US-Canada trade negotiations collapsed at the 11th hour, just before the midnight deadline, triggering 50% tariffs on about $20 billion worth of Canadian goods (under a never-before- used Section 338 provision of the Tariff Act of 1930) and prompting globalist-aligned, China-sympathizing Prime Minister Mark Carney to promise an equivalent response.

"Tonight, Canada declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed earlier this week," the United States Trade Representative wrote on X early Saturday morning.

Despite the U.S. offer to Canada to receive the best treatment of any major exporter to our market, new demands and walk-backs of other commitments by Canada have upended the careful balance reached in the past days. In addition, Canada is continuing to maintain its prolonged retaliation against the United States, including, among other things, flat-out prohibitions on certain American goods and services.

For decades, Canada has enjoyed the most favorable access to the U.S. market of any country. And from the beginning of President Trump's trade program, Canada has continued to enjoy the best treatment in the world, even after, like China, retaliating against the United States. This week, the United States agreed to provide even better treatment to Canada, offering significant tariff reductions on steel, aluminum, autos, and lumber.

The U.S. offer was also forward-looking and included a historic economic and national security partnership to cooperate on export controls, combat transshipment, enhance digital trade, and align certain external tariffs. The offer would have led to supply-chain coordination on aerospace, complementary actions to address unfair trade practices, critical-minerals cooperation, increased enforcement against imports produced with forced labor, and the announcement of formal U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) negotiations.

This is a missed opportunity for Canada to partner with the United States, which is the fastest-growing economy in the G7.

Tehran Says US Sanctions Are 'Declaration Of War' On All Nations, Urges Global Revolt

Tehran has on Saturday further addressed the new Trump-Bessent plan of long-term economic 'strangulation' and isolation, which in the US Treasury Secretary's words seeks to "collapse" the Iranian government with the "toughest sanctions in history." This of course means that Washington will have to at the same time pressure other nations that do business with Tehran to immediately cease, which could prove a tall order - given already China and Russia are clearly not going to comply.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, said the new sanctions initiative amounts to a "declaration of war" on all countries and goes beyond "an illegal economic war against a single nation."

Baghaei said: “The announcement of new sanctions represents an attempt by the United States to exert extraterritorial sovereignty over all independent UN member states.”

"No government has the right to force foreign banks, enterprises, or airports, each operating under the exclusive jurisdiction of their own sovereignty, to refrain from engaging in legitimate trade with a third country," he continued, according to Fars news agency.

The ministery added that "such secondary sanctions have no basis in international law" and "violated the fundamental principle of sovereign equality enshrined in Article 2, Paragraph 1 of the UN Charter."

Baghaei previewed and warned that a surrender to "such intimidation would lead to the total erosion of national sovereignty" and serve as "a catastrophic return to blatant, full-scale colonialism."

This is clearly an attempt to put other countries on notice, urging them not to play Washington's game. The appeal might gain a sympathetic ear especially in BRICS and Global South countries.

The statement was issued on the heels of Iran's military days ago giving a more direct warning and threat to America's regional Gulf allies. On Wednesday Ali Abdollahi, the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, announced that "any assistance or facilitation provided to the aggressor US military amounts to participation in the US military operation."

"It seems unlikely that such a large number of military aircraft, particularly refuelling aircraft, could be present at regional bases without knowledge of host countries," said Abdollahi.

All of this is a mirror response to Bessent's Bush-style "you're either with us or against us" rhetoric.

The president has slammed Tucker Carlson, Thomas Massie, and Marjorie Taylor Greene as “fools” having almost no chance in politics

US President Donald Trump has broken into a scornful tirade against conservative journalist and podcaster Tucker Carlson, as well as his other allies-turned-critics, including former Congress members Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie.

In a Truth Social post on Friday, he branded the trio a bunch of “losers” having little to no chance in US politics and incapable of bringing any meaningful change.

Trump’s rant particularly targeted a meeting between Carlson, Massie, and Greene earlier this month, which was followed by the journalist unveiling a political manifesto claiming that the American political system is “totally incapable of responding to reality” and suggesting a reform involving “a third party or multiple parties.”

The journalist also repeatedly criticized Washington’s war on Iran, arguing that the US betrayed its own national interests by acting on Israel’s behalf. “I think America lost its sovereignty many years ago,” he told RT last month. Speaking on Sanchez Effect last week, he also called the US political system a “fraud,” accusing both Republicans and Democrats of “collusion against the American people.”

The president stated in his post that Carlson was a “totally irrelevant” person with “surprisingly… very Low I.Q.” He claimed that Carlson was supposedly planning to “run for political office” while stating at the same time that “nobody cares about him any longer” and he had “no chance” at any political race where he could “probably take a couple of points away from whatever the Republican ticket happens to be.”

Pentagon Fires Stars and Stripes Publisher, Editor-in-Chief, and Reporter for “Insubordination”

The Pentagon moved Friday to fire three senior employees at the taxpayer-supported military newspaper Stars and Stripes, accusing them of “insubordination” amid an escalating battle over the publication’s direction.

Publisher Max Lederer, Editor-in-Chief Erik Slavin, and Middle East reporter Lara Korte were each served with separation notices and given five days to appeal, according to CBS News⁠.

The stunning shake-up comes as the Trump administration works to overhaul the military publication, drag it into the 21st century, and eliminate the “woke distractions” that have infected institutions across the federal government.

Slavin and Korte claimed they were targeted over interviews they gave to CBS News without authorization for a segment that aired in July.

Slavin told CBS that the Pentagon accused him of insubordination after he publicly declared that any effort to control the newspaper’s reporting would cross a “red line.”

“According to the notice, I am being fired for stating in a CBS interview that censorship of news for service members would constitute a red line,” Slavin said.

“The Pentagon’s public affairs office has charged me with insubordination. I stand by the principle that Stars and Stripes must remain editorially independent, as required by law and by the department’s own policies.”

During the CBS interview, Slavin described the hypothetical scenario that he said would be unacceptable.

“‘Don’t run a perfectly accurate story, run this instead. Here it is, written by the Pentagon.’ That would be a red line,” he said.

Korte, who covers the Middle East, similarly insisted that she does not work for the Pentagon—even though the outlet operates within the Department of Defense and receives millions of dollars from American taxpayers.

“I’m working for Stars and Stripes. Not for the Pentagon, not for any administration, not for any policymaker,” Korte said during the CBS segment. “I’m here to cover the military community.”

Korte later called the dismissals “a shame for the institution and service members.”

Lederer, who had led the publication for 19 years, announced earlier in the week that he planned to retire on September 30 because of what he described as “fundamental” disagreements with the Trump administration’s vision for the outlet.

The Pentagon apparently decided not to wait.

Lederer was reportedly asked to fire Slavin and Korte over their unauthorized CBS appearance but refused, according to people familiar with the dispute cited by The Washington Post⁠. He was subsequently issued his own separation notice.

White House adviser Stephen Miller defended the administration when asked about the controversy Friday.

“If anybody was fired, it was for just cause,” Miller said.
