Report: More people have died from heat in France this summer than all US mass shootings in history

At least 5,764 excess deaths were recorded from June 17 to July 2, and 1,243 in the July 3-22 period, Santé Publique France said in a statement Wednesday. People aged 75 and over accounted for three-quarters of the deaths during the second heat wave, the public health authority said.

Those numbers were pulled from the Rockefeller Institute of Government page on mass shootings, updated on August 3.

 

According to those numbers, you're far more likely to die from heat in Europe than becoming a victim of a mass shooting in the United States.

 

(For those wondering, there have been about 4,000 heat-related deaths in the U.S. this summer, but our population is almost five times larger and we vast tracts of literal desert compared to France's temperate Mediterranean climate.)
