former president's son joining in on the deliberately chaotic jokes.
Hunter Biden Boards the Fictional Spaceship
The segment opened with the hosts joking about the need for 'radical transparency' before summoning Hunter Biden to their imaginary spacecraft.
'Gleep, get me Hunter Biden on this ship,' one host joked before announcing that the spacecraft was hailing the private citizen.
Biden then appeared as the guest in the fictional scenario, with the hosts immediately turning the conversation towards the idea of him running for president.
The joke quickly escalated into extraterrestrial territory.
'In order to get me elected, we're going to need a lot of Jewish alien space lasers,' Biden said in the exchange.
The line deliberately referenced the long-running conspiracy trope surrounding 'Jewish space lasers', transforming an already bizarre political joke into an even more absurd alien storyline.
Rather than treating the scenario seriously, the interview leaned heavily into its deliberately ridiculous premise, allowing Biden to play along with the hosts as they moved between extraterrestrials, American politics and contemporary controversies.
Trump Becomes a Target of the Alien Jokes
Donald Trump also became a major target as the conversation veered into jokes about the president, Air Force One and alleged security concerns.
The hosts mocked a fictional scenario in which Trump supposedly left an aircraft using a catering truck, with the conversation descending into increasingly exaggerated claims about the president and his security arrangements.
One particularly blunt joke asked how Trump could have fitted into the catering vehicle, while another mocked the supposed absence of windows.
The segment then jumped between jokes about missiles, military aircraft, the Strait of Hormuz and Trump administration policies.
The rapid changes were part of the show's intentionally chaotic style. Serious political subjects were repeatedly mixed with absurd punchlines, making it clear that the interview was designed as political comedy rather than conventional news commentary.
Vaccines Politics and the 'Magnets' Joke
The interview also moved into a series of jokes about vaccines and controversial statements associated with Trump's political career.
The hosts mocked claims about childhood vaccinations, comparing the fictional process to scenes from science-fiction films and exaggerating the idea of children being placed into enormous tanks.
The conversation later turned to 'magnets', another running gag that became one of the strangest moments of the interview.
'Do magnets,' one speaker said repeatedly while discussing how people could supposedly make money.
The joke was then connected to claims about a rare earth magnet company receiving a $620 million (£456.98 million) federal loan.
The hosts used the subject to mock political arguments about government contracts, business interests and alleged conflicts surrounding powerful families.
Biden joined the joke, even pretending to misunderstand what 'doing magnets' meant before the discussion became another surreal detour.

Hey @MITREcorp, have you responded to Representative Burlison's interrogatory regarding MITRE's knowledge and records on UFOs?
Surely your legally required response will comprehensively address and supply decades of internal MITRE documents, records, and audiovisual files for Section 5: "Sensor Data, Domain Awareness, and UAP/USO Detection".
I reckon Congress and the American People would be very keen to learn about MITRE's involvement in a decades-old, unacknowledged Special Access Program relegated to your hidden Special Security Office in McLean, VA that monitors and tracks a particular enormous USO with a permanent station in the waters of the deep Atlantic, off the coast of the Bahamas…. Referred to by your own employees as a "tic-tac factory".
Just as I reckon Congress and the American people would be even more keen to gain access to the decades of sensor datasets, analytic reports, briefings, audiovisual data, etc of this enormous object compiled for your relevant USG cognizant authority here (Navy specifically ONI), that display this enormous maritime vehicle deploying and collecting an array of "subordinate vehicles" that display transmedium, high-performance flight characteristics.
I reckon that upon immediate receipt of this letter, the MITRE hidden SSO felt compelled to destroy existing program records at the McLean, VA campus or other MITRE satellite offices (particularly at NAS Pax River); however, this interrogative immediately establishes a preservation act, so record destruction is a non-option here.
So no more burn bag and shred parties at the Fairfax County Virginia Waste Management depot like MITRE has done for years…. Speaking of, might I suggest @RepEricBurlison getting a letter to Fairfax County, VA Waste Management and asking for records of every instance in which MITRE was granted full, unobstructed access to vacated waste management sites…

LIFE AFTER CONTACT — Sound, Light & Frequency #26
August 16, 2026
What happens after first contact—when the ships have landed, the shooting has stopped, and the aliens aren’t going anywhere?
Bryce Zabel and Brent Friedman explore the surprisingly complicated futures Hollywood has imagined for humanity once extraterrestrials become conquerors, occupiers, refugees, neighbors, employers, enemies—or even romantic partners.
And they confront the question every one of us would eventually have to answer: would you join the resistance, collaborate with the new regime, try to play both sides—or just keep your head down and hope the lights stay on?
From the guerrilla warfare of Falling Skies and the fascist occupation of V to the surveillance state of Captive State and Colony, the stories keep returning to the same uncomfortable truth: alien invasion movies are usually talking about us.
Alien Nation turns extraterrestrials into immigrants. District 9 makes them refugees trapped in an apartheid system. Defiance imagines multiple species attempting to build a society together, while Pluribus offers perhaps the strangest possibility of all—a peaceful hive mind that promises to eliminate fear, loneliness, and conflict by eliminating individuality along with them.
But beneath all the science fiction is a question that feels increasingly relevant to Sound, Light & Frequency: if contact is already taking place in some form, what might come next?
Bryce and Brent consider whether decades of movies and television are simply exploiting one of humanity’s oldest fears—or whether, intentionally or otherwise, Hollywood has been rehearsing the possibilities for us.
Because first contact may be an event. Life after contact is a civilization.
