They don't like the truth getting out

School board asks judge to hold newspaper in contempt for reporting on Parkland shooter's past

A Florida school board representing Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has asked a judge to hold a state newspaper in contempt for publishing details of the suspected shooter's education history that were ordered to be redacted from court record.

The Broward County School Board on Monday requested that the Florida Sun-Sentinel and two reporters be held in contempt after the reporters discovered that redacted segments of a court report could be read simply by copying and pasting the redacted text into word processing software such as Microsoft Word, according to the paper.

The Sun-Sentinel, attorneys for the school board allege, knew that the text should not have been used for the report because its reporters had attended the court proceedings where the report's release and redactions were discussed.

“They opted to report, publicly, information that this court had ordered to be redacted despite agreeing, on the record, that this information was protected by both Florida and federal law,” attorneys for the school board wrote.

Julie Anderson, the Sun-Sentinel's editor-in-chief, responded Monday, saying the paper had a duty to report on all details of the shooting that were publicly available, as the district had inadvertently made the report.

“After consulting attorneys about the situation, and realizing the school district had made the full report public, we published a second story that gave more context to the report’s findings,” Anderson said.

Alleged MS-13 kingpin pleads with judge to improve jail conditions

An alleged major drug trafficker known as "Reaper" – who's accused of being a kingpin in the brutal MS-13 gang – told a judge life in lockup is unbearable and complained about a lack of phone access and the "discrimination" he faces at a New York county jail.

Miguel Angel Corea Diaz, 35, begged State Supreme County Justice Patricia Harrington to intervene while he's locked up in Nassau County, Newsday reported Monday. Corea Diaz claimed he was “suffering.”

“Discrimination. I’m suffering in this county. They call me ‘El Chapo.’ Die, scary guy,” the so-called East Coast leader of the notorious gang told the court on July 31, adding he had received “a lot of death threats” coming from outside the jail.

Corea Diaz was charged with three counts of operating as a major drug trafficker and five counts of second-degree conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty to the crimes in April. The district attorney’s office had told the court Corea Diaz reported directly to the gang’s leaders in El Salvador.

Cigna is using investor's money to do what?

These PBMs are going down, thankfully.

Carl Icahn urges Cigna investors to block $80 billion Express Scripts deal

Weeks before a shareholder vote on Cigna's takeover of Express Scripts, activist Carl Icahn is urging the insurer's investors to block the $60 billion transaction.

In an open letter on Tuesday, Icahn said Cigna is “dramatically overpaying for a highly challenged Express Scripts that is facing existential risks on several fronts.” The business model employed by the pharmacy benefit manager and its peers — which act as middlemen between drug companies and insurers during negotiations on treatment prices — has become a focal point in the Trump administration's quest to reduce medication costs.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and others have voiced support for ending the lucrative drug rebate program, a system under which benefit managers often receive a sizable percentage of the subsidy they are negotiating. The industry argues that drug rebates ultimately lower drug costs for consumers.

Trump looking to limit citizenship for legal immigrants who use public welfare programs

The Trump administration is working on a proposal that would make it harder for legal immigrants to obtain citizenship or acquire green cards if they’ve used public welfare programs, including Obamacare, according to a new report.

A draft of the plan described to NBC News shows the administration could prevent immigrants living legally in the U.S. who have used Obamacare, children’s health insurance and food stamps, among other benefits, from obtaining citizenship. Using Social Security Insurance already made it harder for immigrants to get legal status.

White House senior adviser Stephen Miller is spearheading the proposal, which NBC said would not need approval from Congress.

Immigration lawyers, advocates and public health researchers told NBC News the proposal could affect more than 20 million immigrants.

"The administration is committed to enforcing existing immigration law, which is clearly intended to protect the American taxpayer by ensuring that foreign nationals seeking to enter or remain in the U.S are self-sufficient. Any proposed changes would ensure that the government takes the responsibility of being good stewards of taxpayer funds seriously and adjudicates immigration benefit requests in accordance with the law,” a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security told the news outlet.

Subpoena for messaging app 'Discord' may reveal Charlottesville white supremacists' identities

A subpoena filed in court on behalf of counter-protestors who were injured in last year's "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Va., could potentially reveal the identities of the white supremacists who took part in the protest.

The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that attorneys filed a subpoena for the messaging app, Discord, with the goal of obtaining messaging and account information for over 30 anonymous users who may have participated in the rally that turned deadly.
