MapQuest says it won’t change Lake Ontario to Lake America
(Gray News) — MapQuest said it is not going to change the name of Lake Ontario for its services.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to rename the body of water Lake America.
“We’re not changing the name of Lake Ontario. Name it whatever you want at your leisure,” MapQuest wrote on X, including a link to a name generator for users to come up with something catchy.
The name change comes as Trump escalates his trade war with Canada.
Trump has been floating the idea of the name change in recent days as the U.S. announced it was imposing 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods over the weekend after talks between the countries broke down.
The move is reminiscent of his move last year to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”
