An IRGC spokesman has announced Wednesday that Iran and Oman have reached agreements on their share of the Strait of Hormuz and its revenues, according toTasnim news agency. So essentially the "fee" scheme has been set. There's talk of reopening the strait on an "interim" basis, Bloomberg says.

"We entered into negotiations with Oman about a month ago and have reached results that have been accepted by both sides," the official said. "Agreements have been reached on the share of each country in the waters of the strait and the share of Iran and Oman in its revenues," the statement continued, while also alleging that negotiations were previously delayed only due to the US obstructing negotiations.

Tehran is still insisting on the United States lifting its naval blockade of the country's ports. However, it seems that for now at least Tehran is open to some level of negotiations, or at least seems content to see where this current period of rare calm leads.

This is evident in the latest words of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who argued Wednesday that any negotiations with the US don't equate to retreat from Iran's demands.

"Negotiation, in my view, has neither intrinsic value nor is it a taboo; it is neither absolutely good nor absolutely evil," he wrote in a letter responding to more hardline critics, IRNA reports.

He insisted this does not mean abandoning resistance to US-Israeli aggression. "If necessary, dialogue, too, according to this logic, is the same arena of struggle and resistance; neither a replacement for it nor a sign of retreat from it," he said.

Ghaliban further suggested this is being done by the Islamic Republic from position of strength while holding on to the nation's "dignity, wisdom and interests."

Meanwhile, it seems Washington is also in no mood to rush back into military action, following the Monday announcement by Scott Bessent of the Economic D-Day action against Iran, which is to including secondary sanctions on any country found not complying.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told several foreign officials in recent days that "for the time being" the US is not planning to initiate any new strikes against Iran, but instead the focus is on other means of pressure, especially the sanctions initiative, Axios reports. The U.S. official said that while Rubio made clear that the U.S. isn't planning a return to major combat operations, he didn't rule out strikes if Iran attacks first.

Another U.S. official said the clearing of mines from the Strait of Hormuz by the U.S. Navy is a watershed moment in the war, largely neutralizing one of Iran's main sources of leverage.

Also on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Badr Albusaidi confirmed their further work on the “interim framework” aimed at resuming shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a joint statement.

Trump Sends Saudi Nuclear Accord To Congress, With Israel Normalization Still Attached

It's official - a proposed agreement with Saudi Arabia on civil nuclear energy has been submitted by the White House to Congress.

The landmark nuclear accord would mean that uranium enrichment would eventually take place on Saudi territory. However, President Trump has included a major bombshell condition: he has not backed off requiring Saudi normalization with Israel.

"The president's position has not changed that the agreement will only move ‌forward if Saudi Arabia joins the Abraham Accords," an admin official has made clear.

The Wall Street Journal reports that "The agreement, which ‌was reached in July and would allow U.S. companies to ​export civilian nuclear technology to the kingdom, was sent to Congress on Monday, according to the U.S. official, who ⁠declined to be identified."

But officials admit expected fierce debate in Congress, as WSJ also notes: "It was not clear how Trump expects ⁠sending the nuclear deal to Congress, which has 90 session days to consider it, will advance his objectives."

"The 30-year nuclear deal calls for the construction of AP1000 reactors, a project worth tens of billions ​of dollars that would benefit Westinghouse, jointly owned by Canada-based Cameco and Brookfield Asset Management," the same report details.

The Saudis cooled on the potential for normalization with Israel in the wake of the Gaza war. Riyadh has long been demanding nothing less than full recognition of a Palestinian state before it can join the Abraham Accords.

Given at this point that this seems an impossibility from Israel's perspective, which has effectively demolished the Gaza Strip and continues squeezing the West Bank, the Saudi nuclear deal is unlikely to happen anytime soon - and could yet be many years down the line, if at all.

Meanwhile, Tehran will seize on the hypocrisy of the West allowing uranium enrichment in Saudi Arabia - and thus potential nukes - while making war on Iran and sanctioning the country for its nuclear energy program.

Any future Saudi nuclear weapon might also assure an atomic arms race in the region, and certainly the Iranians would then have greater incentive to finally build one. And it could be that they already are in secret, following the US-Israeli unprovoked attacks during Operation Epic Fury.

Iran sees itself as in a war for its very existence, and so would naturally respond accordingly. It also looks at nations like North Korea, who gain automatic 'respect' from Trump and others on the mere basis of possessing a nuclear arsenal.

The former Friendship Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio - a structure dating to the mid-1890s that began life as a synagogue before becoming a Baptist sanctuary - was engulfed in a massive early-morning blaze last week.

Nearly sixty firefighters fought the inferno for hours. The roof collapsed. The remnants were later demolished. Officials initially listed the cause as unknown.

Local fire officials have since confirmed the blaze was incendiary. Motives were not believed to be financial. Arrests were expected as investigators worked through the warrant process. The building had sat vacant for years after the congregation dwindled. Cleveland Fire Lieutenant Mike Norman called the loss "irreplaceable" and estimated damage at roughly $500,000.

Meta Settles With US States For $16.7 Billion Over Social Media Harms To Children

Meta Platforms has reached a $16.7 billion settlement to resolve a landmark claim brought by several states that the company designed Instagram and Facebook to addict children, improperly collected children's personal data, and misled consumers about their safety.

The deal was in a Wednesday court filing in California after a lawsuit was brought by 29 states - with attorneys for Colorado, California, New Jersey and Kentucky - leading the group. The states argued that features like infinite scroll were purposely engineered to keep young users hooked, that Meta misled the public about the safety of its platforms for adolescents, and that the company improperly collected and monetized children's personal data in violation of federal law.

As part of the settlement, Meta must implement daily usage limits and 'nighttime blocks' for teenagers who use the company's apps like Facebook and Instagram, as well as "enhanced age assurance measures" that would prevent children from using them, and also providing parents with additional tools, CNBC reports.

Additionally, Meta is tying another $5.3 billion of the settlement to Google and TikTok adopting similar teen safety measures - cutting default teen time limits from 2 hours to 1 hour per day.

Prior to the settlement, Meta warned that maximum statutory penalties could theoretically reach $1.4 trillion, while the attorneys general have indicated they may seek around $200 billion. That said, the company still faces thousands of lawsuits filed by school districts and individual plaintiffs alleging harms from social media.

While shares spiked as much as 5% premarket on the news, the move was quickly reversed at market open.

AP and Reuters have issued a joint statement on the first anniversary of the Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital that left five reporters dead

AP and Reuters have demanded answers from Israel over last year’s strike on Nasser Hospital in Gaza, which killed more than 20 people, including five journalists.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, marking the first anniversary of the August 25, 2025 attack, the news agencies said Israel had yet to provide the “clear answers and accountability that an incident of this gravity requires.” They stressed that the journalists were killed at a hospital, a site protected under international law and a key location for news coverage from Gaza.

The victims included Reuters cameraman Hussam al-Masri, visual journalist Mariam Dagga, who worked for AP and other outlets, and Moaz Abu Taha, a freelancer who collaborated with Reuters. The other two reporters slain in the attack were Al Jazeera photographer Mohammad Salama and Ahmed Abu Aziz, who worked for the Quds Feed Network and several other media outlets.

Reuters also renewed its demand for an explanation over the October 2023 death of visuals journalist Issam Abdallah, who was killed by Israeli tank fire while reporting in southern Lebanon.

“We again call on the government of Israel to explain the deaths of these journalists and take every step necessary to protect journalists covering the conflict,” AP and Reuters said.

The IDF acknowledged carrying out the ‘double-tap’ strike on Nasser Hospital. It later said it regretted harm to “uninvolved individuals,” denied deliberately targeting journalists, and promised an inquiry.

The attack came two weeks after four Al Jazeera journalists were killed in an Israeli strike near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Israel has repeatedly faced accusations of targeting reporters since launching its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza in October 2023.

Netanyahu declares West Bank ‘our land’

The Israeli prime minister has vowed to annex more territory for Jewish immigrants

“Today, many of our brothers and sisters around the world understand: This is our land and it will remain ours,” Netanyahu said in Jerusalem on Tuesday. “And when I say our land, every Jewish man and every Jewish woman, the door is open. We are waiting for you. We are preparing the door for major Aliyah (Jewish immigration to Israel).”

It is unclear whether the “major Aliyah” predicted by Netanyahu is actually coming. Israelis have emigrated in growing numbers since Hamas’ 2023 attack and the subsequent war on Gaza. More than 150,000 Israelis left the country from 2024 to 2025, according to a report by 972 magazine.

The Israeli prime minister spoke at an event organized by the Binyamin Regional Council, which governs 47 Jewish settlements in the West Bank. All of these settlements, which are located outside Israel’s 1967 borders, are considered illegal by the UN, and Israel’s transfer of population to them has been deemed a breach of the Geneva Convention by the International Criminal Court.

Although the Israeli state sometimes pre-authorizes the construction of settlements, they typically begin as outposts on Palestinian land, until they are retroactively legalized by the Israeli government. During his speech on Tuesday, Netanyahu boasted that his government has established and regularized “104 settlements and 160 farms and we continue to do more.”

“It isn’t easy, it’s never easy,” he continued. “The land of Israel is acquired through suffering. Sometimes also through smiles, sometimes also through arguments, but it is being acquired by us. We are not giving up, we have a vision, this is our land, and it will remain ours.”

Last week, Israel opened bidding for the construction of more than 1,200 homes in the E1 settlement project, located east of Jerusalem. Named after its designation on Israeli planning maps, the project will comprise more than 3,400 homes, and was green-lit by Netanyahu’s government last year.

The E1 plan will establish a land corridor between East Jerusalem and the existing settlement of Ma’ale Adumim, both of which are built on Palestinian land. It will also sever road links between the Palestinian cities of Ramallah and Bethlehem, located to the north and south of Jerusalem, respectively.

Eight Arab and Muslim states, including Mecca Pact members Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye, “categorically” rejected the plan, describing it as “a dangerous escalation.” The UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, European Commission, and 15 European states also condemned the project.

“The E1 settlement will undermine the prospect of the two-state solution by driving a wedge through the West Bank,” they said in a statement last Thursday. “At a time of grave instability in the West Bank with unprecedented levels of violence by settlers against civilians, and serious restrictions on the Palestinian economy, this decision is even more concerning.”

Food companies, including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Mars, have sued governments 239 times between 2010 and 2025, according to Lighthouse Reports’ investigation. The analysis examined lawsuits in six countries, including the U.S., Britain and India. Most of the lawsuits focused on food products’ labels, which detail the ingredients and nutritional value.

Diets full of ultraprocessed foods — such as fast food, cereals, soft drinks and protein bars — have been linked to poor health outcomes. Governments around the globe have responded by adding warning labels on packages and placing restrictions on marketing.

To fight back, food companies have sued 239 times between 2010 and 2025, according to Lighthouse Reports’ investigation. The analysis examined lawsuits in six countries, including the U.S., Britain and India.

Most of the lawsuits focused on food products’ labels, which detail the ingredients and nutritional value.

There wouldn’t be a slew of lawsuits if labeling wasn’t effective, a public health expert at New York University told The Guardian. “The lawsuits tell us that public health measures reduce sales of unhealthful products,” she said.

The vast majority of lawsuits were filed in Mexico, where many of the country’s children and adolescents are considered overweight.

After the country instituted a labeling requirement for soft drinks, a local company that bottled Pepsi sued, saying the labels “demonized” the product, according to Lighthouse Reports. Judges rejected the legal argument.

The new reporting also highlights an example in the U.S.

A small city in California instituted a tax on soft drinks. Then, a group bankrolled by Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and the maker of Dr. Pepper started recruiting young Black and Latino political candidates who campaigned against the tax, arguing it discriminated against poor people, according to Santa Cruz Local.

Fox News just reported that JPMorgan is warning we could be heading into a global food crisis because of the war in Iran under Trump.

JP Morgan recently flagged a slow-building food crisis, and Fox Business on Tuesday dispatched a message directly to President Donald Trump about the global threat he’s potentially aggravating.

“A JPMorgan (JPM) fertilizer analysis has been recirculating this week alongside a figure suggesting grocery prices could jump 12.3 percent,” reports marketing expert Tobi Opeyeni Anure for The Street, adding this could arrive on top of American household budgets seeing a 9.9 percent rise in food prices since 2022, the fastest pace since 1979, according to the USDA Economic Research Service.

Fox reports a crisis potentially cascading thanks to Trump’s ongoing Iran war, with corn, soybeans wheat and other food staples deteriorating, said Fox guest speaker Scott Shellady.

“We’ve got a problem with logistics. Logistics around the world has slowed up,” Shellady told Fox Business, referring to the issue with Trump’s Strait of Hormuz, but also with blockades in the Black Sea also related to Trump’s attacks on Iran.

“Both of them cause problems with fertilizer and when we don’t put down enough fertilizer guess what happens to yields. This is a cascading event. This is a logistics issue, it’s a weather issue and it’s a political issue and they’re all stacking up for the perfect storm where JP Morgan sees food inflation at five percent next year. And that could be a real problem if we get any big hiccups with Mother Nature,” Shellady said.

The delisting, posted on the US Treasury’s website, took effect after a 45-day congressional review period triggered when US President Donald Trump formally notified Congress on July 8 of his intention to rescind the designation.

“These actions were all taken in recognition of the positive actions taken and further commitments by the Syrian government under President Ahmed al-Sharaa to fully distance Syria from acts of international terrorism,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted in a statement.

SAN DIEGO — The Justice Department and FBI announced court-authorized domain seizures today to deny malicious cyber actors access to two complementary hacking platforms known as “QScan” and “QTRouter,” used to target U.S. critical infrastructure and other sensitive networks.

As described in court documents unsealed in the Southern District of California, a People’s Republic of China (PRC) state-sponsored group known as “QTFY,” employed by China-based Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company (南京鑫玖维网络科技有限公司), created and operated QScan and QTRouter. Among the victims of QTFY computer intrusion activity are the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Federal Reserve, Department of Energy, Department of Justice, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Senate.

“State-sponsored malicious hackers preying on America’s critical infrastructure will be stopped and prosecuted. We are here to ensure security for the American people and will use every tool we have to keep that promise,” said Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Federal law enforcement investigated and disabled the PRC’s malicious software, the latest in a series of technical operations to dismantle indiscriminate hacking activities sponsored by the People’s Republic of China.”
