Friday, the Washington Department of Ecology documented a “fish kill,” a sudden and unexpected die-off of many fish and other marine life.

HOODSPORT, Wash. — Hood Canal periodically experiences low oxygen levels, but significant numbers of simultaneous fish deaths are unusual for the area. When large numbers of shrimp and fish washed ashore over the weekend, puzzlement and interest sparked in the community along the western arm of the Puget Sound.
