18 U.S.C. ยง 611 prohibits aliens from voting in certain U.S. federal elections unless specific conditions are met.
Key Provisions
(a) It is unlawful for any alien to vote in an election held solely or in part for the purpose of electing a candidate for:
President, Vice President, Presidential elector
Member of the Senate
Member of the House of Representatives
Delegate from the District of Columbia
Resident Commissioner
Exceptions:
The election is held partly for some other purpose.
Aliens are authorized to vote for that other purpose under a State constitution, statute, or local ordinance.
Voting for that other purpose is conducted independently of voting for the federal office, so aliens can vote for the other purpose but not for the federal office
