Like many members of his family, Whitney inherited a rare genetic mutation that all but guarantees he would develop early-onset Alzheimerโs disease. tl;dr - Doug Whitney and all his siblings had a gene to get Alzheimer's. All of his siblings got it at 50 and died. He survived and they figured out it was because he spent his navy time in the boiler room, crazy hot and sweaty. This heat triggered a repair process in his body that protected him from getting it, even decades later.
