If Manafort was broke, why did he work on the campaign for free?

1. Marketing to rebuild his US lobbying income

2. Because he WAS being paid by shadowy sources

3. Because he had no choice, blackmailed by FBI/IRS and/or Ukrainian mob

4. It's all narrative - he's not really broke

He made 60 million in the Ukraine.

Did he really burn through all that?

Or is it just unobtainable for tax/legal reasons.
