American Airlines Flight 965 was a regularly scheduled flight from Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida, to Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport in Cali, Colombia. On December 20, 1995, the Boeing 757 flying this route crashed into a mountain in Buga, Colombia, around 9:40 pm local time killing 151 of the 155 passengers and all 8 crew members.
The aircraft impacted near the summit, with most of wreckage clearing the mountain and falling on the opposite side.
Scavengers took engine thrust reversers, cockpit avionics, and other components from the crashed 757, using Colombian military and private helicopters to go to and from the crash site. Many of the stolen components reappeared as unapproved aircraft parts on the black market in Greater Miami parts brokers.In response, the airline published a 14-page list stating all of the parts missing from the crashed aircraft. The list included the serial numbers of all of the parts.

Now you can bet your bottom dollar that if US investigators were aware of wreckage stolen from the crash site of AA 965 was found for sale on the black market in Miami in the mid 1990s. Then the feds would have seized every single scrap of it. Including the landing gear and engine components mentioned in the stories. But also including things not mentioned like airplane skin or engine core assemblies.
Having wreckage of a 757 on hand meant that they had to use that model of jetliner for the cover story. Amazingly in NYC eyewitnesses were saying everything from 737 to 747. But it happened differently at the Pentagon. Although there was a difference in description by various eyewitnesses. Some said small business jet. Others said large airliner. When a specific model was mentioned it was always a 757. Kind of hard to believe anyone could be sure since they all look mostly alike, except for maybe the 747, and it was said to be traveling at 530 mph. Tim Timmerman's live in girlfriend called in to a local DC station saying it was a 757 within about a half hour after the attack. Timmerman himself went live on the phone with CNN later that afternoon. The girlfriend actually allowed Citizens Investigative Team into the apartment overlooking the Pentagon area. The couple later broke up. Wonder why? She later married someone else and was hostile when contacted for more questions. Tim Timmerman seems to even be coaching CNN's Bob Franken during the interview.
