In Genesis 3:1-6, the serpent (identified in the New Testament as Satan or the Devil) tempts Eve in the Garden of Eden by questioning God’s command not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The serpent claims that eating the fruit will not cause death but will instead make humans "like God, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:4-5). Eve, deceived by the serpent’s craftiness, eats the fruit and gives some to Adam, who is with her, leading to their fall and expulsion from Eden.
