Secretary of State Marco Rubio has suspended all international visa reviews and interviews with applicantsuntil all of the consulate staff undergo training on the appropriate review process. The intent is to proactively identify visa applicants who are seeking temporary visas with the intent of claiming asylum status or similar permanent migration.

Each consular staff agent and officer is being tasked with scrutinizing applications to ensure the applicant does not become a “public charge” after entry.

• WASHINGTON – The Trump administration has directed U.S. embassies and consulates around the world to postpone immigrant visa interviews while consular officers complete training on new public-charge guidance, temporarily stalling applications that have reached the interview stage.

The State Department told diplomatic posts to reschedule immigrant visa interviews until consular officers complete the training on how to evaluate whether an applicant is likely to become a public charge.

A public-charge determination can make an immigrant visa applicant inadmissible under federal immigration law if officials determine the person is likely to become dependent on certain forms of public assistance after arriving in the U.S.

“In early August, we launched a global training initiative at all of our embassies and consulates worldwide. To accommodate this in-depth training, appointments for visa services will be adjusted,” a State Department official said in a statement.

The move comes on the heels of U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas, a Biden appointee in Manhattan, striking down a prior State Dept ban on visas from 75 countries. However, the judge’s decision does not invalidate visa denials overall, based on independent grounds of ineligibility. As a consequence, Secretary Rubio is ordering worldwide embassy and consulate retraining to enhance scrutiny of all visa applications carefully.

CNN Data Guru Gives ‘Reality Check’ on Trump Popularity: Far More ‘Admired’ Than Reagan and Lincoln

CNN chief data analyst Harry Entengave a “reality check” on President Donald Trump’s popularity, noting he’s more admired by Republicans than Ronald Reagan and Abraham Lincoln.

Enten joined John Berman on Wednesday and noted Trump remains hugely influential and popular overall with Republicans, despite him getting hit with his worst polling ever right now.

“This is a reality check for you. That is, Donald Trump is still the sun on which the planets of the GOP revolve around. You could see it quite well here,” Enten said.

He then noted Trump’s success in boosting non-incumbent Republicans for Senate, including South Carolina’s Darline Graham, who stepped in to fillher brother Lindsey Graham’s seat after he died this year.

Trump’s success rate in endorsing Senate candidates who win their primaries is 100% this year and the rate going back to 2022 is still 95%.

“I would say that this is probably the endorsement of Darline Graham, and getting her across the finish line in the Republican Party is probably the strongest sign of Donald Trump’s name being gold in Republican primaries to date. It’s by far his most impressive performance,” Enten said, noting Graham’s chances on the Kalshi prediction market shot up from 14% to over 50% after Trump’s endorsement.

Enten then pointed out polling among Republicans this year showing Trump is more “admired” than past Republican presidents by a big margin.

According to data from Elon University, 53% of Republicans named Trump as the president they most admire. Reagan trailed at 18% and Lincoln was at a distant 8%.

Berman joked the graphic showing Trump being more popular than Reagan and Lincoln is likely flattering enough to eventually reach his desk.

“I feel like this slide might end up on a printout on his desk sometime soon if he hasn’t seen it already,” he said.

British military facilities and equipment in Ukraine and beyond could become legitimate targets for Russian strikes if Kiev continues to use UK-supplied weapons for attacks on Russian territory, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has warned.

The comments come amid rapidly deteriorating relations between Moscow and London, and a day after Ukrainian forces reportedly used British-French Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles in a strike on Donetsk that wounded at least eight civilians, including two children.

“We have repeatedly warned that the response to Ukrainian strikes using British weapons against Russian territory could be directed against any British military facilities and equipment in Ukraine and beyond,”Zakharova said during a press briefing on Thursday.

Those responsible for attacks on Russian civilians will be punished, she added, warning that their “accomplices and instigators” will also face consequences.

Zakharova accused successive British governments of pursuing a long-term objective of inflicting a so-called “strategic defeat” on Russia, andurged “all residents of the United Kingdom to think about the inevitable, catastrophic consequences of the hostile steps taken by their own authorities.”

The spokeswomancalled on the British government to “immediately, decisively and unequivocally” abandon its aggressive policies that threaten to push the conflict “to a fundamentally new level.”

Earlier this week, Britain approved the transfer of classified technology needed to help Ukraine assemble Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles domestically.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded by accusing Britain of “participating in this war on the side of the Kiev regime” and warning that Russian forces are gathering intelligence on sites involved in producing missiles and other military equipment in Ukraine in order to destroy them.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also warned last week that Moscow has “every right to regard the proudlyproclaimed direct involvement of British missile forces in strikes against Russia as participation in the war, with all the consequences that entails.”

Russia has no reason to escalate the Ukraine conflict because its forces are already advancing, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has told Bloomberg.

A Bloomberg report published on Wednesday cited “volume of chatter” among foreign policy hawks in Moscow as indicating that the Russian government could potentially use nuclear weapons. It also claimed “three people close to the Kremlin” told it Moscow is preparing to intensify long-range missile and drone strikes as it sees the diplomatic path as pointless.

In comments added to the report on Thursday, Peskov distinguished battlefield action from Moscow’s response to Kiev’s increasing efforts to cause economicdamage with attacks deep inside Russia.

“Ukraine is trying to hit our economic infrastructure, our trading infrastructure, thus causing a response from our side, and this will be a heavy response,” Peskov said. “But if you’re speaking about military escalation, we simply don’t need it because we are advancing anyway.”

Last month, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky announced a 40-day “pressure campaign” involving intensified attacks on Russian oil refineries, civilian vessels in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, and warehouses operated by commercial online retailers. Ukrainian officials have argued that such strikes could pressure Moscow into accepting Kiev’s terms.

The campaign was also reportedly intended to convince US President Donald Trump that Ukraine still has a viable path to victory and persuade Washington to approve additional deliveries of as many as 300 Patriot missile interceptors. Stockpiles of the costly US-made weapons have been depleted by the war on Iran.

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the Ukrainian campaign as opening Pandora’s box. Retaliatory Russian strikes have since virtually paralyzed Ukrainian shipping through Black Sea ports and caused congestion in Romania, where traffic has been rerouted. Reuters reported that as many as 70 cargo ships were waiting to pass through the Danube-Black Sea Canal, which has become a logistical bottleneck.

Bloomberg also claimed that Putin “could eventually opt to use tactical nuclear weapons as a last resort.” Russia’s nuclear doctrine allows nuclear weapons to be used only in response to a nuclear attack or during a conventional conflict that poses a critical threat to the existence of the Russian state.

Meanwhile, Zelensky’s government is facing mounting political pressure amid a growing number of corruption casesinvolving members of his inner circle. Last week, he was forced to dismiss a deputy head of his office who was accused of laundering money to fund bail for a former energy minister implicated in a separate graft case.

Director Ratcliffe wasn’t simply telling Naryshkin not to hit back; he was telling Naryshkin that European NATO provocations against the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad (between Poland and Lithuania) were not ‘fully’ sanctioned by the United States. {CITATION Aug 18}

EU NATO members have been conducting provocative military operations and psychological warfare via NATO exercises all around Kaliningrad. They havebeen getting more aggressive with each series of maneuvers. The Trump administration (DoW)recently removed the head of U.S-NATO operations over this background strategy. What the western media will not tell us is thatLt. Gen. Charles Costanza, commander of the Army’s V Corps, was removed from command over this planned operation{citation Aug 7}.

Apparently, European NATO is increasingly trying to provoke expanded conflict with Russia,while President Trump and CIA Director John Ratcliffe attempt to tamp down the problems being created. This is all connected to the expanded drone activity recently reported in media(Germany – Leipzig airport and Romania citations}, which looksincreasingly like covert Ukraine intelligence operations. There are some reports that western intelligence linked Russia to the Leipzig airport drone,so perhaps Director Ratcliffe also carried that intelligence message.

The bottom line is there’s a lot of sketchy ‘fog of war’ stuff happening, and U.S. intelligence has a responsibility to the Trump administration to try and contain any significant issues involving escalation.Hence, Ratcliffe’s message saying we are not trying to provoke you, so don’t put us in a situation where we end up defending NATO because you retaliate against all of this activity happening outside Ukraine’s borders.

Again, more provocation and more urgent need for U.S. officials to try and avoid expanded conflict. Who is the MI6 partner agency, that’s the CIA; that’s where Director John Ratcliffe comes in.

All of this is very alarming to say the least. Europe is essentially doing everything they can to provoke Russia into a retaliatory posture,while the USA is telling Russia not to retaliate. This is how wars get expanded.However, Russia doesn’t pretend not to know things.

Simultaneous to this, Ratcliffe likely also discussed Iran and Syria from an intelligence and strategic U.S. policy position.

Ukrainian forces have hit 214 civilian vessels flying the flags of various countries in the Black Seasince the start of the year, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Speaking at a regular briefing on Thursday, Zakharova lashed out at Ukraine, arguing that VladimirZelensky’s “regime continues to create military threats for the states of the Black Sea region.”

She pointed to astring of attacks on commercial shipping near Russian ports this month, including several raids on vessels operated by Turkish companies. Ukrainian drones hit the San Marino-flagged Necibe. Its 18 crew members were rescued by the Turkish-owned vessel Ural, which was also later struck by Ukrainian drones,leaving one Turkish citizen dead and eight other people injured.

“Here we see how the weapons procured and transferred to the Kiev regime through NATO mechanisms are being turned against the alliance members themselves,”the spokeswoman said.

Zakharova alsoaccused Ukraine of creating security risks for Romania, citing an incident on August 20 in which a Romanian F-16 opened fire on an explosives-laden maritime dronenear the Neptun Alpha gas platform in Romania’s exclusive economic zone.

Ukraine has escalated attacks in the Black Sea over the past several months. Ukrainian officials portray them as part of Zelensky’s much-hyped 40-day pressure campaign on Russia to end the conflict.

The Financial Times reported this monththat Ukraine’s attacks drew the ire of the US, with Vice President J.D. Vance requesting that Zelensky halt raids on tankers serving the Caspian Pipeline Consortiumterminal near Novorossiysk. The route mainly carries Kazakh crude and involves US majors Chevron and ExxonMobil. According to the FT, Kiev subsequently agreed not to target CPC infrastructure or non-Russian vessels unless they were sanctioned by Ukraine or are carrying Russian cargo.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe Visited Moscow

CIA Director John Ratcliffe made an unexpected visit to Moscow, Russia, today.

According to flight data and new media reporting Director Ratcliffe flew into Latvia and from Latvia into Russia on a C-17 military transport plane.

VIA CBS – CIA Director John Ratcliffe is in Moscow, Russia, for meetings, sources familiar with the situation told CBS News on Tuesday.

News of his trip comes after a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport plane was spotted at a Moscow airport, along with a U.S. diplomatic motorcade. Neither the U.S. nor Russian governments has commented on the identity of the U.S. official in Russia or the purpose of the visit.

The CIA did not immediately comment.

It appears to be Ratcliffe’s first known trip to Russia as CIA director, though he has maintained contact with Russian intelligence counterparts. (more)

Why it matters: This is Ratcliffe’s first trip to Moscow since he took office and the highest-level visit by a Trump administration official to Russia since January.

We shall not speculate too much on the purpose and intent of the visit; however, overall, the direction points to intelligence sharing or notification.

Recently the British announced they would be sharing “storm shadow missile” technology with Ukraine in order for Ukraine to build them for themselves. The Storm Shadow (also known as SCALP-EG in France) is a Franco-British, long-range, air-launched cruise missile used for precision deep-strike attacks against high-value targets. Essentially, the Storm Shadow missile is the U.K version of the Tomahawk cruise missile.

Ukraine would be building those missiles with money provided by the EU from the confiscated Russian sovereign wealth fund. Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin likely doesn’t appreciate that very much.

According to Visegrad, “President Putin had a major event scheduled for today, with hundreds of people preparing for it. The event was canceled due to the visit of the CIA director, according to Kremlin pool journalists.” CIA Director John Ratcliffe is now returning home from Moscow.

Iranian businesses are increasingly turning to discounts and installment payments to keep customers shopping, as sanctions and the economic fallout from the US-Israeli war squeeze household budgets, RT’s Salman Khujuri reports.

The trend comes nearly six months after the US and Israel launched the war against Iran in late February. Large-scale fighting has subsided under a series of temporary agreements, but efforts to reach a lasting settlement have stalled as Washington ramps up economic pressure on Tehran.

Businesses in the Iranian capital are adapting to soaring prices and falling purchasing power, with some allowing customers to spread purchases over several payments.

Bobak Shirpour, who runs a large clothing retail business in Tehran, told RT on Thursday that worsening economic conditions after the war and years of sanctions prompted his company to seek suppliers offering better prices and quality. With many larger families unable to pay in cash, the retailer also introduced discounts and installment plans.

“People have welcomed it, they come in with a smile and leave with a smile,” Shirpour said, adding that despite the narrower profit margins, business remains steady.

Shoppers interviewed by RT said installment plans have become increasingly useful as household budgets come under pressure. “They allow people to buy things they can’t afford to pay for in cash and pay in four installments instead. It gives people some peace of mind and helps them meet some of their basic needs despite these difficult circumstances,” one customer said.

Iranian households have been cutting spending on food and other essentials as inflation and the falling rial erode purchasing power, according to recent media reports. Installment shopping has also expanded to Iranian companies offering deferred-payment services as consumers struggle with the rising cost of living, the Financial Times reported earlier this month.

Pentagon says it found ‘hidden’ files on Afghan withdrawal

Pentagon investigators reviewing the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan have uncovered classified documents that they say were deliberately hidden from previous probes. The discovery comes amid long-running accusations that the administration of former US President Joe Biden concealed failures surrounding the operation.

Sean Parnell, chairman of the Afghanistan Withdrawal Special Review Panel, said on Wednesday that his team had recovered “highly relevant classified documents” that “should have been disclosed.”

The material had been “stashed and hidden away in safes where they would not be found,” Parnell said in a video statement on X, five years after the deadly bombing of the Abbey Gate entrance to Kabul airport.

“After the team reviewed these documents, it became clear why someone tried to hide them,” he said.

Parnell did not disclose what the documents actually contain, who allegedly concealed them, or whether they relate to any specific decisions made by Biden or his officials.

However, he said his panel would follow the evidence “wherever it leads and to whoever it touches,” and promised veterans and the families of those killed “the full picture” of how and why decisions were made during the disastrous withdrawal.

Thirteen US service members and around 170 Afghans were killed when an ISIS-K suicide bomber attacked Abbey Gate during the August 2021 evacuation. During the chaotic withdrawal, the Taliban rapidly swept across Afghanistan, the Western-backed government collapsed, and thousands of people crowded Kabul airport in an attempt to flee the country.

Images of desperate Afghans clinging to a departing US military aircraft became emblematic of the withdrawal, which ended a 20-year American military presence with the Taliban back in power.

Republicans have since repeatedly accused Biden officials of ignoring or downplaying warnings that a complete US withdrawal could trigger the rapid collapse of the Afghan government and security forces, and of waiting too long to launch a full-scale evacuation.

House investigators have also consistently raised concerns that potentially relevant photographs, video, and other material from the evacuation were missing, deleted, or otherwise unavailable during subsequent probes. They have accused Biden-era officials of withholding information and frustrating congressional attempts to establish exactly how key decisions were made.

Biden administration officials have denied any cover-up and argued that the unexpectedly rapid collapse of the Afghan government severely complicated the evacuation.

Denmark to compensate Greenlandic women over forced contraception

Denmark will pay around $47,000 to each Greenlandic woman who can attest to having been implanted with a contraceptive device without consent while Copenhagen controlled the island’s healthcare system. Around 4,500 women may qualify under the scheme.

The Danish parliament approved the payout of 300,000 kroner by a large majority on Thursday, with the compensation to be made tax-free regardless of the contraceptive method used or the number of incidents.

It is now known what caused the historic Nepal floods on Wednesday that resulted in hundreds of people dying and thousands more going missing, including dozens of Americans.

As the BBC reported, the US Geological Survey revealed the flash floods were triggered by a massive high altitude glacial collapse in a mountainous area near the Nepal-Tibet border.

This triggered seismic activity and catastrophic downstream impacts along the Trishuli River, while floodwaters spread across several regions in Nepal.

CNN notes that major swaths of ice up in the Himalayas are melting, and rocky mountainsides are becoming less solid and more fluid.

This has made Nepal more vulnerable to disasters like this.

The United States Geological Survey also reported recording a 4.4-magnitude quake around the time the security footage was taken at the Nepal-Tibet border.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, several videos went viral showing a depiction of the Biblical flood in the landlocked nation.

As one can see in the videos, the catastrophic flash flooding materializes as a massive surge of water descends from the mountains and destroys a border crossing building, as dozens of terrified people can be seen running for their lives.

At last count, more than 350 souls have perished in the floods. More than 1,300 people also remain missing or unaccounted for across the region.

This number includes at least 65 American citizens.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said America “stands ready to support the Government of Nepal with needed humanitarian assistance.”
