September Epsilon Perseid Meteor Shower 2026: When To Look

The famous August Perseids may be over, but Perseus isn’t quite finished producing shooting stars. A little-known meteor shower arrives in September—and 2026 offers unusually dark skies for watching it.

If you thought meteor season ended with August’s spectacular Perseids, there’s another reason to look up.

The September Epsilon Perseid meteor shower peaks on September 9, 2026, sending fast-moving meteors across the late-summer sky.

This is a much smaller shower than the famous August Perseids, but this year it has one major advantage: almost no moonlight.

The Moon becomes New at 11:27 p.m. EDT on September 10, meaning the nights around the meteor shower’s peak will be exceptionally dark.

And there’s another reason astronomers are paying attention in 2026: calculations suggest Earth could encounter an older trail of meteor debris early on September 10, possibly creating a brief increase in activity.

It is far from guaranteed—but it makes this year’s shower more interesting than usual.

The International Meteor Organization’s 2026 meteor calendar places the official maximum at approximately 18:00 UTC on September 9 and gives the shower a Zenithal Hourly Rate, or ZHR, of about 8.

When Is The Best Time To See The September Epsilon Perseids?

For most people in the United States, the best practical viewing window will be late Wednesday night, September 9, through the predawn hours of Thursday, September 10.

The shower’s official maximum occurs during daylight hours across North America, so don’t worry about trying to catch one exact moment. Meteor showers last for days, and activity should remain elevated throughout the night.

Start watching around 10 or 11 p.m. local time, when Perseus is becoming well positioned, and continue through the hours after midnight.

As with many meteor showers, your odds generally improve toward dawn as the radiant climbs higher in the sky.

One Time To Keep An Eye On

There is an especially intriguing window this year.

Meteor researchers have modeled a possible encounter with older debris from the shower at approximately 06:10 UTC on September 10.

Don’t set your expectations too high. Scientists caution that any extra activity may be weak—or may not materialize at all.

But if you’re already outside watching, this is a particularly interesting window to stay out a little longer.

How Many Meteors Will You See?

This is not another August Perseid spectacle.

The famous Perseid meteor shower in August 2026 was capable of producing 50 to 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions.

The September Epsilon Perseids are much quieter.

The International Meteor Organization lists a 2026 ZHR of about 8 meteors per hour, although rates around five per hour are more typical of the shower historically.

And remember: ZHR is an idealized number. It assumes exceptionally dark skies, perfect visibility, and the meteor shower’s radiant near the zenith.

From a suburban backyard, you might only see a few September Epsilon Perseids during an hour of watching.

That’s why patience matters.

The Big Advantage In 2026: Almost No Moon

What the September Epsilon Perseids lack in numbers this year, they make up for in darkness.

The New Moon arrives September 10 at 11:27 p.m. EDT, just after the shower’s peak.

That means bright moonlight won’t wash faint meteors out of the sky.

Under a dark rural sky, the Milky Way may also be prominent, making this an excellent night simply to go stargazing—even if meteor activity remains modest.

Are These The Same Perseids We Saw In August?

No—and this is where the name gets confusing.

The September Epsilon Perseids are a separate meteor shower from August’s famous Perseids.

Both appear to radiate from roughly the same part of the northern sky around Perseus, which explains their similar names. But astronomers classify them as separate meteor streams.

The August Perseids come from debris left behind by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. NASA describes them as one of the most plentiful annual meteor showers.

The parent object responsible for the September Epsilon Perseids, on the other hand, has not been firmly identified.

NASA’s Eyes software: August release notes

On August 4, 2026, a major update to Eyes on the Solar System was released that included full Mars terrain.

Now you can land on the surface of Mars and explore the entire planet if you are on a desktop or laptop computer. To use the feature anywhere in the application, just hit “k” on your keyboard and you will see a message that you are entering free-fly mode.

You can use the mouse to click and drag the view, and when you are positioned in the direction you wish to travel, use the W, A, S, and D keys to move around.

If you hold the Shift key while pressing those keys, you will go much faster. You can also use the Q/E and Z/C keys to move up and down, and to roll the camera view, respectively.

The new free-fly mode works anywhere in the Solar System at any time. You can fly throughout space and visit every single object that exists in the application. To exit free-fly mode, just press the “k” button again.

In addition to the free-fly mode, we also added the Roman Space Telescope in advance of the launch, and then updated the trajectory on launch day, August 30, 2026. We also added the SOLAR-1 spacecraft, as well as Lagrange points L1 and L2, which you can now visit.

In addition to Eyes on the Solar System, the Eyes team also released a major new dataset in Eyes on the Earth. On August 31, 2026, the NISAR mission’s radar reflectivity map was added to the application.

This is the single highest resolution dataset that has ever been added to Eyes on the Earth, showing a rolling 12-day radar reflectivity map at 15 meters per pixel. At that resolution, you can see individual cargo ships in the major ports of the world.

NASA to Cover Progress 96 Spacecraft Launch, Docking

NASA will provide live coverage of the launch and docking of a Roscosmos cargo spacecraft carrying about three tons of food, fuel, and supplies for the crew aboard the International Space Station.

The unpiloted Progress 96 resupply spacecraft is scheduled to launch at 12:15 p.m. EDT (9:15 p.m. Baikonur time), Wednesday, Sept. 9, on a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. NASA’s live launch coverage will begin at 12 p.m.

After a two-day trip to the space station, Progress will dock autonomously to the Poisk module’s space-facing port at 2:37 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11. NASA’s arrival coverage will begin at 1:45 p.m.

The spacecraft will remain docked to the orbiting laboratory for about five months before departing to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere, where it will harmlessly burn up over the Pacific Ocean.

Before Progress 96 arrives, the Progress 94 spacecraft will undock from the space station at approximately 11:18 a.m., Monday, Sept. 7, for its departure and planned destructive re-entry. NASA will not stream coverage of Progress 94 undocking.

Schiess sworn in as the Space Force’s highest-ranking uniformed leader

Gen. Douglas A. Schiess was formally installed Sept. 3 as the Chief of Space Operations, the U.S. Space Force’s highest-ranking uniformed officer, during a change of responsibility ceremony with his retiring predecessor, Gen. Chance Saltzman.

Schiess is taking charge of the youngest branch of the military at a time of fundamental growth and expanding strategic importance.

“Our way of life, our economy and our national security all depend on our ability to achieve space superiority,” Schiess said to an audience of family, colleagues and senior leaders.

“Every day, our potential adversaries advance their efforts to disrupt, degrade or destroy our space capabilities and they try to add to their own capacity to exploit space to their advantage.

We cannot — we will not — let that happen,” he said. “As CSO, I want to be clear — our purpose is not confrontation, but deterrence, ensuring no adversary believes aggression against the United States will succeed.”

As the presiding official of the ceremony, Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink touched on the challenges and demands of the job Schiess is accepting and why he believes Schiess is equipped to lead the service.

“We are entrusting you with our Guardians and their families,” Meink said. “On top of that, we are asking you to lead our Space Force in an incredibly dynamic threat environment.

Today, we face a mix of rapidly changing technologies and adversaries moving aggressively to employ them against us.

Our adversaries are innovating, they are adapting and they have every incentive to try and outpace us. Because they understand that no nation can be truly secure without space superiority.”

“In this environment,” Meink said, “it is critical we have the right Chief of Space Operations. A CSO must set a clear vision and ensure that our force adapts with speed and scale as this moment demands.

A CSO must discern threat from opportunity because there are a lot of both, while ensuring we never cede the ultimate high ground.

That’s where General Schiess comes in. No one understands that space operational environment better than Doug.”

Schiess credited past leaders of the Space Force in paving the way forward as he assumes responsibility for more than 15,000 uniformed and civilian members.

“My charge is to enable our Guardians to write the force’s exciting next chapter, one built on the remarkable legacy of our past leaders and the unflagging commitment of our current force,” Schiess said.

“I will be relentless in my efforts to ensure our Guardians are ready, our capabilities are resilient, our partnerships are strong and our service is worthy of the trust placed in us by the American people,” he said.

Saltzman also gave remarks reflecting on his last four years as CSO and more than three decades of military service. He expressed appreciation to his family, the military and the many partners who continue to support the Space Force.

“With all of your help, we have articulated the critical need for space to our nation and our national security. And we’ve built an organization capable of protecting and defending our interests in space,” Saltzman said.

Saltzman added, “It has been an amazing journey, and it has been the highest honor of my life and career to serve as Chief of Space Operations.”

The ceremony, held at Joint Base Andrews, was set in motion in August when the Senate confirmed Schiess to be the third CSO in Space Force history. With his new role officially set, Schiess offered insight into his focus and priorities.

To succeed, he said, “we must build on our combat credibility and increase the number of options we provide to the President, the Chairman [of the Joint Chiefs of Staff] and the Joint Force.”

In his remarks, Schiess thanked a long list of colleagues, mentors and friends, saving special notice for his wife, Debbie.

“Thank you for all your love, patience, sacrifice and encouragement over all these many years. You have made today possible. I know I would not be standing here today without you by my side,” he said.

Trump White House just tossed a grenade into international space relations

“Let me be clear: America is not only welcome—we want you there.”

The normally genteel world of international space policy turned ugly this week as several prominent US space companies—including SpaceX, Blue Origin, Stoke Space, K2, and Starcloud—pulled out of a high-profile French space summit organized by the country’s president, Emmanuel Macron.

Politico first reported the diplomatic turmoil, saying that the White House “pressured” US space companies to skip Macron’s space summit in Paris next week.

Since then, the companies have largely pulled out of the meeting without commenting publicly, though some US representation remains on the two-day program.

Multiple sources confirmed to Ars that an official with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, or OSTP, led the call with US space companies late last week.

The call was convened in response to queries from US industry about the French meeting, which is not part of the traditional circuit of international space conferences.

What is the Space Summit?

Macron announced his plans for the meeting during a June 2025 speech on the importance of space to defense and Europe’s need to remain competitive in the domain.

He said France would hold a “Space Summit” at the beginning of 2026 to consolidate French and European strategy in space and “mobilize our public and private partners from around the world.”

Later, Macron announced that some of France’s most visible space officials, including astronaut Thomas Pesquet and entrepreneur Hélène Huby, would serve as special envoys.

The meeting subsequently slipped from the spring until fall, and in the meantime, US companies received invites to attend.

As is customary in such situations involving geopolitics, the government relations officials with these companies reached out to the White House OSTP with questions about the nature of the summit.

The White House officials were growing concerned that this was not a normal space industry trade show or conference but would instead include some policy prescriptions around contentious issues such as sharing of spectrum.

US officials believed that at the end of the summit, European space officials may move to adopt some policies that were not necessarily beneficial to US companies.

This led to the teleconference with the OSTP and some US space companies late last week, during which the government relations officials were advised that the US firms should not necessarily expect to be treated fairly and might be pressured to endorse policy positions that misrepresent their preferences.

The companies were not told they must pull out by the Trump White House but were instead advised that attending might not be in their best interests.

After news broke of this call with US space companies, France’s cabinet-level space minister, Philippe Baptiste, still urged the Americans to attend.

“Let me be clear: America is not only welcome—we want you there,” he said on X. “This summit brings all major space powers to the table—science, exploration, security, telecom, SSA, and everything that matters.”

By then it was too late.

So what does all this mean?

For the US space companies, it was a relatively easy choice to pull out. For many of these firms, the US government is one of the most important customers, if not the most important, and it’s bad business to ignore the customer’s wishes.

But they also look to Europe as an important source of revenue. As Europe looks to build up its communications and defense capabilities in space, it would be expected to buy a lot of satellite buses, star trackers, and other services from the vibrant US commercial space industry.

Now, those cross-Atlantic relationships will become more painful, and Europe will likely incentivize buying anything but US space products.

For the White House, there likely was a dual motivation at work. On one hand, US policy officials recognize that the commercial space industry is a major strength of this nation, running laps around Europe and keeping America ahead of China in space.

That is worth protecting. But the White House pressure campaign also serves the aims of President Trump, who has decided that he wants to antagonize traditional US allies and seemingly aid Russian President Vladimir Putin in his efforts to undermine NATO.

In some corners of the White House, “Europe” has become a dirty word. So keeping major US players away from Macron’s space meeting was a convenient way to embarrass the French leader.

This all feels very unfortunate and unnecessary. Traditionally, space has been a unifier when it comes to geopolitics, with the International Space Station and its partnership that spans Russia, the United States, and the whole of Europe only being the foremost example.

But as it trods a divisive geopolitical course, the Trump Administration has evidently decided that it’s best to use even this tool as a wedge rather than a bridge.

China launches global initiative for cislunar space exploration

China has launched an international scientific initiative, calling for joint efforts to explore the space between Earth and the moon.

Initiated by China's Deep Space Exploration Laboratory and the International Deep Space Exploration Association, the International Cislunar Cubesat Constellation Program plans to deploy satellite groups in cislunar space for systematic space environment monitoring, gamma-ray burst detection, and lunar resources exploration, with full deployment scheduled for around 2030 to fill global gaps in systematic cislunar observation, according to the Hefei-headquartered laboratory.

Media briefing ahead of FLEX and Sentinel-3C launch

On 4 September 2026, media representatives joined an online briefing ahead of the launch of ESA’s FLEX and the Copernicus Sentinel-3C satellites.

The two satellites are scheduled to launch together aboard a Vega-C rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana on 15 September at 03:21 CEST (14 September at 22:21 local time).

FLEX is equipped with the Fluorescence Imaging Spectrometer that will detect the faint fluorescence plants emit as they absorb sunlight during photosynthesis. Although invisible to the human eye, this subtle glow varies with plant health and environmental conditions.

In fact, the FLEX satellite will orbit in tandem with a Sentinel-3 satellite, which will be used to provide information on clouds, aerosols and water vapour as well as information about the land surface, such as the surface temperature, type of land cover and additional vegetation parameters.

This integrated package of near-simultaneous measurements will provide an unprecedented view of global vegetation function and status.

Sentinel-3C is the third satellite in the Copernicus Sentinel-3 series. Like its two older siblings in orbit, Sentinel-3C carries a suite of cutting-edge instruments that measure systematically Earth’s oceans, land, ice and atmosphere to monitor and understand large-scale global dynamics.

It provides essential information in near-real time for ocean and weather forecasting.

Europe’s Vega-C rocket is an evolution of the Vega rocket family, offering greater performance, larger payload capacity and improved competitiveness.

It can launch up to 3300 kg into space, ideal for carrying small scientific and Earth observation satellites into orbit.

Zelensky claims Russia strikes security service building in Kiev

A drone has hit the central building of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kiev, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has claimed.

He blamed the incident on Russia, claiming the UAV landed a direct hit on the office of the agency’s acting head, Aleksandr Poklad.

The official was not harmed in the alleged Russian attack, according to Zelensky. The Ukrainian leader said he had already tasked Poklad with preparing an “adequate, noticeable, and, if possible, mirror response.”

Footage from the scene that has emerged on Ukrainian Telegram channels appears to show that an explosion damaged the facade of the building, with thick black smoke billowing out of two of its windows.

Surveillance footage that emerged online shortly after the incident shows an unknown projectile, appearing to be a delta wing-patterned kamikaze drone, rapidly approaching the building before exploding into a large fireball.

Nine people were injured in the Shevchenkovsky District, where the SBU building is located, after a drone came down in the area, according to Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko. Seven of them were hospitalized.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian media reported drone strikes on the Kiev airport of Zhulyany. According to Ukrainian MP Aleksey Goncharenko, the strike affected two Soviet-era Yak-40 passenger jets.

The long-dilapidated planes were not airworthy and had been sitting at the airport for decades.

The incident comes shortly after Zelensky issued a threat against civilian aviation operating in Russia.

“We want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, and everyone who still uses Russia’s key airports: Russian airspace is becoming completely unsafe,” the Ukrainian leader said in a video address on Tuesday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the remarks as a “declaration of state terrorism,” pledging to deliver an appropriate response if Kiev’s threats resulted in a tragedy.

Zelensky Orders ‘Tangible Response’ Against Russia After Drone Strikes SBU HQ in Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he has ordered the head of Ukraine’s SBU security service to carry out an “appropriate and tangible” response to a Russian drone strike against the agency’s headquarters in central Kyiv on Friday afternoon.

In a post on X, Zelensky wrote that a Russian drone took direct aim at the office of SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad.

Ukrainian media reported that Poklad was not in his office at the time of the attack, which took place at around 3:30 p.m. local time.

Heavy black smoke was seen rising in central Kyiv following the strike, which Ukraine’s foreign minister described as a major escalation of the war.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least seven people were injured in the attack.

Zelensky said he spoke with Poklad and instructed him to prepare a response that “mirrors” the Russian strike. “Our military will support this response,” the Ukrainian president wrote.

The Kremlin did not immediately comment on the attack.

Ukraine’s SBU is a vast and secretive agency responsible for ambitious operations deep inside Russia.

It is also widely seen as a leading player in a campaign of covert assassinations of senior Russian military officials and other figures blamed by Ukraine for carrying out war crimes.

The NIA made the claim before a Delhi court while seeking permission to interview US mercenary Matthew Aaron VanDyke and Ukrainian Kaminskyi Viktor inside Tihar Jail, where they are currently lodged. The agency's application was approved on August 31.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has told a Delhi court that seven foreign nationals, who were arrested in March in relation to carrying out terror activities, were involved in a drone attack on a civilian aircraft in Myanmar.

These men, six Ukrainians and American mercenary Matthew Aaron VanDyke, are currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

The federal agency made the big claim while seeking permission to interview Ukrainian national Kaminskyi Viktor and VanDyke inside the prison. Its application was approved on August 31.

According to the NIA application, the Centre received "credible information" indicating the involvement of certain Ukrainians and a US national in a drone attack on a civilian plane in Myanmar.

It said that as many as 14 Ukrainians had entered India on tourist visas on different dates and travelled by air to Assam's Guwahati. From there, they allegedly travelled to Mizoram without the mandatory Restricted Area Permit (RAP) or Protected Area Permit (PAP).

They subsequently entered Myanmar illegally to undergo pre-scheduled training in drone warfare, drone operations, assembly and jamming technology.

The training was intended for Myanmar-based Ethnic Armed Groups (EAGs) targeting the country's military junta, the federal agency claimed.

The NIA further told the court that scrutiny of data extracted from devices seized from the accused had revealed "incriminating information and facts" in the form of images, videos and voice samples.

It said that the material needs to be confronted by the arrested accused and corroborated with their statements as part of the investigation.

While accepting the NIA's application, the Delhi court said that there was no specific law or judgment preventing it from allowing the NIA to conduct the interrogation, adding that courts ordinarily should not interfere with an ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the defence's side objected, saying the NIA's decision to seek interrogation at this stage was not unsupported by legal or factual reasoning.

WHAT IS THE CASE?

In March, the NIA arrested the seven foreign nationals from three airports across three cities. VanDyke was arrested from Kolkata, and three Ukrainians were held from Lucknow and Delhi each.

The NIA claimed that VanDyke and the Ukrainians contacted EAGs and engaged in training activities. The agency further alleged that these EAGs were linked to insurgent organisations in the Northeast.

Recently, VanDyke grabbed headlines after approaching a Delhi court seeking permission to prepare his own meals inside Tihar. He argued that he was unable to eat for more than a month because of the prison's spicy and oily food.

He sought permission to follow a 'American-style diet' comprising pasta, toned milk, olive oil, red meat, chicken and fish (including shrimps), among others.

USNORTHCOM Operational Update: Cartel Drone Defeats at the Southern Border

FORT BLISS, Texas — Joint Task Force–Southern Border (JTF-SB), operating under U.S. Northern Command in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, continues to defeat unauthorized unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Army Multipurpose High-Energy Laser (AMP-HEL) system was first employed in border protection operations on Aug. 24 and as of Sep. 4, JTF-SB service members defeated 11 cartel-linked UAS using AMP-HEL.

JTF-SB defeated more than 300 UAS this calendar year employing kinetic and non-kinetic systems, with more than 100 defeats occurring in the month of August.

“JTF Southern Border’s combined arms approach and fusion with mission partners is delivering a new layer of homeland defense capability to counter illegal activity on the border,” said Gen. Gregory Guillot, commander of NORAD and USNORTHCOM.

“Frontline troops have the right authorities and are leveraging a highly capable network to thwart threats to the forces conducting the territorial integrity mission.”

The UAS were assessed to be associated with illicit activity along the border. Transnational criminal organizations use UAS to support illegal cross-border activity, including smuggling operations and surveillance of law-enforcement and military personnel.

The Army acquired the AMP-HEL system in September 2025 as part of an effort to develop and field scalable directed-energy capabilities against UAS and other aerial threats.

JTF-SB integrated the mobile directed-energy system into its layered defense in August 2026 to help counter threats to personnel and support border-security operations.

The system’s employment demonstrates JTF-SB’s ability to integrate emerging capabilities into ongoing operations and adapt to evolving threats. More than 8,000 service members are deployed with JTF-SB across terrain spanning approximately 1,954 miles of the southern border.

Since assuming the mission in March 2025, JTF-SB personnel have reinforced hundreds of miles of the border with wire obstacles; conducted tens of thousands of detection and monitoring patrols, including patrols conducted in coordination with Mexican military personnel; executed thousands of observation flights; and cleared vegetation in remote areas.

These efforts have enhanced CBP situational awareness, improved response times, and supported efforts to disrupt illicit cross-border activity.

2 Huntsville women among 3 charged after drugs, drone found near Donaldson prison

Two Huntsville women and a Montgomery man face charges after Alabama Department of Corrections agents found drugs and other contraband during a traffic stop near Donaldson Correctional Facility, according to ADOC.

The stop happened Thursday, when ADOC Narcotics agents and K-9 handlers were patrolling the area surrounding the facility.

Agents conducted what ADOC described as a probable-cause traffic stop. A K-9 alerted on the vehicle, and agents searched it, according to authorities.

Agents recovered a taped package containing approximately 15.90 grams of Hydrocodone tablets and 454 grams, or 1 pound, of marijuana. The package also contained a DJI Mavic 3 drone, two cell phones, wireless air pods and charging cords.

The three suspects were transported to the Jefferson County (Bessemer) Jail for processing.

On June 30, O’Neill appeared before the House Oversight Committee’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets at its hearing, Mind Control and Accountability:

Five days earlier, on June 25, O’Neill attended Disclosure Forum 2026, an all-day UAP event organized by the Disclosure Foundation in the Kennedy Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building.

The event brought together lawmakers, scientists and former national-security officials to discuss UAP transparency, congressional oversight and the implications of disclosure.

Participants included Senator Mike Rounds and Representatives Luna, Eric Burlison, André Carson and Suhas Subramanyam, alongside former senior congressional staffer Kirk McConnell and former Pentagon intelligence official Christopher Mellon.

O’Neill said he had not travelled to Washington because of any particular expertise on UAP, but had accepted an invitation to attend the forum before beginning preparations for his MKULTRA appearance.

During the event, O’Neill said he left to attend a private preparation meeting with Democratic minority staff ahead of the MKULTRA hearing.

Because Republicans controlled the task force and had called the hearing, O’Neill said the Democratic staff wanted to know in advance what he intended to tell lawmakers.

According to O’Neill, the congressional staffer escorting him to that meeting already knew where he had been. “You’re coming from the disclosure conference, right?” O’Neill recalled the staffer asking.

When O’Neill asked how he knew, the staffer allegedly replied: “We all work together. We know everything that’s going on.”

The conversation then turned to UAP. O’Neill told the staffer that he remained agnostic and deliberately avoided becoming immersed in the subject because of the demands of his own investigations.

The response, according to O’Neill, was shocking.

“If you knew what we knew,” the staffer allegedly told him, “you wouldn’t be agnostic.”

O’Neill said the individual explained that, as a senior congressional staffer, he accompanied the lawmaker he worked for into SCIFs - Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities - secure locations used for the discussion and review of highly classified information.

According to O’Neill, the staffer told him: “I go in, and I see what they see, and it’s terrifying.”

O’Neill then asked why government-released UAP imagery remained limited or indistinct despite growing demands for disclosure.

He said the staffer responded that the government could not reveal everything because some information related directly to capabilities being developed for national defense.

O’Neill recalled the staffer saying that the United States possessed “recovered crafts and recovered beings,” and claimed knowledge obtained from recovered technology was being used to understand capabilities conventional human-made aircraft could not reproduce.

O’Neill paraphrased the argument as being that revealing detailed information about matters such as UAP velocity, propulsion or other unusual performance characteristics could expose technology being developed for U.S. military applications to adversaries.

O’Neill also described another striking detail from his meeting with the Democratic staff.

He said the same individual told him that exposure to classified information could be psychologically disturbing, claiming that congressional personnel who entered SCIFs sometimes experienced nightmares because of what they learned.

The Democratic staffers, according to O’Neill, were later present at the MKULTRA hearing itself. However, none of the task force’s five Democratic members - Ranking Member Jasmine Crockett, Stephen Lynch, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Summer Lee or Dave Min - ultimately attended.

Liberation Times previously reported in 2023 that Senate Intelligence Committee members had heard whistleblower testimony about hidden legacy UAP programs which, according to multiple sources, had been verified to some extent.

Sources also told Liberation Times in 2022 that classified UAP briefings and videos had “altered the lives of those involved.”

O’Neill’s account adds a striking new dimension to that reporting.

During his interview with Gold, he said the congressional staffer told him that personnel exposed to classified information in SCIFs could suffer nightmares, and claimed that staffers with such access had been provided with psychological support to help them cope with what they had learned.

O’Neill’s account also comes amid renewed speculation that President Donald Trump could eventually go further and publicly acknowledge the existence of non-human intelligence.

The speculation follows an unprecedented White House-led UAP disclosure initiative, which has seen government records, videos and other materials released across five tranches since May.

Speaking to Sky News this week, barrister Jonathan Caplan KC, who has extensively researched the subject and developed a substantial network of sources, said:

“The debate now is no longer whether this is a real phenomenon or not - in Washington, it’s an open secret that it is. The debate now is trying to force disclosure, because Congress has been misled for 80 years…”

In his book Not for Disclosure, Caplan alleges that a small number of members of the Senate Intelligence Committee have been briefed, on a highly restricted basis, about the recovery of UAP craft.

He further claims that some members of the House Intelligence Committee’s CIA Subcommittee have also been given access to the same information.

Why 250 British officers finally spoke about ‘close encounters’ | Reality Check

In this episode of “Reality Check,” Ross Coulthart sits down with inspector Roy Teague, a serving West Midlands Police tactical firearms commander whose new book, “Close Encounters of the Police Kind,” collects unidentified aerial phenomenon encounters from about 250 British police officers.

Teague explains how a 2016 documentary on UAP over American missile fields led him to ask which witnesses the public would find hardest to dismiss and why he concluded the answer was serving police.

The conversation works through his strongest cases, among them a metropolitan police helicopter crew and an Army warrant officer who watched a dart-shaped aircraft over central London accelerate away and disappear into an opening in the sky in July 1997; an off-duty constable who lost two and a half hours on the A14 with his wife, his children and the family dog; and a Grampian officer whose MRI shows a small metallic object behind his right eye.

Teague also details the pressure that follows these sightings, from a colleague grounded and quietly debriefed by the RAF at a private address in Croydon, to the senior officers who advised him to pick another subject to write about.

Of the officers who came to him, all but nine agreed to be named and Teague argues the ridicule attached to this subject is exactly why so few of these accounts have ever surfaced.
