I'm going to give my two cents. I think Trump is making a mistake going back to steam on future carriers. EMALS has the kinks worked out after some teething pains. Trump forcing steam back on the navy will cost a fortune and slow new ship building efforts, plus we don't have the people who designed the steam systems around anymore. We'd need to rebuild a tech lower on the tree.

America Just Ruined Its Own Aircraft Carriers

So the EMALS is on the chopping block. The repurposed roller-coaster tech that upped the capabilities of our new aircraft carriers is looking to be replaced with steam, the same technology we've been using for almost as long as aircraft carriers have existed, and the thing that comes out of my ears when I see your mom.

Will it actually happen? What does this mean for the fleet moving forward? And what's the point of this kind of move?
