Heavy snowfall has blanketed Bolivia’s Andean highlands, disrupting transport, shutting markets and putting thousands of livestock at risk. Snow covered parts of La Paz, El Alto and Potosi, leaving vehicles stranded on mountain roads and forcing vendors to abandon their stalls. In Potosi, deep snow buried grazing areas, threatening more than 165,000 llamas and sheep with starvation. Rescue teams and communities struggled to reach isolated areas as roads became increasingly difficult to navigate. Authorities deployed emergency feed and supplies to affected families, while residents called for more support. The severe cold front has brought sub-zero temperatures across Bolivia’s highlands.

Carmel works to install secondary dam at collapsed bridge with help from National Guard helicopters
The city of Carmel says an initial, temporary dam is now installed near the Hazel Dell Parkway bridge, near 106th Street, and crews are working on a secondary dam to add more protection.
Previously, city officials in Carmel expressed concerns about floodwaters pushing toward the Martin Marietta quarry at 106th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway, which could have caused the rest of the bridge could collapse into the creek bed and quarry. One of the main concerns were sewage pipelines in the area.
